The N52 engines in those don't burn anywhere near as much oil as the M54 you have - I also have an M54 engined car so am quite familiar with the difference. My tax is the same though at £325 a year. I can't get that kind of mpg because I don't have that 6th gear. That is the only thing I wish my Z4 had. Outside of that, I'm pretty happy with a 17 year old car. Amazing how even that old, it still looks relatively modern. When people ask me what year it is they are astonished. They assume the style is about 8 years old tops. I don't think most people pay attention to the car with the assumption that it may be too expensive to own. I am well past 23, but I wish they had cars like this when I was that old. They didn't have this class of car, roadster, except high end Porsche that were out of reach for me back then. The Z4 is no Porsche, but it certainly is fun for the price. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming. I know it can be challenging during the COVID thing, but you are coming up with interesting material.

My e85 3.0 needs 1 L of oil every 2.000 km (220.000 km), which is horrible but according to BMW still "tolerable" for m54 engines. The m54 engines are very well known for high oil consumption in many cars. All forums in Germany are full of it. Valve shaft seals in many BMW engines (also V8s) are simply not good. Watch for carbon build up because of that. When you change spark plugs, have the garage look inside the cylinders with a flexcam.
In Poland basic insurance is 200£ per year...but you have to pay ~5-8k £ for the car. Failures happen to my zed: disa valve (200£ for new ar dealership) , window regulator(270£ for the whole thing with seals and instal) Also you have to take care of your roof two times a year..(70£) and change oil at least once a year(100£). My car does not drink oil;p
My '03 3.0i z4 is $372 every six months for insurance, im also 30 and married. The fuel cost between england and the US is grossly different. I'll spend maybe $36 a fill up on premium. Gas has dropped to a record low $1.89(regular) per gallon here.
Ive easily managed 39mpg in my 3.0i. A trip over the bridge to Wales so M4 driving. And then a blast around the Forest of Dean, and back. Wasn't trying to save fuel, if you know what I mean. But on a run the Z4 3.0i isn't to bad on fuel.

Literally bought cars at less than £100 and drive them into the ground, but still managed to sell them on. Bought a Mk1 Fiesta for £15 and a set of points and ran that for a year! Bright yellow and brown interior. Yumm... Anyway, I have to tot up my vehicle expenses each year for my accounts and 4 bikes, 2 cars and a van come to about £15k a year with fuel and all expenses so count yourself lucky! But I do admit I buy thirsty cars and do about 40k+ a year so not suprising... But if vehicles are your hobby then why not? At least the majority of my expenses are tax deductable. Spend the money while you can is my advice! Speaking on mpg, my old Mk1 1.8 MX5 got thrashed everywhere (mainly country roads around the Cotwolds) and gave about 32mpg. I replaced it with a 328 E36 Convertible and that did 34mpg driven the same, and 38mpg on a blast down to Spain. Amazing really!
Hey Joel, have you thought of using thicker oil for your engine? I've done the last oil change in BMW and they've also used the 0W30 as this is the recommended one for the car. However, my Z drinks a little bit of oil (not as much as yours but it can be annoying sometimes) and many friends have suggested I use a 5W40 next time, as the thicker oil helps compensate for the larger tolerances within the engine caused by age and mileage. It sounds like a good idea to me

You can get your steering wheel re-trimmed at Royals in Bucks. I had mine re trimmed in smooth leather top and bottom and perforated at the side, also extra padding like the ///M wheel. They also offer a "flat bottom" too if that's what you want.
@@rumporridge1 That's why I had mine done, plus I bought a used wheel which had the switches for the audio adjustment. I sent that to Royals and when I fitted it I sold the old one on.

Interesting you’re Z4 uses that much oil. The 3.0 in my E39 is for the most part the same engine (m54b30). After 215.000km it uses oil. However it is so little i don’t have to check it that much. It does about a litre per 7.000/8000 km. Interesting it differs that much between cars and models.

Only 4 countries out of 195 in the www use imperial measurements (you mix and match with 'miles and litres). Is there any way you could add subtitles of equivalent metric aka S.I. in synch with your imperial ones. Your audience is the www don't restrict your content to 2% of the world's countries comprehension please.
Do they recommend 0w-30 oil in england? Im running 5w-40 here in new england. Only run it in the summer though, but the car calls out 5w-30. I was running castrol edge but just switched to liqui molygen, the oil is green and glows when hit by a black light, makes finding leaks very easy
Absolutely - inspections go far beyond a regular service and can often flag up potential issues you can rectify before they get out of hand. Plus it's essential to have for a decent service history when selling..

Each to their own. The periodicity of an inspection (roughly every 30k) means the additional cost is negligible when divided into the yearly servicing costs between each inspection.

The e85 does drink a lot of oil, it's normal for this car.
Checked insurance for me at 20 as a second car. Brutal is all I can say.

That’s a mod I’m highly interested in. The steering wheel in my 06’ Zed 3.0si is too skinny.

Real mpg is 15-16 in city only driving. You just CAN'T have higher. Also in Poland we use liters per 100km and 15 mpg equals 15l /100km.

You can get 40 UK mpg(7 liters per 100km) on highway cruising at 80km/h.

Probably not much in it to be honest. When I was looking at Z4s, the 2 litres were actually more expensive to insure!
