Thank you very much for this video. It made the sevice of my Cabo 60 easy. I love this reel. My work horse for fishing in Norway halibut and cod. No troubles with this real. Compared to my Daiwas / Shimanos a simple, solid constructed reel worth every cent spent years ago. I was time to say thank you giving the service showed in your vid. regards from Germany
Glad it helped and thanks for the note from Germany. I am always amazed by the reach of my channels and the friends I have made worldwide - Best wishes = Dennis
I am actually learning something from these episodes of Reel Repair. I took apart and successfully pur back together my first reel . Well it was a Zebco but still I'm proud of myself . Tks Dennis !
Well Dennis. You’re doing one of my most disliked spinning ever. It did not las 4 years. Honestly if I owned now what happened to it would not have happened because I take much better care of my reels now than I did back then. My Cabo is an older model than this one but while worked it was really something. It had no AR clutch but an old style AR with an override. The bearings in my Quantum were absolutely awful and that was the issue. The were all seized, rusty, and impossible to remove. After that I wanted nothing more to do with it. Also my reel was all metal like this one. Glad you did this one Dennis! - Chris
Thanks Chris - like everything, the reels will turn to rust if not cared for properly. The newer Cabo reels have changed the A/R clutch among other things, so they are easier to service - Best wishes - Dennis
I have read about one way roller clutches/AR bearings a bit lately. From the various sources I have looked at the general consensus is that they should get a very light coat of oil. One source, I believe Shimano, recommended dipping a cotton swab in oil and apply a light coat in the direction of travel. I believe this may have more to do with corrosion resistance than functionality but that is a guess. I always wiped them off and left it at that. If I was getting any slip I would flood with WD40 and wipe out as much as possible and that usually fixed the problem. If you over oil it, it will cause it to slip. Thought I would share that.
There is divided opinion on this. I like your approach. I have seen way too many failures due to grease and excessive oil. I recommend running these dry as they are friction driven clutches. I think you may be right on about the corrosion element - Thanks
This reel looks like my PTI 30. Anti clutch bearing is slipping in the assembly. Would you use loc tight? My father passed away and it was left to me. I also have the Quantum Energy PTI 750 Baitcaster. I bought it used and that one, the break setting or magnetic control spins in circles and doesn't work. I've been adjusting the cast with the spool tension knob. Thanks
Dennis I have a question for you. I bought a Quantum Blue Runner 80 last year. In November. Anyways it came with no information. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that there’s no parts or schematics for it. Off your head do you know of any Quantum reel that might share the same parts? Plus I enjoy your videos. Ps It’s a spinning reel
Hey Rufus, I also have a Quantum Br 8- 80-S ( blue-runner surf ) awesome high-tech for it's time Korean surf reel with 8 bearings, continuous anti -reverse, long cast aluminum spool, quick folding power handle, sealed drag stack, etc.. it's such a work of art I hate to fish with it! , I f you follow Dennis's video, the gears and such are the same, I would not attempt to disturb the anti-reverse, unless it's not working, Dennis made a great reference video to show the orientation of the parts in case you get stuck. Parts for that reel are tough to find ,if at all.
You can contact Platinum Parts (Daves Parts) - They sell parts for quantum reels and can help you with your question. The phone is (813) 358-1588 - Thanks - Dennis

NO. I would remove the clutch and clean and dry the parts then reinstall with no additional lubrication
