    If you're having problems with dragons try a fortify marksman potion.
    The ingredients are
    1 Juniper berries
    2 canis root
    3 elves ear
    4 spider egg
    Any 2 mixed will work.

    It's probably been said, but the Imperial Bow is upgraded with Steel, making it a Steel Bow. I don't know exactly what your definition of a "real" bow entails, but if you properly upgrade a Hunting Bow with leather strips and put a nice Greater fire enchantment (10 pts.) on it, it can get you by until about level 18 with ease. However, if you just have to have a "real" bow, there's an Elven Bow in a case in the Companions' Mead Hall under an expert lock that you can go straight to. It's in the room where you first meet Skjor after you give Aela her shield. There's also a Moonstone node by the south wall of Whiterun, almost to the broken pillar with the chest on it. It's down on the flat, closer to the road to Valtheim. It gives it a nice little boost, even at level two. I really need a hobby, or a friend, or a goldfish. Hold me.

    • @Wariyaka
      @Wariyaka 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Imperial Bow does not benefit from the Smith Steel perk even though it uses steal for upgrades, however, Ancient Nord bows and Forsworn bows do benefit from the perk and I'm pretty sure Hunting Bows do too even if they use leather strips to upgrade.
      At time he did this video though it quite possible there where no bows benefiting from the steel perk at all and there are still no bows in the game that can be crafted by the player with only the steel perk.

    • @stankfanger1366
      @stankfanger1366 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wariyaka I guess the Imperial Bow just upgrades based on your overall smithing skill then, if the perk doesn't affect it, because I know I've taken them to Epic and Legendary before. I can confirm that the Hunting Bow also upgrades to multiple levels.

    • @Wariyaka
      @Wariyaka 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Young Frankenstein Yes, I don't think the smith perks raise any caps on how high you can boost the gear just the rate at witch you do it. With strong enough smithing skill, enchantment boosts and alchemy potions you can still upgrade stuff to über-legendary without the relevant perk, it just take a bit more effort from the other boost avenues. For full playthroughs on legendary difficulty I would recommend getting at least the steel and arcane smithing perks almost regardless of build though some purer mage builds can probably do just fine without them too.

    They changed the archery damage formula to include the damage from the arrows additively with the base damage from the bow before any multipliers. The exact formula is on the wikis if people are interested. But what that means is that higher damage arrows are more significant now than they were before.

    Archery tips from a relative n00b (on XBox360):
    1. If you want to cap damage to arrows, your effective range of damage is *zero* arrow bonus all the way up to Dragonbone. Zero-damage arrows (practice arrows) are available for free at Angi's, on the mountain directly above and slightly southwest of Falkreath.
    2. You can recover some arrows without the 'take' command, if an enemy has hit you with them. They are automatically added to your inventory. If you can withstand a few hits, it amounts to 'catching' them. This might be effective in upgrading your damage a few points if your enemy is using superior arrows.
    3. If enemies are facing you, but unaware of your presence due to sneaking, shoot the back ranks first. This will often induce enemies to turn their backs to you and increase their distance from you, increasing the duration of your effective sneaking. It may only buy you an extra second or so, but when outnumbered, that can matter.
    4. The video above doesn't mention the use of poisoned weapons, especially bows. I tend to favor Ravage Health poisons for particularly healthy enemies on the first shot. It's sometimes the difference between killing and dying. I've also found uses for Slow and Paralyze poisons which don't eat up magicka or soul gem recharges on enchanted weapons.

    • @dominiccampbell181
      @dominiccampbell181 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noted this above, but your fourth point goes well with one I use myself. I used imp stool, canis root, and deathbell to make a poison, and it created a paralysis poison that also does health damage.

  • @tarrker

    Archery actually kinda sucks against dragons. At least, that's been my experience. You can fight them face to face but they'll demolish you with their magic, breath and that instant kill grab they sometimes use. But if you stay back, try to stealth and keep your distance most of the time they'll just fly around and be impossible to hit. Or they'll simply fly away altogether not even giving you the chance to even fight them. There is nothing more frustrating than wasting thirty of your best arrows on a dragon only to have them take off and fly right off into the sunset.

    • @mwjd8112
      @mwjd8112 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      haven't you heard from him what critical strikes actually do in skyrim? they just increase 2x the BASE damage of the weapon that u crit with, f.ex. when u crit with weapon that has 12 dmg base but its legendary ubgraded to 100, you will only deal 2x the dmg of base value so 12 dmg x 2, and this 100 was the damage from legendary ubgrade + the base value, that means while u crit strike with that weapon you will only deal 112 dmg instead of 100

    One weird thing about the bull's eye perk is that it appears to trigger when the arrow is released rather than when it hits. I have missed plenty of long shots with an archer build because my target was paralysed and fell to the ground before the arrow reached them. I don't know if this was because I was using a bound bow or if it's just the game being weird.

      thats why I prefer going alchemy, not only does it give you shit tons of gold but it also gives extremely useful and powerful potions and poisons, I can make a 24 second long Paralysis poison with just canis root and Imp stool which cost less than 50 gold I believe, plus I can also make a drain health poison which my best one dioes 25 hp dmg per second for 10 seconds. alchmey can be super crazy and super useful, my only ussie with the Paralysis Poison is that it doesnt work on draugr, not like the Bulls Eye perk at least.

    Best way to get a super powerful bow to use against dragons or whatever.
    Enchant a helmet, gloves, ring and necklace with fortfiy archery.
    Use fortify smithing gear for making all your armor and weapons.
    Use a fortify smithing for making and upgrading bows.
    Enchant the bow with extra damage
    Drink a fortify marksman potion just before combat.
    Poison the bow with a potion.

    Just to note, after Patch 1.5, when kill cams were introduced to magical attacks and bow attacks, there is a glitch in the archery kill cam when Bullseye is enabled. When the shot would kill in one hit, the target is paralyzed before the arrow impacts, paralyzing the target and effectively enabling the target to dodge the arrow.

    When opponent gets close to you, you can use the shout become ethereal to charge your bow up. Pulling the string of your bow doesn't count as attack so it won't disable the shout. Utilitize this against dragons when they try to use fire or frost breath on you.
    If you have lots of room to maneuver around your enemy but they caught you, use the shout fus ro dah or whirlwind sprint to get away from them. Typically useful against many opponents at once.
    Hope this helps even after 8 years of skyrim release tho.

PMS00 is recording with the pre-Legendary version of Skyrim, so his videos are from the perspective of someone who wants to maximize their perks allotment since they were more precious before you can re-spec a skill and re-assign your perks.

On top of the smithing to make the bow, you also get the experience from enchanting and alchemy, and it's a good boost to damage for until you have the perks/skills to use bows more effectively. Juniper berries have the weakness to fire ingredient thing, as do bleeding crowns, which are both easy to find and pretty cheap if you can't. Ice wraith teeth as well, if you find any.
    On that alchemy note, it's actually a really good way to earn money fast, especially with the merchant perk. You can take two ingredients that are less than 10 septims each to buy, add another that's still under 20, and you can sell that potion for a huge recovery. I tend to make ones that sell for between 150 and 400 apiece, with some being able to be up to 500 or more, all with ingredients that were less than 40 each to buy, if I used three "expensive" ones, which is rare. Plus there are tons of stuff you can just find.

    So I'm going to be playing the shit out of skyrim remastered and I will be playing the entire game to perfection and plan on going with the light armor. sneak, archery orc build. (the orc is just due to berserk for 15x sneak damage when stacked) is this a good choice?

      Yea its fine if your going for a pure archer.Do note on difficulties like Legendary(which should always be your goal as game is too easy) Archery is slightly impractical and is the 2nd worst offensive skill to rely on next to Destruction magic being the worst, and if your using a stealth build getting a follower is also impractical because they pretty much take away your stealth even if they are stealth based themselves, but without a follower unless your very skilled and experienced you will struggle horribly because your arrows will just tickle your enemies and they will kill you in one hit, so if you wanna focus on stealth remember always assault on the night, just keep clearing drougr places or even Falmer if you can manage, turn into a vampire for added stealth as you can always remove it, finally get good gear, I have played full runs of Archery only on Legendary and it can be loads of fun if you know how to use it but compared to other routes it is one of the worst.Best ones are Breton Battlemages that use a mixture of conjuration, followers, sword and shield and duel wielding Orcs that use tanky followers and/or stealth.

      100% cost reduction + Impact makes the game boringly easy with Destruction.
      It's not at all limited to end game; it's very easy to grind craft skills at relatively low level. The fact that crafting was so ridiculously overpowered was a massive design flaw: it trivialised the game if you used those skills (even just within the normal limits, without abusing feedback loops), but they were so useful that avoiding them was not much fun.

    Here's something:
    The way that the ai in this game aims with their own bows is based on your movement speed and direction at the moment they fire. You can actually use bows to dodge arrows sometimes before you even get the Ranger perk. Hold your arrow until they fire, move to the side while you're holding it, and then fire as soon as they fire, and you can actually manage to dodge a surprising amount of the time. Makes dealing with other archers easier early on. Of course, with ranger and such, this is replaced with a better option. Still a nice way to exploit a supposed disadvantage to move speed and turning it into a strength.

    Nice to see my experience as an OP stealth archer is backed up by the numbers. Nothing like popping off a 3x damage shot to the face and then patiently waiting to make sure I'm not discovered. "Must've been the wind." Sir, a lot of your hp is missing and you have an arrow sticking out of your face. The wind must be a pretty deadly phenomenon in skyrim if it can launch arrows into your face.

    I'd just like to point out that the Hunting Bow benefits from the Steel Smithing perk, meaning although you can't smith your own, you can still have a decent starting light bow that scales with the rest of your equipment. It even ends up being a good bow for mid-range combat purposes due to the quick draw speed, with DPS comparable to a Glass Bow (though with nowhere near as good range, so no sniping with it).

    One good way to sneak is to have the increased mobility, and the slow time perk, when raiding caves or dungeons coupled with throw voice, which all 3 words can be found at shearpoint in the video, you can lure out any bandit and have him dead in the blink of an eye, and if your position is compromised, you can quickly take them out without being seen, its a great build for me, but if it works for you, then great.

  • @Mr._Anderpson

    You can use a potion immediately after you fire your arrow, before it streaks to the target. This is useful if you want to strike from concealment, quaff a potion of brief invisibility, and remain undetected when the arrow lands. It may not sound like a big deal, but if you're trying to assassinate someone in a crowd without a bounty, it can make all the difference.
    If you don't want to waste an arrow to distract an enemy, cast magelight where you want them to go. You need silent casting from the Illusion tree, but it is one of the best perks if you play any stealthy build. Enemy NPCs will follow the ball of light to its destination & as a bonus, they are illuminated, giving you a perfect target for your next strike. Oddly, this works on the Falmer, who are blind.

    I have a little bit of advice for those people who sneak while drawing their bow or have terrible armor rating and can get two-shot or are bad at stealth but need it. I've learned that using your climbing skills (or horse glitch) you can scale mountains or buildings and get to a place where enemies cannot get you. Well, maybe except dragons or ranged enemies. You can shoot enemies while taking almost no damage unless the enemies uses ranged tactics, but you can dodge most with the Ranger perk.

    If you wann get an Elven bow relatively early in the game go to the Companion's building in Whiterun (or fast-travel to Dragonsreach and look for the dome shaped building on the left) go to the basement and find a display case in the huntress's room. It's lock is Expert so I would suggest bringing alot of picks along.

    You have to use soul gems to recharge the weapon's enchantments. Soul gems can be found all over Skyrim, and you have to fill it with a soul by killing a creature. There are weapons/spells that allow you to capture a soul when you kill an enemy, such as the Soul Trap spell. If you're playing on the Xbox, you can recharge your weapon by going to it in your inventory and pressing RB.

    One thing that will help is a powerful paralyzing enchantment for crowds e,g. two enemies are running full speed at you, shoot one and they will be down for let's say five seconds, that gives you the opportunity to take out or at least damage the other enemy, possibly paralyzing them both so you can keep your distance or have a small window to think about your next action.

You can buy skill upgrades from him, then trade with him and he'll give you your money back. Free upgrade up to level 50!! Note, you should start at a low level because you can only pay for 5 upgrades per overall level. Hope this helps low end characters!!

    I found the best way to aim bows in Skyrim was to use the top and bottom sections of the crosshair (Harder to aim while sneaking but not so hard with some practice and experience). For close range shots, I used the top arrow of the crosshair, putting my desired target right above the tick (I.E. their head). For longer range shots I would use the bottom arrow of the crosshair. I'm not sure if it was intentional by bethesda, but the top and bottom arrows of the crosshair are really good indicators of the bow's arc. I was a little disappointed that you didn't cover this technique as it is quite commonly used by players.

    I noticed that too, if you miss your intended target but the arrow strikes a surface close enough it's almost like a small area of effect. I wish I hadn't taken this perk though because with the sneak perk I was one shotting most enemies all the time but now when the paralyze activates it stuns the target but doesn't do any physical damage, this can be problematic as its can activate multiple times, and also a stunned enemy draws attention much more than if they are just executed straight away

    Thanks for the tips:
    I have both my Archery and Sneak at Legendary... combining that with a full Slow Time-Shout and alteration potions or True shot, plus all my gear and jewelry adding more Bow strength... I'm doing fairly well for a level 57. Ancient dragons take me about 10-15 ebony arrows on Expert gameplay. Favorite weapon is Ebony bow of exhaustion (74 damage) which takes away 30% of the enemy's stamina. I usually can take out a giant with 3-5 Elven arrows on expert. I pretty much went this way with my character build without any help from the youtube community, looking back I'm glad too see I made the right decisions being new to Skyrim. I'm now working on Speech and Smithing I need to get Deadric arrows, my highest damage output arrow is Stahlrim but I don't know where to farm it, so I'm either smithing Elven arrows and buying Ebony, for animals (wolfs, bears, etc) I'll use orc or steal.

    When it comes to sneaking with a bow, since it isn't a silent weapon and if you hit an enemy they will know the direction of the shot, it is good to move forward to shoot them then back into the shadows. The AI does not seem to run past the area that you fired the arrow.

    im fairly sure the bound bow does in fact take effects from overdraw, I use the bound bow and my damage has been steadily increasing with the overdraw perk, not too mention getting your conjuration up allows for summons, which combined with companions give you a small army to act as a meat shield and distract your enemies. if you get the thrall skills in master conjuration you can potentially have a group of 4 npcs with you, but this does include barbas which I didn't finish quest so hes with me

    This is the real archery skill for me in Skyrim.
    Your analysis of the trajectory was good, but things like reload shot or Arrow stabs in close distance can be important tools as well.
    You can also shoot around corners when you walk sideways while shooting. On solid distance you can hit an enemy you can't even see around a wall.
    There are many more examples for effective combat use of Archery.

    I've read that bullseye isn't really a good perk for long range shooters, because when you fire the arrow you actually shoot the spell paralyze at the same time, and the spell actually travels faster than the arrow itself, you won't notice it from close range, but from far range the target would fall and dodge the actual arrow
