It’s nice to come back to some of these older videos. It’s honestly pretty refreshing how your format has barely changed over the years - your delivery is just a bit higher-energy now, plus you demo the music less of course thanks to content ID. I think this is actually slightly before I found your stuff, but things from a year later I vaguely recall. It’s pretty wild how long it’s been tbh. Thanks for all the videos about old cars, radio, computers, and AV/hifi over the years!
Yeah! I've got the Sharp CD-C407 and it is from 1999! It is almost like yours. Also my stereo still works perfectly but the display doesn't light up anymore... Last year I've changed the belts on both cassette decks and a small gear in the cd carriage mechanism! Great stereo!
It is a Radio Shack Dolby Surround sampler CD. The AM tuner stopped working when it was around 5 years old due to a hairline crack in a circuit board trace. The board is very thin and flexes around when you pick up and move the stereo.
My Aiwa speakers are quite similar to those ones. The grills are not removable but you can still get in. They have a similar "super tweeter" and an even cheaper woofer with a plastic frame instead of metal.
woah! this brings back my memories during childhood, I would listen to Dr Alban, Modern Talking and more through this Sharp Mini Hifi everyday. I lost it in flood years back. 😭 I missed this time
We had that stereo in the music room in elementary school. They later replaced it wth another Sharp stereo that had Dolby Prologic II sound but the player on that one broke and always made the CDs skip so the went back to that one.
I have the one from 1997. I put cds in the 3 disc changer and it would make the noise like it's trying to read them, but would quickly go to the next cd, and once it went through all 3 it said no disc.
This is somewhat similar to my Phillips stereo system from 2000. It had an AM/FM tuner, 3-CD changer, and dual tape decks. However mine wasn't made as well as yours. The changer started having issues a couple months after it was purchased, and a few months ago it stopped working entirely. The tape deck went after that, and the thing stopped turning on a couple weeks ago.
lol I remember stereos like that! Everyone had one. Those things are definately not made to last very long so the fact that yours is working so well, shows how well you've kept it. The CD changer mechanism usually breaks down after a few months of regular use. lol I can just imagine some Wide Mouth Mason or Smashmouth coming out of that thing hehe
The AM tuner was never really that good, so at this point I would rather modify it to add an aux input connected to the outputs of the (now silent) AM tuner.
I like my old Sharp CD C612 a lot. It's in my living room with it's 4 discreet speakers. Wish the antennae worked better. My AM works, but I don't know how to enable it, and both cassette players work fine!
Amazing that the CD player is still working! Too bad about the AM, in Germany that wouldn't be too bad because there are only very few German stations on there, but as it seems in the US there's a lot more going on on AM. The speakers sound pretty good for what they are. Was this shot with your Sony MiniDV camcorder?
nice stereo i had one when i was in high school i wish i still had it have you try to put a jumper wire on the circuit board so you can have the am again just a thought if you ever plan to get rid of it i will take it
nice little stereo. and I think you should modify the AM tuner to accept line in. I did that with my Phillips cd boombox I just removed the Tuner board and added a line input to where the tuner board outputted its audio to the main amp. if you do modify the AM tuner on this stereo please post a video of it if you can I'd love to see. 7:42 made in malaysia. my digicam is made there and its a good one.
I bought my SHARP CD-C612 when I was detailed to Washington, D.C. for 3 years over a decade ago. Since I don't have the manual, I don't remember how to set the channels or any other commands. Can you help me? I love it and previously connected it to my old RCA connectors on my tube TV.
Those mini systems are not all that bad, sure it's no Bang & Olufsen but still acceptable for a bedroom although many of the same people who no longer have a stereo system had an all in one system like this one as their main system. Back then you also had electrical superstores like Currys or ETS where the nice people would test the display systems before you commit to buying one so at least in those days you knew how good your system is before you buy it. I think by that time the cassette decks didn't matter quite so much as by that time most people were buying their stuff on CDs and only used the cassette decks to play back their older pre recorded stuff or mixtapes which was the sole purpose. I'm rather surprised the speakers don't have tweeters but even some music centers came with one way speakers.
Not such a bad system this one, it certainly appears to be better than some of the cheap ones available now. What CD are you playing? Has the AM tuner always been non-functioning since the unit was new? Can you fix that problem? Is this system portable enought to be carried around? Can it use batteries?
I have one which was still playing till yesterday when "PROTECT" just appeared on the led display. It cannot be switched on again. What should I do to rectify it? Please i need help
Well, if the unit cannot load discs, a lens cleaning CD won't do any good as the dusting bristles on such a CD must be moving and the player won't spin up the disc and move the pickup to the bristles if it can't first load it. You'd have to take the unit apart to gain access to the objective lens and clean it manually. What happens with many shelf systems are that the lens can accumulate dust, which prevents them from reading the disc. Of course, there could be other problems, but troubleshooting must start with checking for simple problems first.
My old jvc use to be that way it played a CD and the CD try was open it was a 5 CD changer it was cool I thought it was broken I was like wtf I broke it but it wasn't broken 😂

I’m sad mine just barely stopped working I had the 98 version... it helped my Living Room tv tremendously
My Aiwa speakers are quite similar to those ones. The grills are not removable but you can still get in. They have a similar "super tweeter" and an even cheaper woofer with a plastic frame instead of metal.
I'm surprised something so recent would have a CD player that still works and an AC bias tape deck.

I missed this time
I sold these by the pallet load when I worked at Target in that time period.
We had that stereo in the music room in elementary school. They later replaced it wth another Sharp stereo that had Dolby Prologic II sound but the player on that one broke and always made the CDs skip so the went back to that one.
Oh how I love The Proclaimers, 500 miles is such an awesome song, I grew up with that, I have Sunchine on Leith on CD.
Oldies but goodies !
Great souvenir... 😊😢
Thank you for this video that reminded me of good memories.

That tweeter is not fake. It is a tweeter but a bad excuse for one. It barely does a thing. They are wired up. Take the woofer out and you'll see.
PS, mine came with 2 extra speakers that are tweeters....very cool!
lol I remember stereos like that! Everyone had one.

It looks better than that stupid Aiwa I have. I am amazed that the CD changer on that is still working for over a decade.
Not bad. Still looks very modern for a 12 year old stereo.
I have the model Sharp Mini Component System CD - CS70 also from 1998 I gather yours be a few models up from mine ?
nice stereo i had one when i was in high school i wish i still had it have you try to put a jumper wire on the circuit board so you can have the am again just a thought if you ever plan to get rid of it i will take it

I had one of these. My first stereo, ever!
competition with pioneer A200? XP170C?
My LCD lights up just fine. It all works well.
That's the one I used to own back in Jamaica 🇯🇲 there's no lights on it

my brother had same stereo he just got it early this year it works really great but he does not have remote
I have one which was still playing till yesterday when "PROTECT" just appeared on the led display. It cannot be switched on again. What should I do to rectify it? Please i need help

Hard to believe those were $99 when they were new and now you can them used for like $9 or even free if your lucky.

Good sound quality!!! :D .
Whoa... I have the exact same model!
how's the CD player?
I HAD A BOOKSHELF STEREO SYSTEM AND THE AM RADIO DIAL STOPPED WORKING AND MY BOOKSHELF STEREO SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY IN 2003
A bit old and still great. Newer ones probably aren´t so good for 99$
I have had a number of these different bookshelf systems and the cd player always dies within a year. Put in a disc and will will always say no disc.
Do You smoke?
nope non smoker.

You mean beyond the lens cleaner discs you buy at the store?

Just curious, where do you store all of this equipment you buy?
I don't. A lot of this stuff you see in my older videos has long since been sold or donated.
