I’m leaving a church currently because of many different issues and I only just realised that this is one of them. The pastor keeps going on about “spiritual formation” and giving us small group homework but I just find it so boring. My husband and I have been spiritually starving at that church because they don’t teach the word.

If you have read any of Dallas Willard's books you know that his use of the term spiritual formation has nothing to do with the "emptying the mind" techniques. He is one of the most Christ-centered and Bible- centered teachers the church has.

Dallas Willard destroyed a church through contemplative prayer near my home in Long Beach. Facts: In the silence... the demonic moves... contemplative prayer is a pagan prayer practice... and since pagans worship demons... the mystical experiences one has while engaging in contemplative prayer is demonic. If you do what pagans do... you get what pagans get. 1 Timothy 4:1 is applied to contemplative prayer. Ray Yungen did a great job explaining this in his book, A Time of Departing. Be careful not to do any of what Contemplatives do... do not empty your mind, say mantras or repetitive Scriptures to still the mind, do not sit in the silence attempting to hear God's voice. Be biblical in your prayer life.

There is a lack of understanding on Dallas Willard's teachings. Meditation has been part of the life of all spirituality.
      Your ignorance is appalling

Strange the N T has no teaching on such a practice. Trace it tight back and you will end up with Hindu and 😅Buddha yeachings

My so called Christian university introduced the pagan prayer practice of Contemplative Prayer to me through a Spiritual Formation course. The goal was to shipwreck the faith of the participants. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. I thank God for the rescue. If one engages in pagan prayer practices they get what pagans get. Pagans worship demons. It was a 1 Timothy 4:1 situation.

Thank you so much for this teaching.
Sadly our Church has been heavily influenced and brainwashed by Richard Rohr and his rubbish.
The latest problem in our Church is Labyrinth walking. End times are upon us.
Thank you for your common sense Biblical approach.
    Shalom

    1 Cor 15:1-4 , Eph 1:7, 1 John 5:13
    Galations 2:19-21
Christ is my everything He is doing it not me forming something , Christ in every believer
Spiritual formation is not biblically sound,
    See Phillipians 3:9

Do you know why these folks always seem to talk about their “ dark night of the soul “
They all seemed proud , talk about their “ sacrificial life “ .
Seminaries are super dangerous - we have Christ and He is teaching us His Word we do not need their “ wisdom of men “ it is really sickening

You don't understand the teaching, obviously, because in no way does Dallas Willard practice and promote emptying your mind ! The teaching is to fill your mind by meditating on scripture and the teachings of Jesus.

Dallas Willard visited and destroyed a church near my home in Long Beach. Since it is such a spiritual matter, the Holy Spirit leads one into all truths. I was blessed to be led away from Spiritual Formation that my so called Christian university introduced to me. The mystical experiences promoted by Dallas Willard and other contemplatives was completely demonic. Thank God for discernment and God's mercy in rescuing me so that I didn't depart from the faith (1 Timothy 4:1). Thank you Jesus!

I am blessed to be a Holy Spirit filled believer and He led me into the truth about Contemplative Prayer. You should watch a video by Ray Yungen, his research is stellar and he explains why Contemplative Prayer is occultic. I thank God for rescuing me out of Contemplative Prayer... the silence does bring forth the demonic. God is correct and pagan prayer practices are unacceptable to a Holy God... so contemplative prayer is unacceptable.

Many deceptive teachings use the scriptures (even Satan did) and many use the name of Jesus, but when you ask for the Holy Spirit to help you discern you will find it is “another” Jesus and not The Lord Jesus Christ.

@@osawerepatrick921 Well, I have read Willard's work and many other contemplatives, as well as studied the origins of this pagan prayer practice and it is deeply demonic. Read 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 and 1 Timothy 4:1 ask God to help you understand these Scriptures and how they apply to contemplative prayer and contemplatives.
