I've never heard of Figment until I watched Jenny Nicholson's videos (never been to Disney World, only Disneyland) but upon watching this... I LOVE HIM!
Why do I feel like the ending room is almost like Disney giving guests the middle finger? It's almost like "Well, you asked for us to bring Figment back, well here you go! Here's a room full of Figment!"

And when their boring scientific ride was rightly panned for being both unimaginative and an insult to the riders, the executives resented being forced to actually bring imagination back into the ride. Dreamcatcher was still left out though... Now the ride is closed last I heard, after Kodak finally pulled out. The imagination pavilion is stuck in limbo, though there's talk about what's going to happen with it with the huge update to Epcot that's planned. Given Disney's recent PC flops though, money might be getting pretty tight on the corporate end of things. Honestly, I preferred if it remained mothballed than turned into some cringy SJW ride.

I first went to Epcot on holiday from Glasgow, Scotland in 1984, and I loved this ride, thank you for posting , I worked in the rose and crown pub 99-2000 and went as often as I could, but it was never the same, still love it though, nostalgia eh ? Xx

It's far better than Journey Into Your Imagination, but still nowhere as good as the original experience. Not to mention, neither the right/left ear test or the skunk smell worked properly when I rode.
Guys, guys if you like this ride you can still enjoy it it will never close for inside out and inside out will be in wonders of life or something, but no figment will never be going away

Anyone baffled by the butterfly trick? Well, this is how it works!!! There is a half of a swing, that goes back and forth. Then there is a mirror, reflecting the half of a butterfly on the screen. Or mirror I guess. Then, as you turn, you see the other side of the mirror, witch has no butterfly. 😀💩
The weirdest thing about this is that the effects team on "It's Tough to be a Bug" used a real stink bug for smell reference, but the skunk in this ride is actually the smell of burnt coffee.

That's likely because this is a modified Omnimover ride, a system where the ride vehicles are constantly moving. Think Haunted Mansion's Doom Buggies or Spaceship Earth's Time Machines. Omnimover rides are notorious for stopping now and then for a few seconds or minutes to help a person on who needs help.
It is kind of out of the way. I remember the first time I found out about captain EO was when we were riding on the monorail and the announcer had mentioned it. Never knew until then.
Largely because of its history and how much this version butchered pretty much everything that made the first incarnation of the ride so beloved. The fist version of the ride that ran from 1983 to 1998 was easily some of Disney's best work. It had memorable characters, incredible detail, whimsical sets, and just an overall charm to it that would be nearly impossible to recreate. In 1998, due to pressures from then-sponsor Kodak, the ride was drastically altered in 1999 to a more of a sensory fun house based largely around illusion, and removed almost all references to the ride's original characters...people absolutely HATED it, so just a few years later, it was overhauled again into this version. Basically, it kept the settings of V2, but reintroduced Figment back...and whoever was in charge of this version clearly had almost no respect for the original, and transformed what used to be one of the most amiable characters Disney's created to one of its most obnoxious and annoying. TL:DR version: Ride used to be amazing, now it's just a very hollow shell of its former self.
Obnoxious character with no meaningful message behind them, just cringey delivery and an utterly underwhelming ride. I didn't see the original. Half the post-ride exhibits didn't even work. Instead of farting at us, it could have at least let us smell cinnamon or some pleasant mixture.

(I never went to Disney much as a kid) and now I have to agree... the original was actually better because it was more visually appealing, creative, and well, imaginative. I see what they were trying to do for the new ride, but it falls off as... kind of flat and cheap...
The 2nd version (Journey Into YOUR Imagination) was even worse than this version. It was so hated by visitors that it closed just two years after it opened.
I haven't been on the newer version yet, but I still have memories of the original Journey into the Imagination.We are going to Walt Disney World in August or September, and i look forward to all of the newer ride that wee have not been on yet.

If that's the case, do yourself a massive favor and look up the original version. It's light years beyond what's there now. I'll also point out Disney and Marvel collaborated for two different five part comic miniseries based on the original ride. Well worth a read if you're at all interested in the attraction.
figment and this ride reminds me of a movie I saw a few years ago and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. also I didn't see much of it (I think it was near the end when I saw it). kids imaginations were running wild and materializing. that's all I can remember. I think Casper the Friendly ghost was in it too.
when i rode this as a kid, i thought it was educational and taught you about your 5 senses but then i saw imagination and it made me think the ride is really random when it comes to what it shows you

Two reasons: -This version was intended to be a temporary Band Aid to cover up the disaster of Journey into YOUR Imagination while a suitable replacement could be made...which just never happened. Part of why it never really happened was because... -Even with a terrible ride, Figment sells merch. Disney knows the ride isn't great, but the fact that it still generates a lot of money in merchandising is their excuse to keep kicking the can down the road instead of fixing it (same thing happened with Stitch's Great Escape). The good news is that Disney's all but confirmed an Imagination overhaul is coming as part of the overall Epcot overhaul...but there are literally no other official details other than the pavilion's inclusion in official overhaul artwork. The speculation is that the pavilion is slated to be the big refurb of phase 2, closing around 2022-23 (Spaceship Earth being the priority refurb of phase 1), and that the replacement will still feature Figment in some major capacity. I have a feeling official details won't be out until closer to that rumored closing date, and it's probably important to take the speculation with a grain of salt.

That was my favorite ride at Epcot when I was a kid. It used to be a lot more crowded in the 1980s. I like the animation they used for Figment.

The good news is that Disney's all but confirmed an Imagination overhaul is coming as part of the overall Epcot overhaul...but there are literally no other official details other than the pavilion's inclusion in official overhaul artwork. The speculation is that the pavilion is slated to be the big refurb of phase 2, closing around 2022-23 (Spaceship Earth being the priority refurb of phase 1), and that the replacement will still feature Figment in some major capacity. I have a feeling official details won't be out until closer to that rumored closing date, and it's probably important to take the speculation with a grain of salt.
Don't worry, they're refurbishing it in 2014. Hopefully they'll bring the Dreamfinder back!

I remember figment being teamed up with a guy in a top hat with a beard was that a different ride?
That was the original (i.e. good) version that operated from 1983 to 1998. Due to issues with sponsorship financing, the ride was overhauled in 1999 into a version that basically ruined the ride (literally everything good from the original ride was gone). After that spectacularly failed, it was overhauled again to incorporate Figment back in (this version).
