Legendary 👍👍 My wife has recently gotten back into riding after a 30 year break. Planning on doing some outback adventures. We brought her a BMW G310GS, which we thought would be a great start. But, she has really struggled with the height and weight of the bike at stand still. Today, after discovering your "be the boss" series, and spending literally 1 hour practicing your drills.......She is a different rider !! So all the way from Brisbane, Australia. Thank you so much for these brilliant videos 🇦🇺😎👍👍 She still has work to do before we're ready for that first real adventure together. But you have given her the techniques, and more importantly, the confidence that she CAN handle this tall, heavy bike......... it won't be long now😃

I had a 310gs for a short time, it’s a fun bike, however the seat is so wide it tends to make the riders inseam shorter. It was easier for me to get a foot down on a standard height 1250gs haha. Hi Jocelin new sub here from Canada! I found your channel after viewing a NEBDR documentary which by the way I highly recommend to everyone!! I have truly enjoyed your riding tips series as I have recently purchased a dual sport bike. Keeping your feet on the pegs has a new meaning for me transitioning from a BOH (big ole Harley) with highway pegs to riding standing up!! The 35 inch seat height does present some difficulty for me with a 30 inch inseam but thanks to your tips and lots of balance drills I am feeling way more confident. At 65 I am having a blast riding in gravel that I used to fear, hitting the trails and looking for the "road less travelled". Thanks again!

Do you know why they rdrive on the left hand side of the road in UK ect? Beacuse of riding Horses and Jousting .. most riderw were right handed .. and carrie their sword in their right hand .. or their Javelin.. I guess it would be called..

@@JocelinSnow I just completed my first rally. I got my butt kicked, but absolutely loved it! I'm in Florida, so we have to contend with a lot of sand. I'm not doing too bad and feel like I'm getting good techniques (lots of videos on the subject), but once I fell it seems I can't get the falling down thing out of my head. It's a mental block I have to get past. Any thoughts? As for my wife, yeah she's really excited. I'll pass on your message to her. She'll be thrilled! Hey Mike! Congratulations on completing your first rally! It’s got to be an added challenge with the Florida heat and deep sand! My hat is off to you! Try NOT LOOKING down at the sand. DO NOT DO IT. Only keep your eyes up to the horizon. Loosen your grip on the bars and open up your knees (allowing the bike to wiggle without knocking you off balance). Always a positive throttle (try not to roll off, either steady or roll on) and no clutch, (unless of course you need to stop or slow to avoid something or someone). Breathe and don’t hold your breath. Let me know if any of that helps in the sand! Wishing you the best!

I'd been putting off the test ride for 3 years because I was afraid that if I wasn't able to handle the seat height, it'd be the end of a dream I've had since my teenage, but I finally went out to get the test ride today. Nearly dropped it at the dealership before I even launched it because I was nervous but then I remembered your video where you said, "it's not the boss of me" and went on a nice, long ride. Completely loved it and booked it as soon as I got off the bike. Thank you for being an inspiration to us short riders.

I enjoyed this video and the demonstration. I had no dowel to play along and the DIY markets are closed until monday. I resorted to a broom stick :). Outside the weather is nice and sunny. I´ll try that on the bike too. My usual grip is somewhere between screwdriver and hammer. I´ll work on biasing it more to the screwdriver side.

Hi from South Africa. Thank you for the tips. I am a shorty, 5'3 here. I bought a small bike that I can just tiptoe on and having a ball learning from riders such as yourself. I am currently saving up so I can do the CountryTrax course, the beginner one first, then on to the intermediate. I cannot wait. I bet that hammer grip demonstration felt really weird and uncomfortable ;-)

Thanks for going into detail on riding grips! Is this technique for trail/adventure riding? It seems like it would be an easily fatigued grip for everyday commute. 🤔 I so appreciate you putting material out! I'm trying to find more women riding channels to subscribe to since I'm a new rider.

Interesting concept .. You are standing with both grips.. Not sure if hammer VS Screwdriver makes a lot of sense to talk about.. The Dowel helps demonstrat what you are teaching.. In order to understand this one has to get on a bike and try it.. The other problme I see is how the bike fits.. Some bikes have funly handle bar postions.. suited for a tall rider with long arms.. I have a snowmobile that with my short arms had me on the gas tank not on the seat.. I added 4" risers rakced back almost 45 degrees.. Now I sit right where I need to be on the seat.. The riser takes much more strenght to steer the 10" wide dual keep skis.. This is a Yamaha Attack or Apex snowmobile with the heavy 4 stoke engine.. the newer models actually have electric power steering .. Which adds even more weight to the sled.. I plan to test your theories after the snow melts..
Thank you for your comment, and I understand your viewpoint, however this video is intended for larger adventure motorcycles, typically off road. I don’t think it would apply to snowmobiles or many other style bikes.
@@JocelinSnow Well I am short like you so I have the some issues with fit.. I have 2" risers for my Yamaha FZ-07 Street bike have not installed them yet.. A number of Motorcycles now have risers of handle bar clamps that can be mounted in different positions for differ height riders.. Some motorcyles have adjustable rear sets .. I call them foot pegs.. Also many versions of aftermanrket foot pegs that the location can be adjusted.. The Indian FTR-1200 had a 34" seat and very wide handle bars.. the 2022 models have narrower bars.. and smaller diameter wheels to get the seat height lower.. I was always used to wider bars on moto cross bikes and felt some what insecure on narrower bars on my Honda XR-350 .. My street bike has very narrow bars.. I think the newer modles now have wider bars.. I understand the point you are tryng to make with the dowel rods it's a good idea.. I could have been so much better at many sports if there would have been youtube when I was young.. Trap Shooting ect.. I am self taught at Mogul sking to a Pro level.. Was never real great at Slallom skiing.. Never had the oportunity to stand around on the hill all day for coaching.. Then I took a 5 day Maheir Clinic Rember Twins Steve and Phil Maher.. from you neck of the Woods Olympic and World Cup Skiers who also raced Motocorss..

hello! thank you for your comment, and for watching. I would say this is more for off road riding while standing on the pegs. the advice I would give to you as a new rider would be to grip lightly, relax and make sure you don’t hold your breath when the terrain gets challenging (tight turns too). be sore to loon far ahead and try to relax. The rest will come naturally. best of luck!
HELP WITH DECISION OF NEW BUKE PURCHASE PLEASE!! 🙏🙏… Okay, maybe some of you fellow commuter riders and off road, as often as possible, riders can help recommend some best options. I am 5’5 without riding boots and 130lb in 🥶 winter. I ride as long as there is no ice on the roads. My commute is 60-72 miles one way depending on routes and traffic. The cruising speed around my area is 75mph to 80mph at most. I don’t get stuck in stop and go traffic very often. 🙌👍 I also take longer road trips with my son as often as we can fit them in during the typical season, anywheres from 300-1500 miles and longer if possible. I am heavily considering the new Honda CB500X but I’m open to a used bike to stay in the same price point range. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated and thank you!! 🏍️🏍️👍👍 Happy riding everyone!
Get the bike that speaks to your heart and soul. You know you better than any stranger on the internet. Test ride as many bikes as you can at your local dealerships and leave with the one you can’t stop thinking about. 🤗

I am going to the dealers to at least sit and get a feel for the bikes on my list. I’m leaning toward a good commuter and possibly a separate off-road bike. I have always thought of many BMW riders as BMW snobs.. of course Harley Davidson Riders are Harley snobs.. I have always made fun of Harley Davidsons because they were not desinged for performace riding or even for safe riding for that matter.. You can't grip the gas tank of a Harley with your knees or thighs they just are not thought out .. Like BMW and most other brands.. Now suddenly Harley Davidson comes out with an Adventure Touring bike.. It has a competative weight , Price and Performance.. It is well desinged egronomically .. and it even has an Industry first Option called Active ride height control . No matter how skilled of a rider you are .. It's a pain at low speeds and stopping on a bike with a tall seat when you have short legs.. especially with all your lugging for ravelling and camping.. I don't see many BMW snobs going out and buying a Harley Davidson Pan America, but it will be interesting to see how many new Pan American Riders will be getting into advenure bike riding.. Just like BMW HD will offer all the riding gear and lugage you need.. There was 770 HD delaers in the USA 70 dealers closed in 2020.. So that many dealers are going to give a lot of exposeure to Adventure bike riding..
Thanks for watching and you certainly have an interesting point of view and I can understand it. I too, am curious how the PanA will do. Although I favor the BMW, I also have KTM, Honda, Yamaha, and other bikes... so I guess that makes me a multi-manufacturer snob. 😆
@@JocelinSnow I know calling them Snobs sounds Harsh .. but I think you might understand what I am saying.. Sure you might meet the nicest people on BMW's maybe it the Street Touring riders that can be snobs.. My Neighbor always rode BMW' street bikes since the 1950's... In past years Many Harley riders wouldn't even speak to bikers who owned other brands.. The Popularity of riding Motorcycles is falling off.. Younger People don't own Motorcycles as much anymore in the Snow Belt.. In FL and CA though bikes are still more popular as they can be ridden all year.. Now with so many fewer bikers Harley Davidson riders have mellowed and now are often nice to other bikers.. I met a cute biker gal at a biker event but all the other Bikers in her Club were afraid I was an undercover Cop because I wasn't wearing all Leather.. It rained all day and was really cold .. So I wore insulated water proof riding clothes.. I raced Motocross in the mid to late 1970's I raced in the Red Bud Pro Track .. I loved that Track .. the only thing they have changed is they added huge Double and Triple Jumps .. if you happen to case one you could end up in a wheel chair.. I changed sports to Mogul Sking as I thought landing on snow was a lot safer than crashing on the dirt.. and I thought road racing was crazy too l.. but with the proper geat on a track it does not look as dangerous as I thought it was.. Now says you can learn how to do almost anything on TH-cam.. I thought you have some Sponship from BMW ? For me the Yamaha Tenere 700 suits my needs the best for half the price of a Halrey or BMW.. Sure the extra Horsepower would be fun on the Highway .. If it was not for the fact I can't afford to get speeding tickdets do to my Commercail drivers License..

Hi from South Africa. Thank you for the tips. I am a shorty, 5'3 here. I bought a small bike that I can just tiptoe on and having a ball learning from riders such as yourself. I am currently saving up so I can do the CountryTrax course, the beginner one first, then on to the intermediate. I cannot wait. I bet that hammer grip demonstration felt really weird and uncomfortable ;-)

Interesting concept .. You are standing with both grips.. Not sure if hammer VS Screwdriver makes a lot of sense to talk about.. The Dowel helps demonstrat what you are teaching.. In order to understand this one has to get on a bike and try it..
The other problme I see is how the bike fits.. Some bikes have funly handle bar postions.. suited for a tall rider with long arms.. I have a snowmobile that with my short arms had me on the gas tank not on the seat.. I added 4" risers rakced back almost 45 degrees.. Now I sit right where I need to be on the seat.. The riser takes much more strenght to steer the 10" wide dual keep skis.. This is a Yamaha Attack or Apex snowmobile with the heavy 4 stoke engine.. the newer models actually have electric power steering .. Which adds even more weight to the sled..
I plan to test your theories after the snow melts..
Thank you for your comment, and I understand your viewpoint, however this video is intended for larger adventure motorcycles, typically off road. I don’t think it would apply to snowmobiles or many other style bikes.

I have 2" risers for my Yamaha FZ-07 Street bike have not installed them yet..
A number of Motorcycles now have risers of handle bar clamps that can be mounted in different positions for differ height riders..
Some motorcyles have adjustable rear sets .. I call them foot pegs.. Also many versions of aftermanrket foot pegs that the location can be adjusted..
The Indian FTR-1200 had a 34" seat and very wide handle bars.. the 2022 models have narrower bars.. and smaller diameter wheels to get the seat height lower..
I was always used to wider bars on moto cross bikes and felt some what insecure on narrower bars on my Honda XR-350 .. My street bike has very narrow bars.. I think the newer modles now have wider bars..
I understand the point you are tryng to make with the dowel rods it's a good idea..
I could have been so much better at many sports if there would have been youtube when I was young..
Trap Shooting ect.. I am self taught at Mogul sking to a Pro level.. Was never real great at Slallom skiing.. Never had the oportunity to stand around on the hill all day for coaching..
Then I took a 5 day Maheir Clinic Rember Twins Steve and Phil Maher.. from you neck of the Woods Olympic and World Cup Skiers who also raced Motocorss..

hello! thank you for your comment, and for watching. I would say this is more for off road riding while standing on the pegs. the advice I would give to you as a new rider would be to grip lightly, relax and make sure you don’t hold your breath when the terrain gets challenging (tight turns too). be sore to loon far ahead and try to relax. The rest will come naturally. best of luck!

Okay, maybe some of you fellow commuter riders and off road, as often as possible, riders can help recommend some best options. I am 5’5 without riding boots and 130lb in 🥶 winter. I ride as long as there is no ice on the roads. My commute is 60-72 miles one way depending on routes and traffic. The cruising speed around my area is 75mph to 80mph at most. I don’t get stuck in stop and go traffic very often. 🙌👍 I also take longer road trips with my son as often as we can fit them in during the typical season, anywheres from 300-1500 miles and longer if possible. I am heavily considering the new Honda CB500X but I’m open to a used bike to stay in the same price point range. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated and thank you!! 🏍️🏍️👍👍 Happy riding everyone!
Get the bike that speaks to your heart and soul. You know you better than any stranger on the internet. Test ride as many bikes as you can at your local dealerships and leave with the one you can’t stop thinking about.

I am going to the dealers to at least sit and get a feel for the bikes on my list. I’m leaning toward a good commuter and possibly a separate off-road bike. My commute is so long it may be the better option for me. Thanks again and if I can get out to train on a bigger bike at your place, it would be awesome!! It’s on my list!

I have always thought of many BMW riders as BMW snobs.. of course Harley Davidson Riders are Harley snobs.. I have always made fun of Harley Davidsons because they were not desinged for performace riding or even for safe riding for that matter.. You can't grip the gas tank of a Harley with your knees or thighs they just are not thought out .. Like BMW and most other brands..
Now suddenly Harley Davidson comes out with an Adventure Touring bike.. It has a competative weight , Price and Performance.. It is well desinged egronomically .. and it even has an Industry first Option called Active ride height control . No matter how skilled of a rider you are .. It's a pain at low speeds and stopping on a bike with a tall seat when you have short legs.. especially with all your lugging for ravelling and camping..
I don't see many BMW snobs going out and buying a Harley Davidson Pan America, but it will be interesting to see how many new Pan American Riders will be getting into advenure bike riding.. Just like BMW HD will offer all the riding gear and lugage you need.. There was 770 HD delaers in the USA 70 dealers closed in 2020.. So that many dealers are going to give a lot of exposeure to Adventure bike riding..

@@JocelinSnow I know calling them Snobs sounds Harsh .. but I think you might understand what I am saying.. Sure you might meet the nicest people on BMW's maybe it the Street Touring riders that can be snobs.. My Neighbor always rode BMW' street bikes since the 1950's...
In past years Many Harley riders wouldn't even speak to bikers who owned other brands.. The Popularity of riding Motorcycles is falling off.. Younger People don't own Motorcycles as much anymore in the Snow Belt.. In FL and CA though bikes are still more popular as they can be ridden all year..
Now with so many fewer bikers Harley Davidson riders have mellowed and now are often nice to other bikers.. I met a cute biker gal at a biker event but all the other Bikers in her Club were afraid I was an undercover Cop because I wasn't wearing all Leather.. It rained all day and was really cold .. So I wore insulated water proof riding clothes..
I raced Motocross in the mid to late 1970's I raced in the Red Bud Pro Track .. I loved that Track .. the only thing they have changed is they added huge Double and Triple Jumps .. if you happen to case one you could end up in a wheel chair..
I changed sports to Mogul Sking as I thought landing on snow was a lot safer than crashing on the dirt.. and I thought road racing was crazy too l.. but with the proper geat on a track it does not look as dangerous as I thought it was.. Now says you can learn how to do almost anything on TH-cam..

For me the Yamaha Tenere 700 suits my needs the best for half the price of a Halrey or BMW.. Sure the extra Horsepower would be fun on the Highway .. If it was not for the fact I can't afford to get speeding tickdets do to my Commercail drivers License..
