لا لدفع مستحقات الديون على حساب الشعب | No to the payment of the March 2020 eurobonds

سيأتي دفع الديون المستحقة في شهر آذار ليستنزف الاحتياطي اللبناني الشحيح من العملات الأجنبية الضروري لتغطية حاجات المواطنين الأساسية. ليس من الحكمة المضي قدمًا في سداد السندات بالكامل، بينما سبق ان انخفضت قيمتها في السوق بنسبة 40٪ إلى 50٪ حيث تتوقّع الأسواق إعادة هيكلة الدين. كما أنه من غير المقبول المضي قدمًا في سداد أصل الدين والفائدة، بحيث يتم تغليب مصلحة بعض المصارف والمستثمرين، في وقت لم يعد الاقتصاد قادراً على تحمل هذا العبء. لذلك، تدعو كلنا إرادة الحكومة إلى تحمّل مسؤوليتها تجاه الشعب اللبناني والشروع نحو إعادة هيكلة منظّمة للدين ضمن إطار خطة إصلاح اقتصادية مالية ضريبية مصرفية شاملة.
Paying March's $1.2Bn maturity will deplete Lebanon’s already scarce reserves, needed to cover the basic needs of the population. It's unwise to proceed paying bonds at full, when the market has already written down their values by 40%-50% & is expecting a restructuring of debt. It is inadmissible to proceed with the payment of debt principal and interest, privileging interests of few banks and investors, when the economy is not able to bear this burden. We call on the Government to honor its responsibility towards the Lebanese people and proceed immediately to an orderly restructuring of the debt within a comprehensive macroeconomic-fiscal-financial-banking reform programme.
