Chucking is something that happened incidentally in my own playing, after a couple years of just playing, so I don’t really know how to explain it 😅 But there are many great uke teachers on TH-cam who teach more technical things like this. I can give you my personal number one tip for chucking and muting - I use my whole hand to strum instead of just the one pointer finger. I find this gives me a lot more sound and stability when strumming.
It means you add the 9th tone of the F scale to a regular F major chord. An F chord (meaning F major) has the tones F-A-C, or tones 1-3-5 from the F major scale. F add 9 has 1-3-5-9, or F-A-C-G. It’s easy to form on a ukulele because the strings are tuned such that with open strings, we already have 3 of the notes in that chord 😁
Hi Chris, thanks for your comment! I don't often teach strum patterns anymore, because practicing solid rhythm is more effective and more important than learning this pattern or that pattern. If you are a beginner, you wouldn’t be expected to play this strum rhythm, even if I explained it. If you're not a beginner and have the ability level to play this strum, then you could figure it out from the notation in the caption, and you probably wouldn't need a lesson for it. So for now, you should be just strumming down or doing some other more simple strum rhythm until you gain more experience and better rhythm. You don’t have to do exactly what I’m doing in the video - in my videos or anyone else's for that matter - focus on what works for you, what is best for you to gain practice and experience. You said you like the chords - then play the chords with a simple down strum 1-2-3-4.

You can leave the G string open - so just 0432 (instead of 4432) - that chord font has more complicated than necessary chord shape for Em.
