    Sweet! I've already got a sensor setup on the little lathe, but it only runs the tach readout on the DRO. I've been looking to run that input into the controller. This vid helps a lot!! I just need to find pin 10 and get the wiring connected. Thanks!!!!

    Thank you! You provided the missing information for my setup. The tip about having to set the spindle relays, even if not in use, made my RPM counter work. Thanks again!

      Cool. Mach3 is great but Mach4 has a lot of improvements, especially for lathes. I'm in the process of converting my lathe over to Mach4.

    Good info! I'm working on a mill and spindle control/feedback is on the to do list. I am curious - how does this help with threading? Don't you need to know angular position so you can pickup the thread each pass? Are one magnet and rpm averaging accurate enough to pick up a thread? Seems like it would work better at higher rpm than low.
    Thanks for putting this all in one place. Very helpful!

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you found the video helpful. I think one magnet is ok if your machine has enough torque to make the threading pass without the spindle slowing down. I will confirm that once I have a threading tool setup on the lathe. Somehow, I think successful threading on Mach3 has more to do with maintaining RPM than detecting minor variations, but I will confirm.

    Hello, first thank you for your detailed videos about using mach3 with a cnc lathe. Unfortunately I can not get this to work with a novusum v2 ethernet board. The index puls is working when I checked this in the diagnostic screen. I also have the spindle turned on in mach3 and. Only of speed averaging is turned on I get a value for a short while but within 10sec it dropes to zero again. Hopefully someone can shine some light on this because I am stuck on this one big time.

    So with sensor hooked up like this video during threading the z feed rate will change depending on spindle speed?... so when threading when you engage part the rpm slows down a bit so z feed rate will slow down also?

    hello, when threading, the cutter brings it to the start and waits for threading on the cycle G76. G code generated through the master. I can't find the reason, or maybe there was an error in the G code?

    Thanks
    Es

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a while, but as I recall the ESS just reads the input pulse. The parallel port requires that you command the spindle before it will take a rpm reading. Otherwise, you won't see a rpm value.

      @@FrancoCNC thanks.. Been working on it for 5 hrs.. I even have a digital tach hooked to the sensor to make sure im getting a reading ( i am . ) but , after going through every step under the sun , and having the index light on under 3 different pin selections , it will not read my rpm in mach.. What im thinking is its something stupid i overlooked.. (My output signal voltage ,the hall sensor proximity , an output signal thats interfering with the input signal , maybe the probe pin i have it on now doesnt read pulsed inputs etc etc ) ill stumble on the answer eventually , likely by accident

    • @airgunningyup
      @airgunningyup 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      since then , i tried different voltages on the hall sensor.. I ran it from 4.2 up to 12 , to see if my signal pusle was too far above 5v to be read.. Turned out that was not a factor , it didnt solve it .Altough i do notice now , when i activate spindle , it says " too fast for pulley " every time.

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@airgunningyup if you see the index light flash on the diagnostic screen when you pass the magnet past the sensor, it is working - at the very least for slow RPM - but it's working. Sounds like you have some sort of software setting issue going on.

    Did this sensor work with the Centriod upgrade or did you have to change to a new sensor?

    • @FrancoCNC

      Hi. The Centroid system wants to use an actual encoder for spindle feedback. That is much more accurate but it requires a bit more work to mount it up.

    Hi Franco,
    I have setup my mill with a hall sensor and get perfect reading on rpm with a short cable. But when in install the intended cable through the cable channels etc. i get somewhat funny readings. Say i run at 2000 r/min. i get about 2000 r/min most of the time but suddenly i get 250.000 or so. This suggest there is something going on when the cable length is different. Any suggestions ?

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ERGOtek Mechanics Limited interesting. I've run my cables about 10 or 12 feet using 22awg SHIELDED wire. My sensor is running 5 volts. I don't get any interference from my motor wires or any other wires that are running beside of them. Check all the obvious things like loose connections. You may need to use shielded wire. You can also check the spindle denounce value. I hope this helps.

      Anyway this is a great video with lot of useful instructions

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The larger the value, the longer the pulse must be active before Mach will consider it an actual pulse. I'd start with 40 micro seconds and see what happens. Slowly increase RPM and watch for errors.
