    It's true that the Mazda 2 is based on the B3 platform, but it's not the 5th generation fiesta it's based on, but the 6th (2008-2019). It shares suspension, brakes, engine mounts, and the diesel engines with the Fiesta. Almost everything can be swapped from the Fiesta to the 2 except interior pars and engine specific parts.
    But this car is never gonna set your world on fire in a straight line, but it can be a hell of a good AutoX/Track car.

      I'd say 0-60 is crap, but I had the 1.6 diesel and on motorway it's a nippy little thing. I was neck and neck with a BMW 320 diesel once. The guy was looking at me surprised, I was looking back at him surprised too. It would pull away from quit a few cars wished I'd filmed most of them. A good little bit of tuning and it would make a good sleeper

      I don't have the diesel but can confirm it pulls, surprisingly well on the highway

    I have a mazda 2 and I am okay with it. Not the most exciting car but very reliable , no mechanical issue. The brakes are not very powerful but the gearbox is excellent, very precise.

    • @MikeVT

      Trung Do I agree 100%. Good point on the brakes, too.

    If you think this car is scary, you should drive my vintage 1971 Super Beetle. It has 52 horsepower and does 0-60 in 35 seconds. It also has a gas tank in the front holding 12 gallons of gas with drum brakes. I think the Mazda 2 is actually a pretty good value. I bought mine because I felt it was the closest thing to a classic VW bug. This is the car that VW should have copied when they reintroduced the bug in 97. The new bug was too expensive and had a lot of stuff that is not necessary for basic driving. I love the Mazda 2 gas mileage and handling.

    Love this car... I am NOT a race driver, just love how it looks and I am looking for a manual car. And it's not one that you see much on the roads...!

  • @adamtrack

    my mazda 2 1.5 petrol get me from 0 to 60 in 10 seconds and I can embarrass loads of drivers when pulling of from traffic lights :D So I don't get you why you tell any other car would be faster. I live in UK.

    Interesting video. This coming from a guy that owned a 2011 spirit Green touring the day in went on sale in Canada. Mazda dealer had no idea what would hit them cash wise. I took that car listed at 19grand and turned it into a 30 grand car. Having gotten all the upgrades at a final sale of 23 grand, worth 30 grand. Decals and all. Upgrades 5 speaker pioneer navigation touch screen stereo and boom box in the trunk. Which did eat up a lot of Trunk space. Also got the heated seats. Which is a plus in Montreal winters. With all that being said... I macked up this Mazda 2. The most unique one ever done in Canada. With an amazing insurance plan by Mazda. Called "Replace to New". I called my car Hulk. The sad part was getting into an accident in 2013. Hit on the driver side front side by a Ford Explore running a red light. How does one miss a spirit green. With that said. I had a field day having the car replaced with the last green spirit in Canada and having them to replace each up grade. The Mazda 2 was really meant to be a city car. Long distance. This car can go up to 500km (310 miles) in gas i agree.
    I had to laugh when you folded the back seat down. I guess when you made the video nobody told you that you could lift out the back cushion to have the seats flat.
    Check out my Mazda 2 Hulk1 upgraded. Video on my TH-cam page. th-cam.com/video/AgHyuR25pjc/w-d-xo.html

    • @MikeVT
      @MikeVT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Official Christopher Tyson thanks! And nice video yourself of the Hulk.
      I have tried removing the rear cushion, and the seats do lay more flat, but the seat backs still create a large bump. Take a look at the Honda Fit or even the Recent VW Golf’s (I had one before the Mazda) and they fold nice and flat. I wonder if the Canadian versions are any different?

    i have a sentra 2009, and i am a truly mazda fan for their qualities, and mazda 2 are the real best, mazda are god for doing manual transmission in my opinion, i driven one and it aint fast, but it feel quick and its super fun to drive, as super economical, small enough to steal parking places and comes in green wich for me is a most hehe. Super fun car and mazda deceived me yet, great video

    I had a 2011 Mazda2, also with the 5-speed but in the lower Sport trim level, for 4 years and over 60,000 miles. It was fun to drive and got 34-35 MPG, but the firm ride was tiring and its tires and brakes needed replacing more often than I'd like.

    • @MikeVT
      @MikeVT  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No way! sweet! The ride was very rough for me after I purchased it... Then it was discovered that my tire pressure was at 40psi when it should be around 30-32. Letting some air out helped quite a bit =)

      I am considering getting a used Mazda 2 in stick shift or VW Rabbit in stick as well. I like the Mazda reliablity and it was pretty fun during my test drive of an automatic Mazda 2.
      the VW rabbit has a terrific 5 cylinder motor with excellent power imo. Which would be your choice for a 2nd car just for fun.
      My reg car is an automatic Nissan Cube. I would never own just one car that is a stick shift. way too much shifting all the time.

    I wish I had the standard, but kiddo I couldn’t pass the deal up I think my wife paid 7000 and change we picked one up garage kept the bolts that hold the shocks and the springs still have the stickers on them. Anywhere you look on that car underneath doesn’t even have surface rust. It’s an amazing thing. The car has 54,000 miles on it. We just need a second car because my wife’s car got stolen and we weren’t looking for excitement. We were just looking for wheels, always remember wheels are better than heels.

    Do you recommend buying one. I found one here that's a 2012 with 33000klm for $5500 Canadian. It's standard also.

    • @MikeVT
      @MikeVT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Andrew Mellan if it’s in superb shape and not rusty, I would recommend it. It’s a very simple car.
      If I had to do it again, I might have waited for a good condition Honda Fit which has a smarter interior layout. The rear seats can fold completely flat for instance which i find convenient.

    Just bought a 2012 Mazda 2 and it has the same rattle in the front right side. Bought it for a beach condo as an island driver. Great video. Would love to hear if your front end issue was the swaybar fix.

    • @bjbraunlich
      @bjbraunlich 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW I have 98k miles. Great to hear they go to 120k plus mileage.

    • @MikeVT
      @MikeVT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice!!! It will be a great car for that. The rattle was 85% fixed by replacing the sway bar end link with a the MOOG product. I still hear a clunk sometimes but I think it’s likely the struts which may have 140k miles on them. Don’t mess around with the cheap end links since I went through two in under 1000 miles. The MOOG product also installs far better. Hope this helps and drive safe.

    Find a 1966 Datsun 411 sedan or station wagon (hard to find) and take it for a drive and imagine it being in a crash..........Or better still and more fun 🤔 any small car from England, France or Italy from the 1950s to the 1970s. Be safe out there...it is going to start snowing again.
