Rebecca Asoulin has been playing the flute since third grade. She has been a member of the Samohi Orchestras and Bands for her entire high school career. She has marched in the London New Year's Day parade with the Viking Marching Band and traveled to Washington, D.C., with the Symphony Orchestra. She has received Command Performances at SCSBOA Solo and Small Ensemble Festivals for all four years of high school. She is also the managing editor of the school newspaper and is in several campus organizations. She would like to thank her private teacher, Jennifer Roth, for her inspiration and endless patience. She would also like to thank Joni Swenson and Jason Aiello for welcoming her into a program that became an invaluable part of her high school experience. She thanks her mother, brothers, grandparents and puppy Sherlock for all their kindness, support and cuteness.
"Carnaval de Venise" pour flute et orchestre a cordes, by Paul Agricole Génin,

Génin, born in Avignon, France, in 1832, established himself as a flautist in Paris, where he was a principal player at the Théâtre-Italien and in the Orchestre Colonne. In addition to writing many works for the flute (he wrote more than 60), he was also one of the first composers to write for the saxophone. Something of Génin's own technical mastery may be heard in his "Carnaval de Venise," a French Romantic showpiece. The piece consists of several variations on the "Carnaval de Venise," a folk tune popularly associated with the words "My hat, it has three corners."
