Fantastic tutorial Robin. I work in Visual Merchandise training and will thoroughly enjoy taking student through this exercise. This is one of the best video tutes I've encountered. Thank you
Way to go. This tutorial is still worth viewing even if you have the new version with pattern maker because it just helps me understand better how things work. Thanks. Update: I finally tested everything out on CS6 and it all works. I'm particularly excited about the ability to change colors of my patterns. Now I can adapt my patterns to the specific projects I'm doing. Thanks again for your wonderful tutorial.
Hi Robin. Thanks for your Tutorial,it is very clear and easy to follow. How ever after I've allign the swatch, select it, right click, arrange and then send to back, my swatch is only the fill color and I can not see the circle pattren I created. I work in sc5
Hi Robin, thank you for this GREAT tutorial! QUESTION: At 7:44 the video "jumps" just as you are showing adding the "color chips" next to the pattern. I haven't figured out how you did that. Can you explain, please? I'm not speaking of making a color group from the selected object(s), but rather, the color group's "chips" that you aligned to the right of the pattern.
+David R. Purnell The colors are in the swatch panel. Make the color chips yourself with the rectangle tool. Add the colors to your color chips from the swatch panel.
Hi, your video is great, thank you, how do you save your recolored swatches on the swatches panel? You drag out a rectangle, fill it with a pattern, recolor it and then save it like a new pattern swatch? Is that possible to save a pattern filled rectangle like a pattern swatch?
Thanks Robyn, this is a great tutorial. i am having an issue when I make the square over the existing swatch. I followed all of the directions. I copied the swatch square sent it to back and made sure there was no stroke or fill. When i try to fill a rectangle with the pattern, I still white lines through it...it does not repeat. I can't figure out why...help, PLEASE!
Never mind, I figured it out. If anyone else has this problem fyi. make sure the square you copied and sent to back is perfectly aligned with the original swatch square. Mine was a tiny bit off, so the pattern would not repeat.
hey , very nice. however I have noticed that when patterns are saved on AI and its updated- because there are new version all the time ,that all the patterns get erased and lost. how can we store them (I guess on a usb) for safe keeping. Thanks. Have a great day. Very good information.
Hi GG- I just tried opening a couple of pattern files I had from 2015, I'm pretty sure it was version CS6 and I had no problem opening them in the most current version. Pattern save with the file you created them in, unlike Photoshop where the pattern saves with the program and not the file. Try opening some old files - I bet the patterns are still there. :0)
how can I create a new pattern using already existing pattern???? does anyone knows? eg I want to use this pattern in the letters love and then I want to create a repeatable pattern with this new word 'love' .....ai doesn't allow me to do that .....
