Murray from touch the sea aquarium was a good family friend. Great memories fishing with him to stock the tanks and it was a very bad day when it was torched. We lost Murray recently but I will never forget him - one of the only happy birthday texts I would get without fail.
Murray was an old friend of mine too Simon. I gave him guitar lessons and I taught him what was the best guitar to use. We played together just for fun. I can still remember his big strong finger. Him and I also got the same cancer. Alot of men in particular got cancer in Mapua. Some believe it was related to the old FCC plant clean up. Murray was a good bloke and I have many fond memories of him.
great snapshot of your village and the people that live there Clay, some sadness when the inevitable change and development comes to town, hope changes don't detract from the attraction of being a quiet seaside village, so glade you have your little pocket of dirt to retreat to.
Love this! Met Snook some years ago, 2004 I think it was? Have a few bits of Snooks big circular wooden art here in the UK! Was there when the Worlds Biggest Games were on; fantastic times!!
Clay , you are very proud of your home town, Mapua is as you say one of the nicest places on earth. Thank you so much for showin* us around the place brings back lots of memories of my visit there. I visited the knife guys place was brilliant and I coffee in the place beside it is great, you should try it. I can’t think of the place just off the main highway it’s a cafe where they have a small river and loads of big eels. Thanks again.
What a great place mate, spoilt for choice, its good to see Dan's doing good. loved that shop where you bought your sharpener , great and interesting video as always.
Awesome one Clay, so cool to see what home looks like and hear the facinating stories to go with it. Will definitely stop in on my southern road trip one day. Cheers mate
Sure is a nice place alright , that whole area including Nelson is just fantastic and so are the people . What caught my eye was that knife sharpening jig you bought , man you could get a fine edge on all your knives with that , cheers mate .
No doubt I saw you back in the day. Love my 4Square. Great trip, had a beer last time at the Sprig'n' Fern. Nessie,my mum was the swimmer. Thanks Clay 😊 Oh the whitebait, yummy.

Thanks for the video Clay. Have not been to Mapua in forty years. Hell its grown. In your video I caught a glimpse of the old ship Matipo from the Anchor Shipping and Foundry. Worked on her during Surveys in Nelson. After my apprenticeship at Anchor Shipping moved to Cobb River with the NZED. Great life and never really appreciated the place in my younger day. Just wondering if you knew the Sparrow family in Mapua. Worked with Dave Sparrow at Cobb River.
You might have known my dad John Ward. He worked on that boat. He was a marine engineer before he became the ranger at Totoranui in the early 70s. Yeah I knew Dave. That was all years ago now. Mapua has grown
Great vlog clay, been a long time since I was up your way, I need to get back there. Loved this video, hopefully I get the 4 days off I've requested at Easter, I'm still a modern day slave though, so fingers crossed.
Thanks for sharing were you live mate definitely on my bucket list before you bought that knife sharpener was going to comment on you buying it but you bet me to it 👍 🏴
Hey Clay great Vlog mate, Need to get down to Mapua one day. On that note would you be interested in going out for a mission on the kayaks one day? I have my own kayak and I'm living in Wellington at the moment .
Great tour of Mapua Clay! Lucky you didn't leave the "Bat Mobile" overnight, can you imagine the whitebait stink? Speaking of the "Bat Mobile", where did it come from? Borrowing or hiring while the ute gets fixed?
A business man in Auckland paid for it while I was running around getting treatments for cancer all over the country two years ago. I have to give it back once I get the all Clear which will be when I get bloods do this month. Hopefully I give it back to him. 😆
have a look at the kerrismore SF boots . the are a great winter boot full leather 2.4mm , goretex, thermal lined so nice and warm... also a hih cut boot . the boots were designed for the british special forces. they are a high quality boot . retail price $99 from the military surplus store. .
Hey Clay. I was wondering if you’d be able to create a video about the pros and cons of living in New Zealand and some things to consider if moving from the US. Either on TH-cam or Patreon. Thanks mate. Keep up the great vids!
@@ClayTallStories Your videos are the first glimpse of NZ I have seen other than your tv shows "Westside" and "Outrageous Fortune" -- I especially like Westside, but it left me curious about how the real people live!

Several days ago I read a headline regarding hunters in New Zealand being a bit irate over some new laws passed or trying to be enforced affecting the population's personal firearms. So far you've yet to discuss what they have in store for the civilians there. Hope to hear something soon, as our new President is trying to erase or delete our 2nd amendment here.
I will keep you posted but so far everything is sweet. My daughter just got her fire arms license no problem so I am going to set her up for this winter. It's going to be awesome when she starts dropping me off some meat for a change.
@@ClayTallStories Too true Clay...I remember when she got hers and you were setting her up for some possum traps. No big talks about a mandatory gun "buy back" of all the owners-that is good news.
Owning guns not a problem in New Zealand chaps, just high power military automatic weapons and enormous magazines designed to mow down human beings, leaving them for the professional use only :-) Wonderful trip down memory lane, cheers Clay. Snook!! He hasn't changed a bit! Super.
Nice 😊beautiful!!!!
