If it was in the fall or winter i would have asked to keep the pelt. If the fall/winter the fair gets nice and thick (it's called Prime) and that is when it is worth money for a trapper. Trapping nuisance is needed but the best time (if possible) is during the fall and winter to utilize the fur.

Around 20 min mark. Wildlife conservation is also about population control. Too many deer in an area rubbing on trees, eventually kills the trees ergo population control. If people are so sensitive about natural process, maybe they have some growing up to do.

I first ate beaver back in SERE school (POW Survival School, a prerequisite for anybody who flew in SouthEast Asia) back in the early 70's. I know a LOT of people who say that beaver is what you eat when you're fresh out of bear rectum, but I thought beaver was (no jokes, there are children reading) the sweetest, most tender, moist meat that I had ever eaten in my life... but that might have been influenced by 5 days worth of eating worms, cockroaches, and undigested corn. HEY, you want my recipe for cockroach tea?

I agree with you on that point about chicken, cattle, pork, and why we find it perfectly okay to eat those but not deer, beaver, gopher etc.
But I think a lot of people draw that arbitrary line, not because they think about it, but because they don't.
You can get chicken, pork, and beef readily available in the deli at any supermarket. So that means it must be okay and good for us. But because it's harder for us to obtain or cultivate other types of meat I think most people just assume that it must mean that it's just automatically not as good for us just because it's not as readily available at any given moment.
I also think that the "cute factor" is another big reason. Chicken, cattle, pig, and especially fish aren't looked at by most people as "cute". So most people are okay with eating them. Rabbits, deer, and other smaller animals, are overlooked as food because a lot more people find them to be cute and so consider them about as edible as a pet dog or cat. (which are also perfectly edible animals).
Anyways, just wanted to also say, love the videos. Keep up the great work! :)

Great video! BTW, the jiggly stuff in the pot? It’s actually not fat it’s gelatin. Excellent for your joints, and it gives soups a silken texture.
I agree with you about people differentiating between different types of animals that are OK to eat. What we consider to be taboo to eat is based on your culture. Personally there’s not an animal that I think is off-limits in a survival situation, and if they taste good, who is to judge?

I honestly find it absurd that we have some weird 'can and can't eat' list of animals. Like, it's meat. It is all meat. What the hell does it matter what kind of meat it is, if it won't kill you it's good to eat. As for human meat, the reason we don't eat it is because they have identity. We respect their body to respect who they were. Same thing with pets, and even then sometimes people eat their pet if they see it fit. If you ask me, it is actually worse to say that certain animals can and cannot be eaten because then you are just selecting certain animals as nothing more than means of getting food. I understand why we do it, and it is because the animals we have selected are the easiest, cheapest, and most healthy things to produce and maintain. But that doesn't say anything about eating other animals. When I go fishing I will sometimes just have a fire near me and cook the fish there, gut it, and eat the whole thing. It just feels right to do, and I think that same feeling can be applied to any animal. So I think people need to calm down when someone mentions China's menu of the occasional dog.
(and for the record I am not endorsing cannibalism. That is a whole different discussion from animal meat)

19:00 Personally for me, I'd draw the line at companion animals. We made dogs to be our allies and companions, same with cats (even though they domesticated us, but same concept!), but basically any non-endangered wild animal is fair game to me. Eating carnivores gives me a weird vibe, not sure I'd eat bear or coyote, but I have no issues with someone else doing it. As long as you kill it quickly and with as little suffering as possible and use every part of the animal, there's no shame in hunting your own food. It's a really fascinating hobby.

When it comes to survival for me, there is no line or limits when it comes to eating animals in the wild. When a man is Hungary he should eat as much of that animal if not all. You guys show this well. Good vid 👍

I have a question.... before you smoke the beaver, do you take the hair off it first? What about cleaning it? Nothing worse then a dirty beaver. I heard of toad licking, have you guys ever tried “beaver licking”? I did...it’s really good as long as you clean it first.

The amount of beaver jokes in this lol
That being mentioned -- Wild caught meat tends to have a higher nutritional value to it because it's 'free range' and the animal eats what it's meant to eat. Therefore it'll contain a higher fat content as well as more minerals and so on.
Commercial meat is often lacking in this because of the feed the animals are given. They're fed on whatever has some nutritional value but also what is most affordable. Sometimes affordability sacrifices quality in animal feed.
Anyone complaining about eating meat that is hunted -- why are you watching? You knew what was coming lol The title kind of gave it away.
Anyway, I'm glad to see people eating as much as they can from a kill because at least it's not wasted or left to rot. Although, in nature things are rarely 'wasted'. One organism or another will make use of anything and everything. However, if you're going to kill it - eat it and use what you can of the animal so there is little left. The animal gave it's life so you could continue to life. Respect that sacrifice and make good use of that gift.
