I can respect Jay-Z for not buckling under the peer pressure and trying to match Eminem's flow. Instead he chose to rap on the track the way he wanted to.

This line is iconic because it’s so accurate to the actual hip hop audience. “Say that I’m foolish. I only talk about jewels? Do you fool listen to music or do you just skim through it?” He mentions jewels a few times and everybody jumps on him about it. And hip hop has ALWAYS done this. Like with the Logic biracial stuff lol yeah, it was funny, but it wasn’t true. He had 1 album where he brought it up. He didn’t mention his race at all on his first two albums, and then he has 3 or 4 songs (I don’t remember without going and looking through the lyrics) on the Everybody album where he has like 1 or 2 lines dedicated to mentioning his race. So in total of 3 albums, he mentioned his race 3 or 4 times tops. And people acted like it was all he talked about. But that’s just one example. People do this for every single rapper. Everybody raps too much about something to everybody. Which is so stupid because if you actually listened to the music, you would know that they DONT only rap about these certain topics lol this is why I love this line by Jay. He hit the nail on the head with, “or do you just skim through it.” Like actually. People skim through it wait to hear him talking about some jewels, and are quick to jump on his case about it haha but it’s not like the people complaining about rappers talking too much about certain topics are ACTUALLY listening to the music. They’re always the people who have heard a couple songs from them or their friend told them that he always talks about (fill in the blank).
That Nas line is not Valid. It was never Jay-Z song, it was a Em record on Jay album. Em sounded better by default, was at home with the beat. So he sounded better. Jay seemed to be finding his way through it.

It's the other way round dude... Dead Wrong is from 1999... Royce even talks about it in an interview. You should do some research before acusing a GOAT of biting... Especially a GOAT like Eminem who made an entire album (Infinite, 1996) complaining about biters. Royce's style is heavily influenced by Eminem and not the other way round. He was even discovered by Em... There's a reason why Eminem is considered by his peers as one of the greatest of all times while Royce is not in the conversation...
Big I/ did it multi before I die/ no lie/I chose my own fate/ I drove by the fork in the road and went straight/ I love how Jay referred back to his lyrics from Young G's. Also, when I hear it, it sounds like Jay is having a personal talk with Big because he promised Big that he was going to be multi before he die.
It was either “Rock City” w/Em on the hook or Renegade. Royce’s label at the time would only allow him one feature w/Em on the album. Pretty shitty deal IMO. When Em had a song for Jay due (it was 2002 he was on a time crunch with TES, 8 Mile, 50 Cent, etc) he phoned in Royce to ask if he could use Renegade.
stevieb274 yeah I know Blueprint came out 2001 what a year remember trying to pirate it myself. But still relatively the same timeframe. Filming would’ve started in 2000-01. Around that time was the aftermath of MMLP, a D12 album, some lawsuits. Honestly it sounds like Em pushed Renegade out as a last minute effort.
stevieb274 yah, my point exactly. Remember Rock City, Royce’s album to which Renegade was supposed to be on was released in 2002, a year after Blueprint. So still the same busy time crunch. IMO Em could’ve changed his verse or tried to adopt more to Jay Zs if he had more time on his hands, but he didn’t so he threw Renegade at him w/out Royce’s verse, hopefully w/Royce’s consent.
Royce verse was heat too on that he is phenomenal man one of the most slept on ever both crook and Royce two of my favorites ever and they don’t get there respect Royce the only one that really has out spit em on tracks and on bad meets evil he had numerous verse I preferred over ems which is extremely rare on a colab

You sound like a person with a problem speaking out loud trying to convince themselves they don’t have a problem. If Eminem wasn’t on that song it would be a good Jay z song. Eminem verses made that song next level. Not even close let’s be real
@Mickey Mouth You're entitled to your opinion but Em and Royce are best friends. They have gone at one another back in the day, but he definitely has never d*ck rode him as you say or fawned over him. Point blank, what Eminem does, he does it better than 99 percent of rappers out here can do it. He's nice and has always been nice.

1st... Royce is fuckin fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥 2nd... Renegade is a great song, and Jay & Em are hell in their on right
This is like one of the most unanimous opinions, as far as Hip-Hop goes. Eminem killed that joint and nobody denies it
Yeah they're just trying to be as respectful as possible to Jay lmao Em murdered him hard
I’m denying it
They were both great but I relate to Jays verses more
Big I/ did it multi before I die/ no lie/I chose my own fate/ I drove by the fork in the road and went straight/ I love how Jay referred back to his lyrics from Young G's. Also, when I hear it, it sounds like Jay is having a personal talk with Big because he promised Big that he was going to be multi before he die.
Dang it really would’ve been criminal if they left Royce in ‘Renegade’ with no Jay-Z... no disrespect
Selene Graham wrong definitely wasn’t 2002. It was 2001 and jay was on a deadline for his album, so Eminem grabbed that song to give to jay
stevieb274 yeah I know Blueprint came out 2001 what a year remember trying to pirate it myself. But still relatively the same timeframe. Filming would’ve started in 2000-01. Around that time was the aftermath of MMLP, a D12 album, some lawsuits. Honestly it sounds like Em pushed Renegade out as a last minute effort.
Selene Graham renegade was already made, and Eminem said that jay was basically at a deadline for his album, so he gave him renegade
stevieb274 yah, my point exactly.
This title is a STRETTTCHHH 🤣😂 Royce prefaced by sayin the song wasn't a competition for him but if he has to give a answer he liked the way em attacked the song , hahha
I feel the same Em's approach to the song overall just fit the song better to me. Jay was obv great and a lot of gems but I think it was just an Em track
Em sounded way better but I felt Jay way more!!!!! And was also Em’s song which is why he was more in pocket than Jay!!!!!
You sound like a person with a problem speaking out loud trying to convince themselves they don’t have a problem. If Eminem wasn’t on that song it would be a good Jay z song. Eminem verses made that song next level. Not even close let’s be real
Love Royce!!!
Royce's version of Renegade is my personal favorite. It should've been on the Rock City album.
They need an album together Royce and Crooked
Damn all of these old rappers are no hosts of some kind.
You can find Royce's version online and they are dope af
What a surprise! One of Eminems best friends thinks his boss had the best verse. Would never have seen that coming.
Renagade was 🔥 especially in da shotta flick
Eminem didn’t kill Jay on his own song. It was Em’s song on Jay’s album
I play Renegade often, cause it describes me, as I am truly authentic.
Em, floated on that.
Listen to the lyrics.
Be impartial and listen.
EMINEM!
Eminem had a way better verse than Jay, it's deeper too people don't realize it
If you don’t think hov shit was just as deep you bugging
I’ll put this on my blog and ask you to weigh in.
Same song royce was just replaced with Jay go listen Jay couldn't out rap a old verse by em.....
Em didnthe something to 2 chainz.....took him off the song, then em redid his verse and made the original song a remix.....so em couldn't out rap 2 chains
In Black America Radio the outcome is the same...Em killed Jay and that’s that..
@@daskyizmalimit and 2chainz killed Em....and that's that
daskyizmalimit not true
In Black America Radio respect your opinion but, we’re talking about chloraseptic right?
We need to hear a mix with Royce's verse added
