I’d love to see vintage GLC decks!
Gym Leader Challenge is one of my favorite formats
So glad it's non rule box...stops it from potentially eating standard like magic commander did..looks fun!!!
I'm sure i'm not the only one who has bought sporadic packs over the years and have a hodgepodge of random crap i'm ready to throw into a Commander-esque deck. Being able to use any card since the start is kinda necessary. We all got at least one booster pack of jungle when we were kids, and if we can't put whatever card we've been keeping safe for the last 20 years in the deck, there's no real point.
Omg PLEASE make vintage GLC decks. I feel like it’ll be similar to that 2000 Japanese Format where you could only use 2 copies of a card with a few limited to 1 like the Haymaker trio and Super Energy Removal.
I'm so glad this is a format. I've been wanting to get back to Pokemon for years, and I love MTG singleton formats (primarily play Cube), so this is perfect for me.
My biggest criticism of GLC is that colorless is it's own type, rather than being splashable like in MTGs Commander so eevee is literally unplayable. I've been toying with the idea of retro GLC format decks for a while myself though, do you have a Card Pool in mind? Base Fossil, up to Neo, Wotc?
Base-Fossil is a bit limited so I was going to start testing with Base-Gym and go from there. Base-Neo and WotC-Block GLC could be totally different decks.
My local league is going to start running this format with tournaments. I'm excited for different and unique format.

I play MTG EDH / Commander. This is right up my alley. Will give it a try.
vintage GLC is hard bec of the limited pokemon resources. but enjoyable since you won't be dealing bonkers big numbers in damage and need to be extra careful of glass cannons that can make or break your comp
me and a couple of buds made a sort of 'homebrew' GLC for vintage but made everything 2of2 with basic pokemon being allowed 4 given that you need them for evolutions. 100 card decks and a race-to-10 points k.o. system.
it's lots of fun and turns into 2 hours of competitive/bonding activity since the format allows for 2 or more players in battle royale setup.
I've played two different types of GLC formats, both were RS-CoL only. It's an interesting format for sure! Excited to see the development on the WOTC-focused GLC format
Depending on the card pool, vintage GLC may just be good stuff.deck for each color.

This is more like a Oathbreaker rather EDH in mtg since it's just 60 cards. I was thinking a 100 card singleton deck including every card in game with a decent and significant banlist. People would love to play old cards with newer cards.
What would it take for this format to be officially recognized? And implemented into their online games etc? Seems impossible
It is officially recognized by TPCi and played at side events. The player base and demand would have to increase drastically for GLC to become a premiere format like Commander has done in Magic. For Pokemon, standard is the only format in high demand at the moment, though I think Expanded could draw a lot of support if they brought it back.

Let's gafmve a format old school: no super V or gx or vx or whatever overpowered Pokemon. Smaller decks, no pkmn: you make your own team of 6 (basic or not, straight on the table) and battle with that one. Limitations aee: some cards have it be banned anyway, and HP is what defines the pkmn you can have in your rooster (eg let's play only 100hp or less today, or up to 150, or only basic pkmn, or only evolved pokemon).
It seems cool but.. why limit it to 60 cards, a huge pool of Pokemon card types and a limit for the sets? I feel like they could've just made it as similar to MTG's Commander as possible and it would've been fine. Oh well.
Last update on the GLC website is November 2022, are there any new bans that are not on the website (yet)?
