I really like the quad designs. The Basilisk Quad sounds like a pack of these would be absolutely terrifying to go up against, especially if they can climb onto other mechs.
@@Kyle-wc3nf I didn't dislike the designs, I always figured they were designed specifically to be totemisitic and/or a monstrous in the same way a samurai's mempo (face guard) was supposed to frighten opponents.
Altough Battletech lore it's rich and interesting to hear, I never liked the mechs themselves: I grew up with giant robots but mechs are just tanks with legs. These proto-mechs on the other hand are closer (very ugly designed, but still closer) to my concept about what a giant robot is. However I understand and agree with those who say that the proto-mechs are out of place in the battletech universe.
Sorry guys, but these things look more like gundam than mechs. I kinda hate them. They ruin the universe where battle mechs are passed down the generations, the houses clashing over Star Leage weapon caches. I'm stuck in the Fasaverse and proud.
Sorry to say, FASA intruduced the First protos during the Twilight of the Clans. They were in Tech Readout 3060/61. (FASA folded at the end of the Fed Com Civil war).
Tanner I couldn't agree more! They have no place in battletech and are really a stain on the franchise if I wanted to play a shit game with this crap I would play warhammer 40k.
how do they ruin the universe? they are basically just bigger battle armor piloted by little dudes, unless you want to argue that battle armor also ruins the universe? some assault battle armors can probably be considered in the same weight class or height as the smaller protomechs...its just that clan tech is very good and thus they can make bigger "kinda battle armor". some battle armor, even ones made by the sphere are basically tiny mechs as they are just very cramped cockpits with limbs (not all battle armor are "power armor"). a protomech just takes that idea and cranks it to 11. "mechs are passed down the generations"...i mean, thats true...for the innner sphere. did you miss the part where these are made by the clans. a warrior caste society that didnt nuke all their technology back to the stone age like the houses of the sphere....unless you want to argue that the "clans" ruined battletech? sorry to say bud, but the clans are here to stay. "these things look more like gundam than mechs"...now i know that you actually know nothing. these monster inspired suits look nothing like gundams (a more warrior in armor look). but that criticism is weird, since the guy who designed the gundam also designed dougram...you know...the shadowhawk. unless you want to take that stick out of you ass, you will have to also claim that some of the oldest and most iconic battlemechs are ruining the setting. oooh boy, if we had it your way then say goodby to any mech inspired from japan..such as: stinger, wasp, pheonix hawk, warhammer, archer, maurader, wolverine, shadowhawk, griffon, thunderbolt, battlemaster. im pretty sure theres more mechs, but the point stands, that battletech wouldnt exist without anime influences. this weird cristism of the protomech is just ignorant. all you had to say was "i dont like the look of them"...but then i would have to point out every single battlemech that was 1st drawn and how bloody goofy they were. if the protomech had gotten more artwork of it over years of publicaton then i would expect the designs to be improved to where even you would like them...but then again, i bet you would find a reason to complain because it doesn't fit your very narrow minded view of the battletech setting.
@@jaromswenson7541 idk, they shouldnt have the resourses to give them hair, or make them look like animals. Why waste money during a war? Function over form says I. Like making your point with just three sentences.
prettyy much every single battlemech of the old art looked pretty bad...and your kinda ignoring all the "battlemech with an obvious motif". if the protomech had gotten more artwork done of it, i bet there would be many designs that the fans would enjoy, just like how some of the battlemechs only look decent after their more modern artwork came out.
dude, battletech was built off of stupid designed mechs. if these guys had only gotten multiple redesigns over the years i bet you would play a different tune.

Next episode is gonna have a few quads.
Protomechs when you want to annoy your oponent to death with style.
I always liked the concept of protomechs, sort of an in-between Battle Armor and Light Battlemechs
I really like the concept as well, but I find it kind of silly and immersion breaking how every one of them looks like an animal or a monster.
@@Kyle-wc3nf I didn't dislike the designs, I always figured they were designed specifically to be totemisitic and/or a monstrous in the same way a samurai's mempo (face guard) was supposed to frighten opponents.
protomechs are fun to use on city maps.
"Protomech? That's cool."
*stomp*
A great video on the Proto-Mechs that are not prototypes.
The video itself, however, is prototypically GDN's amazingly well done content!!!
Thanks. There's gonna be one more.
I know some people don’t like the idea of Protomecha but honestly I think it’s a cool concept. It really makes the Clans feel that much more alien.
The Proctor 2 looks like the progenitor of the Fenrir heavy battle armor

The quads seems to be better than the bipedal just for the added cool factor.
Boy I gotta say when I hear Orc I think fast, maneuverable and easy to kill with one shot! 😳
Unless its Black Orcs :D
They have an Orc, but no half-Orc 😀.
nobody tell the Fighting Uruk-Hai about the Orcs
Wouldn't be surprised if there's an uruk-hai design somewhere.
A one tube SRM? Hell, an Elemental has more firepower( and cost less resources).
But...its a ONE TUBE SRM!!!
Ah yes, the furry mech

So ugly. Like if someone tried to shoehorn a bunch of generic monsters into battle tech by making them look like cosplay robot versions of themselves.
I mean...all the original Battlemechs are based off Japanese toys. The Proto-Mechs are based off Transformers i believe. Because...reasons?
That's funnier than it sounds :D
