    $150,000 may seem like a discouraging barrier to most artists, but about half of that is for recording and production expenses. So if you're an artist that can produce mix and master him or herself, you only need half of this budget, $75,000. And as far as marketing expenses, about half of that is for shooting content and videos. So if you add videography to your set of skills and can produce your own high-quality content and videos, you can cut that budget again down by half, so $37.5k. If you break this down over 1.5 years, that's a little over $2,000 a month you would need to invest into marketing and promoting the music and video content that you produce on your own. Though that is challenging, it's definitely feasible and more within the realm of possibility for most artists.

      While I appreciate you breaking it down this way, it still seems like a pretty bleak picture of being a musician that you need to spend essentially $40K over the span of 1-2 years at some point in your career to reach the point at which you can sustain yourself as an artist. That's like a full salary's worth in just marketing expenses.

    Great info... Testing out what song does the best before the big PR push of one song, is great advice. Could be cool to know how they do the testing.

    This was very good. We used to live in a day we could bootstrap it and really do some streetsmart marketing to build a fan base. It's all about engagement on social now - and getting the eyeballs on your micro-content. This was great value content - thanks Elliot.

    I recall Wendy holding her meetings about the industry at the ASCAP building in NYC 25 years ago... it is great she is still contributing to the greatness of artistes...
    She is also widely known for vouching for Cash Money Records signing at Universal Records.

    damn so gotta have 150k to burn to even have a chance? HA impossible, what a joke! Deffs not a good mind set to have or a realistic way to make it, pay to win is the scourge of this industry.

    • @Elliot.Tousley
      @Elliot.Tousley  ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think shes saying you HAVE TO have 150k. Shes saying that in her experience that is just typically what it costs over time to break an artist

    • @MrLilevil11
      @MrLilevil11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s just simple business. 150k is invested into an asset so that it can make more than 150k in returns.
