Thanks for another great video, Ralph. I have much less experience in this, but I have found that 4th run of the week helpful in building mileage. For me, I would put that 4th run the day after my long run. 3 miles as easy as possible. I tried to run a pace I could sustain for the whole 3 miles. It was usually very slow. But I never felt badly, because the whole goal was just to get out moving after a long run the day before. It often was my favorite run of the week. Thanks again for these inspiring videos.
I have learned so much from you in the last few months. I’m not a runner per se. I’m a Master Trainer that incorporates running 3 days a week to maintain aerobic efficiency. I will continue to follow your training advice in the running department. TY so much. I really appreciate it and share your advice with my clients.✌️
I let my Garmin watch calculate VO2 max. Perhaps there is a manual way to calculate it, but I’ve not researched it. Determining your max heart rate is straightforward. See this video - A Better Way: Find your maximum heart rate th-cam.com/video/9KNrCzykSXY/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for watching the video and commenting!
Does garmin watch into account age, gender when recommending training schedules? Surely a65 year old wouldn’t do,the same training schedule as a younger runner even with good vo2 max, good sleep, etc. seems like they’re just going by past volume and the other things I mentioned
You do enter your age and gender into the Garmin Connect app, but since I don’t use the Garmin training plans, I don’t know if it uses that information in creating the plans. I suspect it might as it does take age and gender into account for VO2 max determination. You might contact Garmin for an answer.
Great analogy and advice, Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy running!

I was debating running today, after my long run. Off I go to do 3 miles. Thanks!

So are my long runs for time or distance?

It can be either, but I typically do distance.
