Great podcast, really enjoyed this, milling is one of my favorite parts of making being a part of the whole process beginning to end and control cuts, hopefully one day I'll be as cool as Brenon and get my tool cabinet in finewoodworking some day 😄🤞
Between the different kinds of species of trees, do they dry about the same amount of time til they are dry enough to use? For speed of drying would you say a kiln dries faster or air dry? What's the best process?
Kiln drying is much faster. The solar kiln can dry some stuff in about 5 weeks vs a year or more. Different species had safe drying rates. If you go too fast you will get defects. Oak for instance needs to be dried much slower than say cherry or walnut.
Well, I wanted to for years. The world shutting down, and a friend giving me an awesome Walnut tree finally pushed me over to do it. I wish I built it 10 years ago….of course I’d be out of room from all the lumber😂
Great podcast and great job everyone!!
Thanks Sieng🕺
Excellent discussion, these guys know wood!
Thanks!
Enjoyed the podcast.
Yay!!! My Friday’s must-have podcast!!!

I had no idea that all of this went on in wood working
Buying lumber is much easier and less work 😂

What finally motivated you to build a solar kiln?
