- Steffi Graf, Composure & Humor under Pressure. As champions go, Steffi was perhaps one of the most graceful and honorable under pressure. She seldom challenged calls. If she did, her complaints went no further than asking the umpire, Are you sure? Then, she would stare, nod, take a towel, and resume play. One broadcaster once opined that her reluctance to question calls and her ability to accept bad calls were the signs of a very a strict upbringing. Perhaps, he was right. We'll never know. Whatever the case, it is a testament to her brilliant character that she never let a bad call get in the way of winning or losing gracefully. WTA Championships 1998

Was this before or after Monica got stabbed? I know she made one come back but then went into a bad depression. I love Steffi though.
They were both amazing players and both WONDERFUL people. They were both incredibly graceful winners and losers. Miss them both. The immovable object vs. the irresistible force.

That's why these two are still the toughest titans to walk on a court. They didn't let themselves lose focus on a bad call. They'd suck it up and get on to crushing their opponent on the next point. Both were SO amazing!!

I think a lot of Steffi's reluctance to make a big deal about line calls came from her impatience just to get on with the next point.

Seles movement was just terrible. She wasn't fit enough to challenge Steffi. She could do wonders when she reached the ball with time, but her poor movement didn't allow her time to get into position and hit those awesome groundies.

Why the WTA make the awful decision of stop holding their year end championship at Madison Square Garden? They followed the money trail to the Middle East and left the biggest spotlight possible for the women tour.

Serena? I cannot think of a less worthy Champion ever in women's tennis, and I watched female-tennis live since Wimbledon 82! Sorry, but I guess anyone who wins something automatically has fans creaping around. I am sure 13 years after her departure noone will talk about Williams any more, the complete opposite to Stefanie Graf.
