I know it doesn't pay the bills or anything, but I just want to say thank you for doing what you do. As a former Young Earth Creationist probably ultimately influenced by Hovind myself, what you do and how you do it is extremely important. I wish I had been exposed to the sort of stuff you put out 20+ years ago.
I went to an ACE private Christian school from ~1990 - 2003 before going out of state for Bible college. I've spent a significant portion of my adult life trying to correct the "education"/indoctrination I grew up with. And I'm not sure if anything I was taught was directly from Hovind, but it may as well have been (from the vegetarian dinosaurs to the pseudo-science "medicine" to the homophobia and much more).

I believe TH-cam does this for any videos that delve into subjects that are especially unappealing to advertisers, even if they're legit topics to cover. Advertisers typically don't want their products associated with tough content like this, which is understandable from a commercial perspective. It's far easier for TH-cam to keep all the advertisers away than have to judge each case on its merits, which can't be done through automation.
@@EnglishMike YT doesn't watch the vid, it looks for keywords. If you mention certain words it gets demonetized, even if debunking or teaching people to avoid the bad thing or help them overcome it. Its a very bad system that desperately needs an overhaul.

It's time for people to call for TH-cam to create a clear list. A list of people whose position on certain things is established and their content will reflect that. One qualification should be whether or not content creators correct themselves when they have been corrected. If not, they don't go on a clear list.
The idea is simple, they should do it and they should make it work. Falsely accusing people based on the words alone, the sounds coming out of their mouth, that's unethical.
He'd be comically criminal if it weren't for the real harm he has and continues to do. I sincerely hope there's significant jail time in his future
He lives in a town that has all but let him get away with most of it! The Tax evasion was a federal issue, and they had no say in it, and as far as his little penalty for what he did to his wife, it almost got swept under the table, but too many called them out for it, so they had to do something. Now with MAGA on the rise, and christian nationalists in every court and every level of government it's becoming less and less likely he will ever even be investigated, or ever held responsible.

To add to the Paulogia / Hovind theory: I think him having a religious institution, from the beginning, was to facilitate his sovereign citizen beliefs. He wanted ways to be tax exempt and a compound for all his sketchy friends.

I've followed this case closely. They had a house off DAL property, and their tech guy was using DAL equipment there to make videos. Supposedly some of it was porn. That's the cabin the tech guy took the secretary to and got her drunk. He then filmed her there.

Kent's and Mary Tocco's common-law marriage was legal and has, to my knowledge, never been legally dissolved.
Kent's common-law marriage to Cindi Lincoln was never a legal marriage.
Kent's common-law marriage to Sandra Sawyer is not legal marriage.
Sandra Sawyer has steadfastly refused to document otherwise; perhaps out of fear of proving Kent to be, legally, a "bigamist".

In Texas, common law marriage is legal marriage. My parents had a Texas common law marriage. Mom is now a widow. (There's a long story behind it, but Texas recognizes common law marriage.)

Holy cow, I was in the kitchen when that part of the video played of him talking about his nutrition guy dying, I couldn't entirely hear every word of the video from my kitchen since my computer is in the living room, I said jokingly to myself "I'm sure the government had your nutrition guy whacked for knowing too much".. I came back, set the video back a minute to hear it, omg, he actually did insinuate the government had his nutrition guy whacked lol.
I used to watch Kent's DVD's a million times when I was a kid. I used his argument in highschool with my biology teacher. I lived next to Hails Anderson for 99% of my life. I did want to learn this infection for the longest time, even though I lost my faith. It hurts so much to learn your childhood hero is a monster.
Virtually every adult atheist is a former 'believer' of some kind of religion...whatever their parents and peers coerced them into accepting as a child. Every human is BORN an atheist, obviously, having formed no opinions on ANY subject, much less one as convoluted and controversial as religion.
The upshot is that we adult atheists, having considered the evidence...or more precisely the utter LACK of it... with rare exception know more about the religion we escaped from (and others, too) than those who continue to accept their adopted dogma without evidence or the benefit of critical thinking.
I went to a Lutheran high school, so we watched Hovind videos in religion class. His arguments seemed to make so much sense to me because we didn't learn anything else. We didn't learn anything about evolution in biology class. Finding out that Kent is a wife beater and committed tax fraud was at least in part why I de-converted.

My upbringing was the exact opposite. That is, I was raised by an atheist, never hearing about the Bible until my late teens. Yet, God gave me a conscience. You know that there is a right and a wrong. Why? If there is no God, people are nothing special, we are 'just another life form.' Atheism is another name for 'lawless.'
That is the damnable part for atheists. Unless you make things right with Christ, you will go into eternity without any sort of law. That is, there are torturers in hell. Think about it logically. As you read this, people around the world are being mercilessly tortured. You know in your conscience that such behavior is evil. If there is evil, there is good. If there is good there is a heaven and a hell for evil people. If you have lied or stolen, you will be tried as a lying thief. Jesus said that those in hell WILL be tortured. It's not God's fault! If you defy your conscience, playing the 'atheist's game,' you will stand before God as a guilty sinner. You will wind up in all eternity with other lying thieves!
Yet, Christ died on a Cross so that you can know Him. You can go from being a false Christian faith to genuinely knowing Christ. I hope that you will leave the door open. Christ will not come into your life without your invitation. He won't drag you into heaven by your ears! If you wind up in court, it is too late! You cannot say that I did not warn you. I hope you make things right with God. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

I don't know, but I am more confident in my current beliefs than when I was a Christian. What assurance do you have that you are right? What if Islam is true? Or Buddhism? Or any of the other religions that we have created? Christianity is not special when you compare it to anything else we've come up with.

In my experience as an ex-Christian, I’m constantly catching myself feeling like my experience is separate from these types of people, as if they’re too far outside of the norm for me to consider things like this part of my experience. There is one positive thing I get out of this myself. As hard as it is to say 'positive' myself. And that is that justice is actually being done.

Though I can't pretend to have enjoyed such stomach churning content, sometimes it's better to know the reality.
Some people say power corrupts, I think it's also in part power attracts the corrupt or corruptible. But either way, a religious cult is prime ground for the power scenario. And usually it's worse, because the leader is typically creating that power dynamic, very intentionally.
The one element here that confuses me is Matt Powell. Everybody else in this sordid story is entangled with it long-term in some way - but Powell saw it from the outside and decided to become an intimate part of it. He had to know it would give him ten different kinds of legal exposure - so why did he do it?

TBH, I often skip your videos on Hovind and Ham because I find it hard to stomach even short clips of these charlatans. But I sincerely appreciate the respectful tone that TH-camrs like you bring to conversations about theism, deconversion, OT/NT historical arguments, etc. Yours is one of the only two or three channels that I would feel comfortable directing believer friends or family to if they came to me with questions about theology or deconversion.

I’ve been an observer of Kentles since the ‘80s and the glory days of Cable Access and followed his story in the fine journalism of the San Francisco Chronicle.
He’s always possessed a feral creepiness but even my dark heart and twisted soul did not guess at the putrid, foul, dank depths of his amoral corruption and evil.
DAL has been his obvious redoubt for years. Add to that his love of guns and the zeal of an apocalyptic True Believer makes it appear this will probably not turn out well. I hope as many people leave as possible before another Waco barbecue.

Just want to point out that unless the trial judge did something particularly egregious in applying the law, it is unlikely that his conviction will be overturned on appeal. As it is, he's likely either under house arrest or had his movements curtailed.
A reminder: An appeal is not a retrial, it is a review of the trial judge's application of the law.
And Hovind's overbearing confidence in his own righteousness likely will mean he will go into the courtroom woefully underprepared for the appeal.
@@EnglishMike There's no courtroom appearances in an appeal. It's done entirely via filings and the court record. An appeals court literally can't accept new evidence or testimony, the judgement is entirely based on what was filed and accepted at the trial level.

I don't believe that Eric is a conman. He's been manipulated and lied to from birth by Kent. He is just another victim of Kent's control. He likely has cognitive dissonance in this matter, and I'm sure scammer Kent put some words in his head when he was younger which allows him to reconcile the issue. You can say no true Christian should wear polyester, but the fact many do isn't a reason to doubt their sincerity in what they preach.
Personally I feel that he genuinely believes he is doing good, and is happy that he can earn a ton of money for him and his family by doing it. I believe the that the concept that some of his money is coming from people who can barely afford it isn't ever a thought that occurs, or at least one which isn't suppressed in the same way as religious doubts are supressed.
Obviously I am still open to the possibility that I am wrong here.

Eric seems to be a much, much better person than his father. As far as I know, he has not to perpetuated the violence and abuse his father inflicted on him on his kids, and, in my limited experience with him, he seems try and keep the discourse polite and friendly. When I first encountered Kent Hovind I thought he was a comical figure, bad "dad jokes" and a position that could almost be a parody of the young earth creationist argument. The more I discover about him, the more troubled I am, I think above all it is the lack of empathy that Kent displays, no remorse about the child who died at DAL, no consideration about associating with people who were convicted of abuse (I hardly want to type the actual word) and even the way he seems to exploit the people who work on his site. It's good that you shine the spotlight on this subject.

After all of the Kent Hovind and Matt Powell content I’ve consumed over the last few years, I can’t shake the weird feeling I got the first time I saw Emma Thorne tearing into one of their teacup videos. Someone needs to seriously delve deeper into Kent Hovind’s past. Who were the kids he taught science to? He’s never claimed to have taught at a high school, so I assume he was the science teacher for devout evangelicals that homeschooled their children. How long did he do this? Why did he stop? Was he basically forced to stop coming around someone’s kid? Was Matt Powell one of his students 7+ years ago? When did he first come across Matt Powell, what were the circumstances behind such a meeting and how old was Powell when Hovind sank his claws into him? Something has always seemed off with that duo. Every single video I’ve seen where they team up since the very first Emma Thorne video where she tears into them I can’t shake the weird vibe I get from them. Whether it’s simply two absolute pieces of bigoted shit arrogantly acting so holier than thou while railing against the very core of Jesus’ teachings or something more sinister on Hovind’s part, something ain’t sitting right. That audio recording of Matt clearly dealing with something that boiled over as rage and anger directed at a male member of his church has only made me go further down this hypothetical rabbit hole. That was not the voice of a church pastor dealing with a member of his congregation that had run afoul with the church. There was real, raw emotion in Matt’s shouts. Like the kind of emotions that’d come roaring to the surface when someone has for years pushed “dirty” thoughts deep down again and again, someone that has turned to religion and sinks further into his fundamentalist zealotry hoping he can get god to make it right. The self reflection creating such vitriol aimed towards the very people he desperately wants not to be to the point it’s a raging fire feeding itself. Someone like that would be the kind of confused, scared and isolated kid Kent’s friends would like to meet. Kent has claimed he used to privately teach science. Which I assume means he taught homeschooled kids of evangelicals that wanted nothing to do with their kids learning science. The parent so concerned about their kids they’d leave them with this “teacher” all day while mommy gets a buzz drinking by with the girls for a change. The way he shrugs off molesting children, he at the least has seen plenty of things he should have reported to authorities and at the worst he is just as sick as his so called friends with god only knows how many victims left in his wake. For good people to do evil things, that takes religion, and Kent has been hiding behind Christianity for a very long time.
I don't know about most of the stuff but yes, he's clarified that his "high school science" was homeschooled evangelical kids being taught his YEC, science-denying bullshit. And yes, it's incredibly disturbing realising how much justification he gives for literal CSA and then tries to suggest that teaching evolution is "the real pedophilia". I genuinely hope that nobody lets their kids anywhere NEAR the place again because someone who is that hardcore of an apologist for CSA is dangerous AF.
Regarding Matt Powell, every time I see him I more strongly get the impression that his is the kind of homophobia that's loud because it has something to hide. He seems to think that the deeper he pushes into religious fundamentalism, the more believable his cover will be. That if he can just cozy up to the most extreme religiosity he can find, he'll appear perfectly "normal" to everybody. I can't prove anything, I'm just going on vibes here really, but I give it five years tops before we hear something about it.
A Paulogia and Glenn Fricker crossover was NOT something I would ever expect
The way this came about was really by accident. I was up late, when i saw Glenn was streaming, way Out of my timezone. He did session, where he reviewed send ins from viewers, so i submitted my track. Paul just happened to work in a KH video in the same temporal vicinity, so we decided to use the track and a part of glenns reaction was just a nice post credit scene.

Here is a tip for those in a ministry, in a church, and want to improve the visibility and opinion of their church by the outside world:
Don't try to cover up abuse, sexual harassment or assault, child abuse, and those other harmful issues performed by members of your church. It will come out, and the fact you tried to cover it up and hide this harm from the world will tell others outside your group that you do not care about the well-being of your church members. It will tell everyone that you condone that kind of behavior.
Coming out ahead of it, exposing the crimes, turning in those people to the proper authorities, shows that you are willing to speak truth to power and protect those within your care.
Creationism for Kent is not just the bait and a filter but also a shield to deflect Criticism for his actions.

I've often marveled at the frequent recurrence of child sexual abuse among religious groups, given that they are groups whose expressed values might lead one to think that such behaviors would be rare for them. It makes me wonder if there could be some kind of physiological, neurological link between the mental characteristics that make a person prone to believe in things for which there is absolutely no evidence in ordinary experience or scientific knowledge and the tendency to have sexual obsessions with children. What's the link? There has to be one. It really seems like church groups are just rife with this stuff. Is it sociological or actually something to do with brain architecture or chemistry?
