I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. You have a great teaching style. I’ve been using After Effects for about 14 years, and a bit embarrassed to say, just started using Mocha.
That was really incredibly useful.. 😍😍😍 I made a way much complex video then you've made here, by only this tutorial and nearly zero knowledge of AE!!! thank you very much!!!
Excellent tutorial. Any chance you can make one to incorporate tracking motion and incorporating Element 3D? My shot is an overhead of an iPad, that then pivots down to a flatter look. I want to make it a 3D item/creature/thing sitting on the iPad, but you can't tell until the camera pivots. I'm just not getting it right.
Good video. I don’t have too much knowledge in the visual effects side. 😀I have a question. For example, if we have the building in the first 10 frames and then the same building appears again only at the 90th frame onwards whether MOCHA could replace that building with the logo at both the instances automatically? Or do we need to do the edits at 2 different instances.
OK, Mocha wins for tracking cameras and motion hands down. I have to say tracking, and tracking in Mocha, is very intimidating to newer users but once you get the basic steps the results are amazing. I tried to track a sidewalk that tracked very well in Mocha with the AE Camera Tracker. It couldn't find the ground and was clumsy, to say the least. Mocha wins!
both mocha and the 3d camera tracker are great tools but i agree that mocha is much more accurate i would user mocha in scenes with minimal detail for better results and the 3d camera tracker in scenes with lots of detail which will guarantee you decent results
Helped me a lot and I subscribed. I still have a major problem, when I track the perspective I’m never able to put the corner ratio right to fit without warping my image. Let’s say my image has a ratio of 1:1 but I’m not able to make the corner ratio on the motion track exactly 1:1. also very often i have to zoom my image to make it bigger because the corners are too close together but then my image gets very bad quality because of the zooming. Is there a way to track perspective and put my desired image without matching the given corners on the perspective track to the corners of my image?
You could try adding Power Pin as an effect to your layer. Make sure to check out the tutorial I made on real time dual screen workflow in after effects. It'll make matching the perspective a LOT easier when you're doing this sort of thing!
Can you make a position track if you turn the camera away from the frame and then look at the object again? And then in the video, the video just removes only the wall. And if you turn the camera off completely and look at the wall again. Is it possible to do tracking in this case?
Hey I totally get your question. Unfortunately that's not how Mocha works. It's a planar tracker, meaning it will track surfaces in 2D images and interpret them to give you a 3D perception, but it is still just 2D. After Effects' 3D camera tracker is a whole other purpose tool, though many of the same things can be achieved. I made a tutorial about that camera tracker years ago, I might have to make an updated one soon ;-)
I'm having a problem with Mocha AE I have two pieces of footage, in one piece, a plane with a video plays and animates moving towards and out of camera, when I track the shape it tracks it perfectly. However when I try apply the tracking to the other layer that is comp size. It doesn't track to the plane on the other layer :( and goes off entirely :(
Is your footage same native resolution as you're comp size? I have gotten the problem you described when I had 4K footage but was tracking it in a 1080 comp so the 4K clip was scaled down to 50%. If that's the case, try precomposing the clip and then track that precomp
@@dodmedia How would I go about tracking a painting overlay on another painting and the person rotates the canvas painting in the video. Whilst keeping the size of the new painting on the original?
Hey Naveen, After Effects primarily uses CPU and RAM, and secondarily will use a GPU for colour effects but not much. Your processor really does the bulk of the work. So getting a computer with 6 or 8 cores will help you go a long way. I'm running an i7 6800K six core in this video, but this is a little dated now since I built this machine 3 or 4 years ago. Then I also mentioned RAM. In Ae it will use as much RAM as you can throw at it, so I have 64gb of DDR4 Corsair Vengeance. I'd say the best place to start is to decide what your total budget is then break it down in order of importance. So start with processor, then motherboard, then RAM, then cooling system, then GFX, etc.
I don't see the difference between two options ( i mean the camera tracker and Mocha) just need to adjust opacity to 80% and the mode the screen and adjust the size I wish to show us both choice in one screen with same setting for both ...... thank you any way ...... just an opinion For me if the job to add logo to wall i prefer to do it on camera tracker that because Mocha is complicated ... Mocha seems to me as a program itself but if we tracing car this is another case
I notice the difference when looking at the finer detail in full screen. If you prefer using 3D Camera Tracker that's cool. I just don't get as good results with it. Mocha is definitely a program in itself and a beast of a program for sure. But that doesn't mean you can't use some of its features for better results. It is included with After Effects for a reason, after all! :-)
i did the test with Mocha logo and it worked perfectly. but when I apply the tracking data to the solid it disappears.. I follow every step until I got here. unfortunately, something is wrong with my Mocha Ae. Does anyone have any idea how to solve it? (I tried to copy the same anchor point and it didn't work.
@Margaryta Grynko I've found out that I was using different composition and clip sizes.. 1 was 4k and the other one was HD. It doesn't work.. so I needed to precompose to make them both the same sizes.
and finally! thank you for a great lesson. I watched dozens of videos but I couldn't do what I wanted, this solid event solved my problem. thanks
You're welcome!
Great tutorial! I love how easy it is to place logos directly in mocha pro now. Amazing software. Lockdown is also great
Thanks. Made a little vid after several attempts thanks to your tutorial.
Awesome!

Thanks for this tutorial. Seen so many tutorials but must say I do like how you used a solid as the canvas and apply anything to that comp.
That was a great tutorial, well done.
Thanks! Been a while but I'm glad it's still helping people ☺️
I used vc saber with mocha. Its indeed a useful tool and thanx again DOD Media for sharing.
Great tutorial man, happened to be exactly what I was looking for.. 3D Tracking can be such a pain
Finally my problem solve all credit goes to you. Thanks mate 👍👍👍👍👍
We enjoyed most ...we have learned a lot from this tutorial ...thank you💔
Finally, someone who managed to solve my problem! Thank you very much!
Awesome Tutorial!
Glad you think so!

Very good
Thank you
Thx so much!

well done .. keep it up
How do I stop my logo from moving around? Keep the same keyframe throughout.
Hii bro
I brought a png to apply on my lapy...it haven't tracked
Need ur help plzz....

Hi mate, can we track a text layer in 3d space using Mocha just like one can do so in 3d camera tracker?
I hope u understand what I'm asking :p

weird, but i cant manipulate this 2d pink grid the way you do. Mustve been something i did wrong. The quest for best tracking methods continues...
Thank You...Bro..
Don’t know if I should drop this comment on this amazing tutorial ...may be a roughen edges on the logo would have made it more natural.
Great idea!
Best tut 👌
you saved me hours of works
