This brought tears to my eyes this was so similar to my own familyʻs history. I am a descendant of Portuguese Anusim from the Azores and Madeira; we were originally from Toledo, Spain. My family hid our Judaism for almost 500 yrs, practicing what we could in secret, like many other Anusim in Brazil, Mexico, the American Southwest, and other places. My family finally left Portugal, just like many Beta Israel did to Israel, for Hawaii. Even there the fear followed us. My great grandmother still hid Shabbat candles in her china cabinet after lighting them in the 1960s when I was a child. Baruch HaShem I now practice my Judaism openly. May HaShem shelter you all under a sukkat shalom, a shelter of peace. And may HaShem keep you strong in your faith!
I had the same reaction. My family is from the south of Portugal. You family kept some practices, that’s incredible in the Portuguese context!
Us Africans are closer to sfarad in culture and customs than Ashkenazi. Their practice and custom are far from ours. Still brothers just distance. Honestly it’s everyone else that doesn’t embrace us. From Nigeria to Ghana to Ethiopia to South Africa to Madagascar you all have come to our synagogues to pray and to test us. We’ve always offer our hands open to any Jew for he is our brother no matter the transgression of the countrymen or where he resides. He is still your brother- Ashkenazi, sfarad, Mizrahi are you all with us? Because the Arabs have unity in Islam . Not matter the color in ji·had. When will we get there? After they’ve killed us all? ❤ I agree. Also as a Christian be aware that we cannot convert people. Catholicism is FALSE and as a non denominational I believe in the whole Bible.....Torah included. ❤❤❤ We should be partaking in the APPOINTED holy days....by Adonai. Not Saturnalia on Dec 25 (Yeshuoa was born during Sukkot....he brings dual meaning to ALL of the main holy days).
Catholicism is responsible for the misrepresentation of YHWH as an old man with a grey beard (also it's what their Jupiter looked like...) the female angels, the baby angels, the way they talk about saints ......Mother Theresa was awful.

For centuries, most of the world was unaware that a community of black Jews existed in Ethiopia. Even after contacts had been made between European Jews, and later Israeli Jews, knowledge of the Ethiopian Jews was scant. It was not until the early 1980’s, and the famine in North Africa that drove many Jews to seek an escape route in the Sudan, that the Beta Israel became widely known. At the same time, the Ethiopian Jews were equally unaware that Jews lived anywhere else and were at least as shocked to learn of the existence of white Jews as the Europeans were to discover black Jews. At their peak in the seventeenth century there were more than a million Beta Israel. 0:30
Today, there are some 160,000 Israelis of Ethiopian origin.
This is a little more than 1 percent of the Israeli population.
Before mass migration to Israel in the 1980s they numbered approximately 30,000 and lived in Gondar province and the Simien Mountains in northern Ethiopia. 1:32

Yes, now they often do since they've made contact with the wider Jewish community in recent times, especially those who have immigrated to Israel where Rabbinic Judaism is the norm. The subset who were pressured converted to Christianity were obliged to convert to Rabbinic Judaism in order to immigrate to Israel with the Law of Return.

No. They don't believe in Jesus. Though people claim that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah, he doesn't nearly meet the requirements of the Jewish Messiah.
The idea of worshipping a man God is blasphemy to them. They worship and pray directly to The Father who has specifically forbid them to pray to any other being, even their Messiah, when he comes.
