This is not a Drakar, but a Viking plaesure boat. Drakar should be much larger (30 pairs of oars or more). Only one of these ships was discovered during the excavations of Skuldelev (Skuldelev 4).

Oh I am wandering if the carvings were colorful painted before the ship went to the Grave. That is very likely.... Many carved fregments from that time were found with paint. ..... This Model would be a perfect base for a diorama of the gravesite when it was still open for the burial. YOu would realy like to build all the bedframes and the main cabin and acountrements...... nice job😀

Ensuite, j'utiliserai des huiles, des cires ou de la gomme-laque pour développer le bois - comme c'est le cas sur les modèles de musée construits au 17ème siècle... C'est ma « religion » dans le mannequinat ! Tout ce qui était en bois sur un vrai navire devait être en bois sur une maquette, les pièces métalliques - en métal, etc...

I think they might have been painted. Maybe I'll find out when I finish reading the newly published book with the Oseberg documentation...

Les décorations ne sont pas belles. L'idéal serait de les refaire en 3D en imprimant sur une imprimante à résine !
