'Things have changed': On the Norway-Russia border, locals live in the shadow of Putin’s regime

Life has changed on the Norwegian-Russian border. From commerce to border security, the invasion of Ukraine has transformed the way Norway and Russia co-exist. For the Russians living over the border, it's important "to separate Putin's regime and Russians in general because these are two different things". But for some, suspicion is ripe, - some "are not here just as tourists".

It's so sad that post Soviet Russia began so well and showed every sign it would join strongly with Europe, Scandinavia and the world in having strong ties and be well integrated into the civilised world. Then came Putin. Unable to move forward from his old Soviet thinking he has completely corrupted his country into becoming a pariah state. The tragedy for us all is obvious, for Russia itself and especially for neighbours of Russia, particularly Ukraine, when we could have had a Russia that was free and democratic, with strong mutually advantageous economic, social and political ties. We've ended up with this.

@@abrahamdozer6273 May use transistors if produced in 70's-80's. It will be instructive if Russia conscripts its fishing fleet into SIGINT collections or spying. Maybe the fishermen just stole them to sell to collectors on Ebay. Enquiring minds want to know!

The world is much bigger than Europe or West in general 😅. So, Russians has plenty of places to go. And in opposite to so called "free world=the West" Russia is far from forbidding people from these unfriendly country to come in to Russia and see what is really like 🙂. So who is free, democratic and tolerant after all? 🙂
