Unbiased round 1 rating here. First off, all 3 bands know how to make an entrance. However, North Atlanta's was just cut DIFFERENT in the entrance regard. Raw through and through, big ups to the announcer. Loved Kipp's entrance as well. I arranged the same song for my high-school band when I was band director there. Ups to Osborne on their entrance, I've come to like their entrance cadence as of late. With that being said, onto the bands. Kipp - The band started strong with a brassy sound that reminded me of college-level HBCU bands. They brought both crank and energy, which seemed to intimidate their opponents. The trombones had some issues during the Superhero verse, but the sousaphones held tempo and played in time, which is a rare feat. The low brass had some intonation issues, but overall the band blended well and stayed balanced. Kipp gets an 8/10 for their great job at hyping up the audience and showing an intimidation factor. Osborne - The band began with a soft piano intro, and the trumpets had some noticeable cracks throughout. However, once the dynamics shifted, they had a nice full sound that helped them in this battle. The euphoniums backed up in the slightly top-heavy "I keep forgetting" section, and the band maintained a clean and stable sound throughout. There were some issues with blending in the trumpet section, but the bass line was funky and the sousaphones sounded united. Overall, a solid performance that earned Osborne an 8.5/10. North Atlanta - The band's entrance was unique and entertaining, with the announcer and drumline feature grabbing attention right away. Their intro cadence fit perfectly with the hype songs played by other bands. Once I realized such, I IMMEDIATELY knew that North Atlanta would surprise me. I had assumed their band forfeited and just threw in a drumline feature instead. Before I knew it the camera shifts and I see them on the balcony. That was a game changer for me and others who watched the video with me. That intro with "Superhero" sounded ANGRY! The Baritones and Sousaphones provided a dark, evil sound from that angle. When they finally hit the floor, it was with an intense level of energy. The trombones and baritones were especially impressive, letting it rip with a clean and balanced sound. There were some issues with being top-heavy and balanced at times, but overall, North Atlanta put out a great sound that earned them a 9/10. Their performance was memorable and showed how passionate they were about representing their school. Great job all bands!
North atl trumpets was lowkey booty they sounded nice in the upper register but they should’ve at least practiced their music after Osborne played superhero the announcer was hyping up north atl and then the trumpets played horrible😂
Beautiful showcase of the children’s talents. Thoroughly impressed. KIPP Purple Reign dancers were eloquent, fierce with a touch of this ain what you want!!!
I think they all did great! Now there really outshined the other to me. North Atlanta entrance was fire, but it was there house, so that was expected. Osborne sounded amazing. Kipp did good as well.
From an outsider, all of the bands did a great job! However Osbourne was the most organized and best sounding band. They played with dynamics! Loud is not better, alot of out of tune notes, a lot of blasting. The band in grey, nice horn sections- need some sectionals to tighten up. Keep working with "Trombone Shorty" - Future Section Leader. The homeband, loved the creativity of the entrance, however after that definitely need some sectionals to tighten up, definitely on the right track on becoming one if the top high school bands in the Atlanta area.
Balance is one thing. But playing notes above the staff while maintaining a great dynamic contrast is outstanding. Balance is the beginning but Effort on the air and how the notes come out play a long run
