I'm 63 and used to run home to watch Speed Racer. Without a doubt, one of the coolest cartoons ever. I even like the 2008 movie because it kept so much of the spirit of Speed Racer alive. Thank you, Peter Fernandez for making such a timeless and special cartoon. And Tatsuo Yoshida-san, Arigato Gozaimasu.

I was born in '65 and yeah, loved the show, but especially the car, spending many a day drawing it and trying to get it just right - my mom has told me that she looked all over for a Mach 5 model or toy back in the day for Xmas, but of course, there wasn't anything like that - many years later she ended up getting me a die-cast when they finally started making them and even though I was then an adult, I loved finally having a Mach 5 in my hands and still have it to this day.

I wanted to be Racer X. He was the older guy, and just the coolest. He'd pop up when things were really bad and either help out or completely fix the situation, then drop some wisdom on you, and like the Lone Ranger, he'd pop smoke before you could say thanks. Making the techno dance record that we simply titled SPEED was the most fun I had in all of 1993!
I was also one of those kids who ran home after school in the early 1970’s to watch it.
For a while we weren’t sure if Speed Racer Enterprises was going to give us the rights to release it, but ultimately they did and the record really exploded in the dance clubs in Chicago where we are from, and ultimately to the east coast and beyond.
This club buzz got MTV interested and they ran one week’s worth of classic Speed Racer episodes. The response was really good so they ran it weekly for I think 2 or 3 years.
Our record didn’t really sell much in Europe because the show never really aired there, as a result it had European DJs asking us “who’s this bloke Speed Racer?” They didn’t know of him, so no one to feel nostalgic.
Speed races on in reruns and reboots all around the world, and nothing could make me happier.

In first and second grade I ran home with a homework bag up and down significant hills to see the intro. Class was out at 2:45 PM and the show started on WSNS out of Chicago at 3:00? Can't remember for sure. They were the White Sox station at the time. I ran 1.3 miles in less than 13 minutes, or so, as a small child, and those hills weren't small. Just to see Speed Racer. Turned into an OK half miler as result as I got into junior high and high school. Mom started picking my younger brothers and myself up from school around 4th grade, and Speed Racer wasn't the same motivation at that time. My younger brothers were not very good at any distance over 220 yards. That crazy show won me some first place ribbons! No trophy's back then.

I actually started street racing with/against the guys in my Southside Chicago neighborhoods then for real when I got to different army posts. Married a bad a#z Brotha mechanic who also loved racing. We did some crazy sh#t in sick muscle cars we built. 🏎
We all literally raced home after school to catch Speed Racer then The Green Hornet, Munsters and Addams Family.

Every afternoon after-school we’d run home and watch this show on channel 44 in Chicago. It ran for years.
I always loved the bad-dubbing and over the top screams when they crashed.

I'm 53 and loved Speed Racer. The car has always been the central figure. To this day, I love cars and my #1 is the Mach 5 which is why the Lamborghini Raventon is the modern day Mach 5 and my favorite actual car.
I think Speed Racer is also why I, too, am a Speed Demon.

Peter Fernandez is such a talented guy. He not only has a great voice and played Speed and Racer X but he also wrote and directed the original series.
It was also great to see him do a brief cameo as a radio announcer in the 2008 Speed Racer live action film.

I loved that show. My older brother painted my peddle car white and with a sharpie he did the pin striping. Wish we had taken pictures. One of the things that made being a little kid in the seventies so cool. "He's a demon on wheels" ✌🏼🤘🏻

This was my childhood in the mid 1970s, after school was so important to me. The lineup was Speed Racer, Ultra Man, Sea-Lab 2020 and the final show Clutch Cargo was one I had difficulty relating to but then it was almost dinner time.

I loved that show when I was a kid. I've virtually forgotten everything about it, except for the pads under his car that made it jump. I wanted a car with those.
And I loved the song - the songs always seemed to be half the appeal of the show because it was the only time you got to hear the song again. I would run home from school like Speed Racer just to be sure I didn't miss the song at the start of the show.
And Trixie became some deep archetype of the kind of girl that appealed to me.
They must have done a study of what kind of girl a boy would like.
