    i doubt you guys will see this, but if you do, a flashlight is a great tool for checking eggs to determine if they have started to develop. you put the egg right up to the lens of a bright flashlight and you should be able to tell if it's growing or not.
    most likely any flashlight you have onboard will be powerful enough.
    if i were you i would get a small flashlight to take with when going to local markets, just in case you decide to buy eggs.
    oh, and remember, just because there's no visible growth now, doesn't mean there won't be in a week or 2. because most eggs you find at local markets are fertilized.

    The wife and I were able to do 8 dives on that wreck all progressively deeper. What a spectacular wreck. On a sad note the owner of Allan Power dive shop passed away early December. He told me he bought that land in front of the wreck in the early 1970 and put down roots on the island
    He was driving divers and training dive masters for 38 years. He never got certified as a diver. He will be missed.

      Aww. So sad to hear. Thanks for sharing. He was driving us to the wreck from his house when we were there a few months ago. An absolute legend. So grateful to have had the chance to meet him. He loved that wreck. Awesome guy!

    Wreck diving is awesome. Dove on the Hakai, a supply ship, in Rabaul Harbor in New Britain in 1983. Never forget running out of ait at 140ft, buddy breathing to decompress and I was recovering from Malaria at the time. You cannot get enough of it. Now its all under silt due to the volcano erupting on the island.

    I had to laugh when I saw your reaction to seeing the toilets all lined up. The WWII US Navy ships used this arrangement in the crew's head. What you might not have noticed was the metal trough that ran beneath the toilet seats in which seawater ran from forward to aft in a constant stream to wash away the poop. This basic system was often used to wad up some TP paper, set it afire, and drop it into the stream...to the surprised dismay of all those downstream. I learned about this joke the hard way. I'll never get over there to dive and see what y'all saw it looked like an awesome dive... I physically can't travel and my age and my lungs won't allow me to dive unless I Want the dive to be the last thing on this earth I do... That why I get such joy watching videos like yours... Y'all take me places I've never been and never will be able to go physically... Thanks for another great video. I truly enjoyed every moment of it. Well except the egg part I could have lived without seeing that... LOL... It brought back childhood memories life on the farm. We would find an egg now and than that had a baby growing inside of it... For a long time I wouldn't eat eggs until there was a time in my life that, That's all we had to eat was eggs. I didn't like eggs but I hated going to bed hungry three nights in a row....
    It's good seeing you kids having fun. Be blessed... BBE..

    Very cool to see the Coolidge! Since you were not obviously in the military one of the most eye opening parts of military service is the bathrooms. Stalls are nonexistent in the Navy. When I first went into basic training (boot camp) I was a bit shocked that you don’t get to take a dump in private!
    You just have to learn how to do your business with everyone watching. You try to hold it as long as you can waiting for everyone to leave but that very rarely happens. Eventually you just can’t wait so you learn that private dumps are simply not an option!
    Oh well! Go Navy! I wouldn’t trade that time for anything in the world! POW training was definitely the toughest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Especially since I went through that week injured with a scratched cornea. The flight surgeon tried to pull me but then I would have had to go back weeks and start all over again. So I begged him to let me stay in and finish with my company.
    My captors singled me out constantly with my eye all bandaged up. They kept reminding me that my injury was not going to get me out of all the real fun stuff like torture and getting the crap kicked out of me.
    That was exactly 40 years ago and I still remember that my war criminal number (how you are designated) was 42. Sir! What a grand time! spending a week in a POW compound in the mountains with only a pair of boxer shorts and flight boots. No sox By the way!
    You definitely learn allot about yourself! And today my VA medical made it all worth it!
    This is a great country! And I’m proud to have served!

    What an awesome video!!! Fuel for lobster. I suspect you are just being a good guy, Ben. I am curious about something though. When you are mixing with the villagers (which sounds really awesome by the way) how do you know you are safe?
    The living conditions there look strikingly similar to those that I saw in Haiti. I suspect that when you are living with a dollar a day, on average, the conditions were the same no matter where you went in the world. I found the people in Haiti to be beautiful with very strong faith and family values. Now that I think of it, I think I answered my own question about safety. I take it back. I envy you guys. Thank you so much for bringing this to us.
    I find your experience with these beautiful people much more fascinating than the dive. Although admittedly, that dive was really awesome as well.
    I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year. All the best, Jim Andersen, Cat Boat Adventures, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.

    Please treat war wrecks with the same reverence as you would a cemetery. People met their end there. Also if you continue to nonchalantly handle unexploded ordinance, you might join them.

    • @David-ql1hd
      @David-ql1hd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Treating wrecks as a cemetery? Yes, definitely when there are unrecovered dead still remaining. In this case, there are no dead in the wreck. Two out of roughly 5,340 men died, all of which were recovered from the ship.
      Secondly, that wasn't unexploded ordinance... they were spent casings from a large bore gun and no more dangerous than a casing from a 9mm hand gun.

      @JDS11ify 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry David: there was unused rifle ammo near the beginning of the dive and unexploded 3 to 4 inch casings with the round still intact. Recommend look again. Why would there be spent rounds neatly stacked! Not positive but that wreck was likely a supply ship. No evidence of guns of any type. A fighting ship would not have aircraft fuel tanks in piles.@@David-ql1hd
