I think this version is for kids past the toddler phase b/c of the case. The old case really protects the tablet a lot better. Sometimes kids like to throw them when they get angry and are dropping them. The old case has saved my sons tablet countless times. I’ll get this one for him when he gets a little older
if my kids throw away the tablet in anger he just don´t get it for a month. period.
@@Arkanius1984 my main thing that my parents thought was also weird was the bedtime thing. I mean in my house everyone except for me and my older sister can’t be trusted over night with a tablet in their room. My two year old brother doesn’t count because he keeps his in his room as his time to wake clock. And he’s in a crib so he can’t just climb out and grab it. Everyone else except for the oldest two(my sister(25) and I(19) have to put their tablets in the kitchen. Like what’s the point of the bedtime. More like control your child and help them learn what no means
BTW my sister and I have the regular HD 10. The twelve, 9, and 5 year old have the pro kids and my two year old brother has the kids edition
I bought my fire hd 10 table 2 years and half for 5 years old and I can tell is a 🔥 I went to my country in Africa for 6 months and it worked very very well

I believe that the reasons this one is targeted towards older kids is the difference in the cases and RAM. I have been wanting to get the Fire HD 8 for my son since he was around 7 but felt that the bulky case was “too young” looking for him. It made it look like a baby toy in my opinion. He’s 10 now and we just got him the HD 8 pro and it’s so much more “sophisticated kid” looking. It has a more mature appearance.

I'm an adult grandparent of 3 and I use the kids cover on my fire hd8 because it affords great protection and has the best stand I've been able to find... also like the forward firing speaker setup it has....
Actually, the TH-cam app is capable to being downloaded if you go to the store app and then search TH-cam or yt kids. Thought I should let y’all know because most kids past most time watching videos.

One thing I have always hated is that these tablets never separate the downloaded apps from the browsing apps. It’s all mixed up. Does this separate them?

I bought it for my kid this Christmas. It will be perfect for them. I was messing with it in adult mode at the home screen. Not a huge fan of how much Amazon nerfed the Android OS. I guess if I get a tablet it won't be a fire. I wish we had cases this tough for the iPads at work.
I got them for my children as Christmas presents but I didn't know I had to have 2 accounts with Amazon to get them to work. Then they require my debit card to let me keep going which I decided not to add, I file a return I hope the seller takes them back. Very disappointed

I got 2 of the other version for my 2 children, it wouldn't let me pass after registering unless I put my debit card which I refuse. So lame. Then it is asking for 2 accounts.

Here's what keeps me from buying my kids Amazon tablets vs something like a regular Samsung (that I can use Google play). We travel a lot so we have a ton of purchased digital movies/kid shows. I can add a SD card to the Samsung tablets, download every single thing, and it'll all go to that SD card. That way it's not using internal storage. I haven't found anywhere that explains if the fire tablets are this way. Also, Amazon puts a limit on you with downloads and watch times. I read you can only download 15-25 videos across all devices, this includes purchased content. Not only that, but the free to watch downloaded content is only good for 30 days (prime members) and once you start to watch it you only have 48 hours to finish. I've read all you have to do is reconnect to wifi to reset that 48 hours, but that's silly to me. Other steaming apps don't have these kind of restrictions... Any insight from people with experience would be great.
Your complaints are valid and there are plenty of OTHER PROBLEMS with these little tablets. Not easy to use because the directions are useless for USING the tablet - they have DIAGRAMED the machine to show what connects where, volumn, etc.- things you already know. No guide on where to remove restrictions, how to close or get out of a screen, how to delete an app, Alexa can go jump in the river but there are no directions on how to do that. Most of these "improvements" are better suited to help a disabled person. There should be a guide on how to shut off any of the features or turn them on for disabled customers. I couldn't get out of the screen to choose WiFi - I didn't want to use any WiFi. After 45 minutes, an arrow showed up. Sliding your finger on the screen only works for one thing and getting the arrow to appear so you can use it is impossible. This was for me so I don't need any parental controls, restrictions, time limits, etc. I don't need a membership and don't want one. . . This is a lot like the first Fire that I had - simple, nice size. They took that model, messed it up and said it was for children - it was fine the way it was. Just get a nice tablet that comes with directions for navigating your way through the features, setting it up, etc. I already have a headache. Lazy? you will love this.

The RAM is very low ( 2 to 3 gb) for the kids fire tablets , is that affecting the usage in any way? I am planning the same model for my daughter!

Also, I just realized that with the parental control(s) you not only can teach them how to tell time and the concept of time. You can also teach them time management.

I agree and a lot of non verbal cartoons that are not that educational. It didn't use to be that bad but there are a lot of content that are not necessary.

I’m looking into these but it just seems huge for a kid to lug around. I’m probably going with the 8.
We have 3 kids kindle tablets from various gens. While overall they're fine when working, Amazon developers have made an absolute mess of the OS and freetime or whatever the current name they're calling the kids interface. Also good luck storing anything on the micro SD card. Right now it's useless and nothing can or will download or move to it, despite it being fully recognized as available.

honestly im sold. i have the ipad but the restrictions are a joke on ipad. youtube is a seriously messed up website for kids. my autistic kid always ends up gravitating toward an algorithm that ends up with violent cartoons and creepy crushing videos.
It’s a lot easier to use the Amazon parent potable to do the parent controls.

It’s the same exact tablet except one thing is different with the regular tablet….even though you can still access kids on the normal tablet, with the kids tablet you get that one year of kids content free. With the normal tablet even though they both work the same because you can toggle between the parents side and the kids side of things the normal table will force you to pay the money right away

1 year. After that it’s 69.99 for prime users and 99.99 for non prime. That’s why it shows up as free because when you set it up it starts your one year free of Amazon kids plus. After the one year you have a choice to either cancel and use your own media content for your child(where you pay nothing and you just transfer games from their old tablet(THAT YOU BOUGHT)to their new one… or you can keep on using Amazon kids

I would like to install my children's math app on their new tablet but if I cannot access it don't want to purchase this one. I know you said apps like TH-cam aren't supported but not sure about other apps like our Teaching Textbooks math app.
iOS apps are completely differently developed than droid apps and Amazon apps. I’d say it depends heavily on whether or not the developer created a version for each platform, but… did you ever find an answer to this?

The regular one should be just fine. It has plenty of activities and videos and your grandson will be able to continue to use it as he gets older

We had 2 fire 7s and did not like them. In theory they are great. I love the Amazon kids + and all the parental controls however storage was an issue. Between apps he wanted to add and the ones I wanted to add we ran out of space immediately and they became pointless. We also couldn't get rid of all the preloaded apps on the parents portion which took away from the storage and ability to run smoothly. How is the storage with this tablet. I've been looking at it since it came out and really want to try it but feel apprehensive
Yeah I felt the same way with the fire 7. It got to a point where I was constantly uninstalling apps to make space. These are much better because they have double the starting storage. I definitely don’t have the same storage issues as I did with the 7. It could still be better but it’s definitely an improvement.

I feel so stupid, but honestly I can't figure out how to install any gaming apps onto this tablet! There are no games on it at all. If I go to the settings and access the "Add Content" I get the following selections: Share content, add websites and add Videos from the Web.

Thought maybe someone could help. When we try and read the kids books on the kindle it is portrait mode and very small. Is there a way to get the book to rotate into landscape mode? We are able to rotate the screens for the games. Just not the books
I don’t think you talked about storage does it come with an SD card or does it need one.

Yes but for a single child it's $3 monthly not including tax...I'm not sure if that's just a prime member price but still pretty cheap.

Nothing is overkill of your little boy. Plus you could always use it in adult mode incase you’re other tablets are charging or whatever.

Yes It has all the same content. I have 2 profiles for both my kids, one is younger and one is older and the content is age appropriate for each one. So yes she will get her kid shows
