Messi is my goat but my club won so I had a mixed feeling on that day.

Watch the first leg.. Messi did a 35 yard free kick at the the age of 32 in 2019.. The commentators were saying he's a God of the game The God of the game
The reason why origi (the goal scorer) was wide open is because Trent Alexander-Arnorld (number 66) walked away as if he was going to let someone else take the corner so everyone on Barcelona wanted to use that time to just make sure everyone is in the right place to defend. But then Trent noticed Origi wide open, and the rest is history….
When you remember that this was when away goals were tiebreakers you can imagine the stress of watching this game live. Barca scoring only once already meant they would have to score at least five, and they have only 90 minutes to do it in since they couldn't tie anymore(3-3). It was always horrible to lose on away goals(PSV vs AC Milan in 2005 is still a scar), but man did it make every second of a game a small heart attack. And yes, CL games have world cup atmosphere since a champions league final is basically the biggest game of the year, excluding world cup years.
Liverpool has made even more amazing comebacks like the ones with Dortmund and Milan. This stadium can perform miracles. That's why it's known like one of the best atmospheres in europe.
I'm in my late 50s and ben lucky enough to attend many amazing sporting events. I'm also a Liverpool fan and been to loads of finals. Nothing..... NOTHING compares to the atmosphere at Anfield the night we beat Barcelona 4-0. I live in SF and hadn't been home for over a year. I've been to Derbies and big games against Man U and others. The crowd that night was electric even before the game! The atmosphere was electric downtown and all the way to the ground. The pubs were buzzing! Simply the best sporting event I've ever experienced. Still gives me goosebumps. I missed Istanbul and maybe that was better? YNWA
The last goal is the infamous ‘Corner taken quickly, Origi!’. Basically it was a corner and the ball boys were instructed to get the ball to the players as quick as possible due to the fact that Barcelona had a habit of slowing down (moaning to the ref) after every decision. In that moment Trent Alexander Arnold got the ball ready and as he was doing it Shaqiri was walking towards him you could see that many Barca and Liverpool players weren’t paying attention. Origi on the other hand was watching Trent and when he realised Trent went for the quick corner he let instinct take over and kicked it perfectly into the top right corner. Amazing thinking and technique.
for me, the best game of the decade was Liverpool and Arsenal. This game ended 5-5 with penalties in the end. All the goals scored in that game were bangers.
This was a game Arsenal played a relatively strong side and we had a near fully rotated side. Arsenal should have had that game won before full time. Entertaining? Yes. Best game of the decade? No, it was a run out for our youth and squad players who somehow got the win.
@@joewood99 I remember that game because I was driving home and listening to it on the radio. Just before kick off the traffic ground to a halt on the A1 and we literally didn't move again until pretty much the moment the final penalty was kicked. Should have been incredibly frustrating, but the game was so good the commentary kept me entertained the whole time.
7:59 Barcelona were definitely surprised by the fast corner. It's not something you see a lot even though we see fast throw ins and free kicks all the time.
At the point that this happened. Barcelona was one of the best teams in the world. At their home pitch they wrecked Liverpool 3-0. After that game no one thought that maybe the best team in the world (Barcelona), could lose. It was impossible. Do not forget that this is a champions league semi final. The biggest stage in the world. When your team is down 3 goals it should no be possible to comeback. Also the second and third Liverpool goal was in a span of 2 minutes. This made it extraordinary. The last Liverpool goal, was a fast corner trick. No one watched the ball except Liverpool’s striker and corner taker. Therefore he took the corner quickly and out played the whole Barcelona defense. ❤
One of my favourite things about football is these kind of amazing comebacks happened all the time, at all levels. There have been some amazing comebacks in the lower leagues in England. A personal one, Aston Villa vs. Sheffield United in England 2nd tier, Sheffield United were 3-0 up. Then Villa scored in the 87th, 90th and 90+4 minutes to make it 3-3. And that point for the draw was important in securing a place in the promotion playoffs. Which they then won, and are still to this day a Premier League team. th-cam.com/video/f0oPwnSVJcY/w-d-xo.html That one isn't all that big in the scheme of things, but it's memorable to me because I was there, behind the goal. And I broke my toe celebrating Aston Villa's equaliser lmao
You gotta watch Liverpool's Comeback in the champions league final of 2005 where they beated AC Milan who were undoubtedly the definition of an all Star team in that era. It's called The Miracle Of Istanbul
Now you should watch the other side of this story; ''The Tragedy of FC Messi'' by Magical Messi. Liverpool's comeback was astounding, no doubt, but were helped tremendously by Barcelona themselves. From what you've heard, Barca were one of the best teams in recent history and played some of the best football ever seen. However in later years they suffered from corruption and a multitude of problems from within the club, which ultimately was the reason of Messi's departure after 20 yrs at the club. Barca are building themselves back slowly but surely now again though, but the video shows how much Messi carried an otherwise broken team, physically and especially mentally.
Was lucky enough to be there , In the Kop, that night . My auto cup ticket was block 203 for that season. One of the best football nights of my life. Then topped off to be at the final to see the trophy lifted !
From a Dutch NFL fan.....I know how you feel being the rarity who appreciates a "foreign" game. Both are awesome in their own ways. Just watched the biggest comeback in history last night. CL is definitely something to watch esp when the knockouts start.
The reason they call alisson by his first name most of the times, instead of “becker” is because brazilians are usually called by their first names. Same goes to neymar, antony, ronaldinho back in the days, etc
i don't know why it makes me so happy, but seeing an American oggle at our boys in red and the noise we make supporting them. the greatest club to ever grace the field!
I remember watching the game that night. Was something in the air. Could just feel the win was coming. Liverpool are the comeback kings, especially in champions league. Most decorated English club.
The weird thing was though, that we should not have been 3-0 down. We played SO well in the first leg, and I actually did say, dont write us off. Although I never expected to turn it around obviously. What a night
It’s only offside of the player is in an offside position when the pass is made, once the ball leaves the players foot the attacker can get in behind the last man
The World Cup wishes it had this kind of atmosphere. I remember I had an important in office meeting that day and I missed most of the game. I was getting updates on my phone and trying to contain my excitement during the meeting. I tried to get the meeting wrapped up as quickly as possible. When I left work it was 1-0 and then as I was leaving the building it was 2-0. While driving home it was then 3-0 and I got in front of my TV just in time for watch the 4th. What an amazing match, what a brilliant come back.
lol the argentine and morrocco world cup games dwarf the atmosphere of anfield barring the goals anfield is pretty much a library and the same can be said for all premier league atmospheres english atmospheres are some the most quiet and sterile compared to mainland europe and south american teams
@@madaxwayne The World Cup atmosphere is stinks. The club level is where it's at. I said nothing of other leagues, simply comparing club level to international footy. And if you think Anfield is a library, you haven't been there on a European night. And when you look at South American clubs, you're basically noting the top clubs in those leagues. The middle to bottom of their leagues are quite bland as well.
It was unbelievable, the last goal was a bluff of some kind by Trent, he made barca team think he wasn't going to take the corner and as they all stopped paying attention he snapped back around and manoeuvred his foot to take it quickly, effectively and covertly to the point that it was only Trent (the corner taker) and Origi (the last goal scorer) who were even aware the ball was back in play. A game that was Ultimately aspirational and fair competition that really does represent the Liverpool spirit of freedom, hard work and teamwork. YNWA
Feel like the context that needs to be added to this is that we had 3 or 4 of our regular starting XI injured going into a 2nd leg 3-0 down. Andy Robbo took a knock in the first half and 35 year old CM Milner played LB for the second half.
Throughour the night Alexander arnold and someone else i cant remember kept alternating who took the corners. So when trent walked off the barca defence dropped their guard. Leading to thag last goal
Luke: The real excitement and tear inducing moment by the Anfield faithful (and I am a Newcastle supporter) is the stadium singing their epic anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone" at the end of the game, with the entire Liverpool squad (Players, Coaches, Support Staff, Trainers) linking arms, swaying to the sound and singing it right back. I watched this game live on tv and it is among my top 10 sports moments in life!
I do miss Origi, what a player AC Milan has! Barcelona at the time had Suarez and Coutinho and they were and are former Liverpool players too. I’m upset you didn’t get to her the commentators say on Alexander-Arnold’s corner to Origi for the fourth goal “CORNER TAKEN QUICKLY” I was looking forward to hearing that again.
It’s great to see you reacting to this and getting into football but in future I would suggest researching the clips you are reacting to because it would of added so much information that is crucial to the story. For instance we were missing our best two forwards and were playing against two of our previous best forwards and the quick thinking of Trent was absolutely geniuse.
4:17 About the offside, if you pause the vídeo just when the point of view changes, that's the moment of the pass. If you are offside when the pass begins, you are offside, but in this case one defender is not in line with the rest and makes his possition legal, and he even makes it worse because he tries to go in position to late and leaves the stricker alone. You only need to be in legal position when your partner kicks the ball. A lot of teams play like this, whit fast strickers, very good passing midfielders and playing very defensive. Then they wait until they steal the ball to try and catch the rival unprepared to make the run to defend their goal.
You'd said Messi was having a bad game but if you watch full length football matches regularly, those shots that he missed were actually very good attempts. They're only wide by a yard or so. Ofcourse a miss is a miss, but like I said if you watch games you'll see 5-10 off target shots that are miles wide/over.
What I like/find slightly humorous about this as a reaction, given the magnitude of this comeback, the odds against it and the media circus that heckled Klopp beyond belief for not ruling us out of the ties between the games (with the injuries we had), is the reaction was so neutral throughout. At no point was there a forced engagement with the video (like most reaction channels) and I can't tell given just how big this game was if that's you character or just that maybe it wasn't fully described to you. In the week between the two games Klopp said (paraphrasing) "once the Anfield crowd get going, who knows" when asked if we are already out and the Barca players and coaches were talking a LOT of shit about us not being on their level. There's a documentary/docu-series with Barca that takes you into their changies at half time and you've got players fighting, a couple of them crying and generally looking defeated despite still having a 2-goal lead, that's how impactful our fans were on that game that night, they'd lost before the contest started. And it's a shame the footage you watched didn't have the famous "Corner taken quickly, ORIGIIIIIIII" line in there for our 4th. Suggestion for a future reaction: 2005 Champions League final. Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan. Arguably the greatest football comeback given all the extra factors. We barely made it out of the group to get into the knockouts, then we should have lost when Gudjonssen missed a late open goal before getting to the final. Then, the final itself had our team which was lucky to be there and had lost stars such as Ballon D'Or holder Michael Owen going into that season coming up against what was basically an All-Star style XI of the some of the world's best footballers at the time: Cafu, Stam, Nesta, Maldini, Pirlo, Seedorf, Gattuso, Kaka, Shevchenko, Crespo (that was trying to pick out the world class players but ended up with 10 of their starting XI). AC Milan were 3-0 up at half time, from people I know family/friends etc who were there, our fans kind of went one of two ways: some left on the spot, others knuckled down and showed appreciation that we had somehow got to the final. And as they say, the rest... is history. 🎶We've won it five times, We've won it five times, in Istanbul, WE WON IT FIVE TIMES🎶
Origi is a Liverpool club legend. He’s left but still loved by the fans. He also paid the city back by giving scholarships to a few local youngsters to attend Liverpool University
No one (including me) believed we could overcome that. No Mo Salah, No Bobby Firmino. Playing one of the best sides on the planet down by 3 goals. I saw it live and several times since. It still get's me in the feels every time. The greatest match I have ever watched. Up the Reds
I was so excited to get home from work to see this reaction!! Thank you! You definitely should check out Allison. If it wasn't for our mediocre midfield play this season I believe he'd be setting world records. Best in the world. I'm kind of disappointed with this perspective. The fourth goal was a highschool-american football-style trick play. They acted like they were still setting up and took the kick early so no one was ready.
That edit did the last goal no justice, just search origi goal v Barcelona and see the genius of Trent, he puts the ball down and pretends to walk away to let someone else take it, the defenders switch off and he spins and just plays a superb ball, great finish by origi too
I've been fortunate to be a fan aof a number of teams that won from comebacks, Red Sox 04, Patriots Superbowl, and Liverpool vs Barcelona. I started supporting Liverpool in like 2012 or so and watched through a few rough years but worth the wait.
I’ll never forget the look on Messi’s face after the score was tied. It was a look of sheer horror, history repeating, and he knew there was nothing he could do to stop what was inevitable.
You will Never Walk Alone ❤️❤️❤️. Comeback kings of UCL. They even did it without Mo Salah (our best striker) on the pitch. Also please check out the Istanbul comeback by Liverpool in 2005 champions league final.
@@mmbmashup7048 I'd disagree. Madrid are clearly the unrivalled Kings of Champions League/European Cup football (even if you want to dispute their success around the earlier years with the likes of Puskas winning it where the competition didn't feature all of Europe). But I can only think of one comeback (vs Man City last year) because they're almost always the dominant side.
@@mmbmashup7048 think you've misunderstood my point. I was saying I don't see Madrid as the "comeback kings" of the champions league because they're simply the best there has ever been even if you drop their first 5/6 out of the tally (which would be disingenuous regardless because they still had to turn up and win it. Therefore, calling them a "comeback" side is almost disrespectful to the success they have had. Compared to us, still one of the most successful sides in the competitions history, 3 of our 6 wins required a major comeback along the way (St Etienne to lift number 1, Istanbul for 5 and this one for the 6th). Its not minimising our success to say we've been dependent on many comebacks in the way it would be to Madrid.

Liverpool was one of the Clubs, that struggled the most with empty stadiums during the pandemic, since their style heavily relies on atmosphere on and off the pitch, so even the best clubs struggle in a packed and fired up anfield road stadium.
Regarding the close offside calls: so one thing you need to remember is that in offside situations (most of the time) the attacker is running toward the opposition goal while the defender is moving in the opposite direction trying to catch the attacker offside. This means that there can often be quite a big gap between them when the ball has only travelled a few centimetres forward. With this highlight package you're not really getting any replays but if you were you would see that actually the calls are not even as close as you thought they were. After a while you get a sense for it bud, hope you're watching plenty of full games to get ready for the premier league starting back up on the 26th :D
Wijnaldum was on the bench in the first half, he came on and scored straight away and then gets another one. that last one from Origi was just so special as well. the reason being the ball boy handing Arnold the ball, he reacted very quickly. it was a corner kick, the Barcelona players weren't ready and Arnold just kicked it right away seeing Origi was free. Salah was injured for this match, which is the reason Origi played. Origi also scored in the final after this. you should watch the 04/05 final between Liverpool and AC Milan, that one is also epic.

The Dortmund game was just bonkers honestly. Even if it was only the Europa league xD
How these extensive highlights cut off the 5 seconds before Trent’s corner is shocking
One of the best games in European football. The way Barcelona capitulated at Liverpool is just epic!
The fact that the other semi-final for the 2019 Champion's league had a similarly insane comeback (Tottenham vs Ajax) makes it another must-watch.
YNWA
the most epic comeback is the 2005 champions league final
I was at the top of the main stand for this one! What an atmosphere! I would have loved to have heard it from the pitch.
Now you have watched this, watch the players and fans singing You'll never walk alone afterwards - it's so emotional
in terms of craziness, both legs of last year's semi finals between Man City and Real Madrid are also up there if you want to check it out
The atmosphere at a Champions league game in the latter stages of the competition far outweighs a World Cup game.
Which they then won, and are still to this day a Premier League team. th-cam.com/video/f0oPwnSVJcY/w-d-xo.html
That one isn't all that big in the scheme of things, but it's memorable to me because I was there, behind the goal. And I broke my toe celebrating Aston Villa's equaliser lmao
Deeney , not as great a comeback , but one of the best football moments i ever saw
The personal one's mean more.
I just love the fact that i was there to experience this and hopefully many more to come.
You gotta watch Liverpool's Comeback in the champions league final of 2005 where they beated
AC Milan who were undoubtedly the definition of an all Star team in that era. It's called The Miracle Of Istanbul
This is the start of realizing that football without origi is nothing.
😂
I recommend you to watch last season champion. Full of comebacks (Bernabéu magic haha)
I'm so lucky to be able to witness both the Istanbul's and this one live.
i don't know why it makes me so happy, but seeing an American oggle at our boys in red and the noise we make supporting them. the greatest club to ever grace the field!
I remember watching the game that night. Was something in the air. Could just feel the win was coming.
Liverpool are the comeback kings, especially in champions league. Most decorated English club.
That's not a Champion's League atmosphere. That's Anfield!
As a Liverpool fan I believe this is one of the greatest feats I’m ever gonna see in my lifetime
The weird thing was though, that we should not have been 3-0 down. We played SO well in the first leg, and I actually did say, dont write us off. Although I never expected to turn it around obviously. What a night
That game broke my heart 💔😟
It’s only offside of the player is in an offside position when the pass is made, once the ball leaves the players foot the attacker can get in behind the last man
The World Cup wishes it had this kind of atmosphere. I remember I had an important in office meeting that day and I missed most of the game. I was getting updates on my phone and trying to contain my excitement during the meeting. I tried to get the meeting wrapped up as quickly as possible. When I left work it was 1-0 and then as I was leaving the building it was 2-0. While driving home it was then 3-0 and I got in front of my TV just in time for watch the 4th. What an amazing match, what a brilliant come back.
lol
the argentine and morrocco world cup games dwarf the atmosphere of anfield
barring the goals anfield is pretty much a library and the same can be said for all premier league atmospheres
english atmospheres are some the most quiet and sterile compared to mainland europe and south american teams
10:11 sometimes they say liverpool have 12 men because of how electric the crowd is at Andfield
You should really watch the "2011 UCL semifinal and final"
And you should watch the "el classico in 2010"
It was unbelievable, the last goal was a bluff of some kind by Trent, he made barca team think he wasn't going to take the corner and as they all stopped paying attention he snapped back around and manoeuvred his foot to take it quickly, effectively and covertly to the point that it was only Trent (the corner taker) and Origi (the last goal scorer) who were even aware the ball was back in play. A game that was Ultimately aspirational and fair competition that really does represent the Liverpool spirit of freedom, hard work and teamwork. YNWA
Origi, Wijnaldem, Coutinho, and yes, the little vampire will always have a place in our hearts.
The atmosphere is anfield. It's special
The atmosphere was electric x
Oh man what a game i still remember it. I’m a Madrid fan so this was exquisite
There is no better atmosphere than at Anfield its awesome and spine jangling
Champions League is basically the World Cup for European football clubs.
I was at home watching this on TV... What a game!!! Trents corner though 😂😂😂
I'm sorry but real madrid are kings of comebacks in ucl
@@mmbmashup7048 I'd disagree. Madrid are clearly the unrivalled Kings of Champions League/European Cup football (even if you want to dispute their success around the earlier years with the likes of Puskas winning it where the competition didn't feature all of Europe). But I can only think of one comeback (vs Man City last year) because they're almost always the dominant side.
@@joewood99 even if you remove the older ucl cups real madrid is still the kings with 8 ucl so either way they are the most titled
@@joewood99 Only last UCL edition was comeback after comeback PSG, Chelsea, City in 3 minutes from 3-5 to 6-5, our 10th title in lisboa against Atletico was a HUGE comeback with Ramos Goal in 92:48, If there is one team that's all about comebacks thats Real Madrid hands down, never give up.
Liverpool was one of the Clubs, that struggled the most with empty stadiums during the pandemic, since their style heavily relies on atmosphere on and off the pitch, so even the best clubs struggle in a packed and fired up anfield road stadium.
I worked in Cincinatti for a few years and was introduced to American football. I watched my beloved Bengels go an entire season without a win 🤣
Anfeild is truly amazing atmosphere on European nights I say best in world
I hope you watched the World Cup final,
Now that was one epic match!
Had everything
I was there! Best night of my life!! Even better than the final!
one of the greatest corners ever taken... barcelona switched off when Trent looked like he was walkinga away from taking the corner..
Salah injured wore a black T Shirt with “NEVER GIVE UP” in white letters on it.
He’s our lucky star; Our Egyptian King 👑 We all bought one the following week
I still have, and wear mine 🙂🙏🏼xx
Was at this game and I still get chills. YNWA
I was there that night.. It was the best atmosphere I've experienced, so so loud. YNWA
YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE
Liverpool actually have the 2 greatest comebacks in the sport!
5’9 Wjindaldum jumps over 6’4 Pique for that header, breathless
Liverpool are probably the most famous team in the world when it comes to making comebacks. They embody the "never say die" attitude and it's brought them so much success.
