    Liked your lesson, I’m always mixing these two irregular verbs up. Also not, when viewing your viewing directly from HelloTalk, I don’t believe TH-cam is counting the views and you can’t provide a thumbs up. All this must be done by using the OPEN app option at the top of the screen; just FYI.

    Why is Ser used with time when time is very temporary? It seems to be random. Why are there two verbs instead of one? What would happen if I only used Estar? Thanks. I’ve been studying for almost 8 years now and I’ve visited Brazil 18 times but I still can’t converse or read and I have to translate everything into English to understand. I study and practice every day. I watch movies and TH-cam videos and have classes and read and use apps. I’ve been practicing every day with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese and we’ve been doing it for almost 5 years now. How can I learn to read and converse without translating? Thanks

    • @PlainPortuguese
      @PlainPortuguese  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Olá, tudo bem?
      Languages are different. In English it is possible to say 'at the airport' or 'in the airport', but in Portuguese there is only one option to that which is 'no aeroporto'. Why is that? Different perspectives? Different concepts? I don't have the answer to that.
      Learning a new language is a real challenge! As I can see from your comment, you are doing your best. Don't give up. In order to understand better spoken Portuguese (or any other language), I suggest that you listen to songs, watch some TH-cam channels with content in Portuguese, and try to simply repeat what you hear...without translating word for word. It is important to get accustomed to how the language sounds first!

    • @patfromamboy
      @patfromamboy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlainPortuguese thanks, I already do those things but I can’t understand what people are saying. I can’t tell when one word ends and the next word begins. I practice every day with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese and we’ve been practicing for almost 5 years now. My ex girlfriend only spoke English with me because I didn’t understand her when she spoke Portuguese. It’s been very frustrating because after almost 8 years of studying I still haven’t had a single conversation because I can’t understand what people are saying. I can’t read either because I have to translate everything into English to understand. Thanks!

      Como um local (uma Igreja ou uma escola) é um espaço fixo usamos o verbo ser. É diferente de objetos, como uma cadeira, com os quais se usa o verbo estar.
      É por isso que se diz "a lavanderia é nos fundos da casa" e "a bicicleta está na lavanderia".
      Só estou apontando este uso em português porque, se não estou enganado, usa-se o verbo estar para lugares em espanhol. Um estrangeiro que já saiba o espanhol pode cometer o erro de achar que os usos em ambas as línguas correspondam sempre, o que não é o caso.

    Oi, professora, gostei muito do seu vídeo; qto as considerações: 1 - estamos falando do Brasil, onde a maioria da população é negra; logo, seria interessante que estivesse representada nas imagens que cita. 2 - Entendo a escolha da línguagem informal falada (o objetivo do vídeo); mas, na conjugação verbal, talvez, fosse importante citar a segunda pessoa do singular e plural, não ?!
