Actually I am really happy you did these analysis long ago which has aged well. I have always complained about our air force and tank armored units which are operating very obsolete equipment.
The AT 802 is a low cost/ maintenance equipment with very good sky loiter time, useful for recon & air support. Do not underestimate. The US is deploying the same, together with Super tukano in low intensity wars.
Actually the F-5 is sub-sonic. It is not even supersonic. That means that Ugandan jets can intercept our F-5s even before they depart the runway in Laikipia. Or in a dog fight the F-5 will not even be able to take a correct aim of the supersonic Sukhoi because of the massive disparities in speed and agility between the two. Incase of an intrusion at our international borders the modern jet will be fast enough to attack and escape even before our F-5s deploy or even locate the enemy fighter jet in the skies.
ET operates Su 27 and are preparing to receive Su 30. You should see how proud they are of their AirForce. Plus this year they had an Air Show, man Kenya we are so behind. Twas the most proud moment I witnessed for Ethiopians. Sisi all we are shown are flybys siku ya sherehe Plus with recent crashes they need to look both into maintenance and pilot training programs to see whats amiss. It’s just too frequent to be a one off event. Somethings seriously wrong in the background
Great informative video. By the way, Uganda's Su-30 are MK2s which were introduced in 2000. Basically they are modified versions of the 1992 Su-30s, which makes an even greater difference between Kenya and Uganda's air force.
Avoiding an arms race is healthy 4 the region. An airforce is the trump card 4 any military. But u highlight an important issue plaguing every sector in african countries no foresight on capacity building just short sighted stop gaps.
