The opening section is sweetly alluring. I'm held captive to be sure! The dynamic second section bursts upon us, continuing with intermittent delicate and inventive phrases. To reveal my limited experience with Gould's fine performances, I am surprised and delighted at his capacity to play with tender constraint. Remarkable piece sparkles under his deft fingers. Each note has a purity of sound and centered evenness. Gorgeous. Bravos to Haydn for his genius and Gould his sensitive performance!! I'm astonished at the stunning musicianship illustrated in this pairing. Many, many thanks to our dedicated and beloved David!!

Wonderful tempo of the second movement. "Vivace" is often played like prestissimo in modern performances, he plays at a very satisfying tempo

This is typically Gould. But not unpleasing I must admit.

A theme and variations in the first movement is quite unusual. I can certainly understand why Gould preferred Haydn over Mozart. A pristine performance.

Didn't Gould perform Mozart? I've heard at least some of his fantasies.

@@Tsipiano. ". . . preferred Haydn over Mozart." Of course, Gould played some Mozart, but he liked to play Haydn more. Does that help? With respect.

@@messrtwinky Ah, thank you! Apparently he preferred Bach and Schoenberg to everyone else :)

At first, while I was listening, I was thinking, is someone humming in the background? It’s so distracting. Then I looked at the name of the artist - Glenn Gould - of course. Impeccable playing/interpretation, but I’m sorry, I can never get used to the humming.

      That was Gould. Irrepressible.

Well I noticed how cantabile he is always. Well you have to be when you do so much JS Bach who is so melodious. I think this is very touching.❤
