    I play a side drum in a conventional marching band, but this kind of flawless technical wizardry is awesome, and some of those drummers are very young men. Notice how they don't take their eyes off the lead drummers hands for a second, wonderful skill.

    • @Kieran.percussion

      I find it crazy just how together the snares sound despite all the flam modulations they have. I also suppose that it is quite hard to play clean if you are not rehearsing as much as the blue devils.
      I can tell they are clean bc of how many diddles sound like one person. To get that level of Diddle togetherness (cold attack or not) your interpretation of the music has to be 99% self similar to everyone else or the dirt will show up.

    What drums are they using? They sound really crisp

    • @kevinb9407
      @kevinb9407 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I used to play the drums its the very tightly wound snare wires on the bottom drum head that gives the sharper crack for pipe drummers (ordinary snare drums use less tightly wound wires). The basic drum is not much different between different drum manufacturers, and plays the same when you release the tension on the snare wires, and sounds very hollow when played.

      Premier drums with the Evans blackhead drum heads

    • @celticpridedrums
      @celticpridedrums ปีที่แล้ว

      actually its the tight top snares that give the pipe drum its crispness plus the extremely tight kevlar heads.The bottom snare doesn't really add that much snare sound only a higher tone quality. You can tell the difference in tone when you release the bottom snares and only play the top snares . Pipe drums have very thin shells (6 ply) with a thick re-ring and the heads are not tensioned to the lugs on the shell. The rods holding the tension are secured to a metal ring that does not touch the shell. The shells are free-floating--pipe drums are nothing like any other drum. @@kevinb9407

    Is it just me (I am somewhat new to pipe drumming) or are the drummers waving their mallets around in the air just for show?

    • @RhythmMonster
      @RhythmMonster  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Well...I suppose one could say that anything visual is "just for show" :)xoxo
      Flourishing is an important contribution from the modern Pipe Band Tenor Drummer. Like many other art forms, it's a unique and beautiful mix of sight and sound.
      Enjoy!

    • @captainkiwi77
      @captainkiwi77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any sort of marching art form of music is gonna have a lot of visual stuff that’s just for show, from the mallet waves here, the back sticking and high moms and crossovers and body movement of drum corps, the whip stroke and hip thrusts you see in hbcu show style (also just all the same dci wgi stick tricks +more) it’s all pageantry but it’s important cause we collectively agree, as with anything

    Lovely drumming, but why do 'modern' bands have all these tenner drummers adding nothing to the sound? Do they even touch stick to drum?

    • @RhythmMonster
      @RhythmMonster  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Gab some headphones, brother! The Tenors & Bass have a huge musical contribution to the corps and band. Their pitches are all quite low, so you'll need some headphones to hear them in all their glory, just like you could in real life. Enjoy!
