I just bought the GT and its the acoustic guitar I was looking for. The ergonomics made it perfect for me and stuff like shoulder impingement and carpal tunnel issues didn't flair up while playing. The nut width, the string spacing and the body size and the all solid wood and the electronics and the bag, it was worth the price.

Juan, not too good. Just too many notes too fast to demonstrate the tonal characteristics and differences between the two instruments. Well, Chris, to be honest, I feel like your playing style would let the differences between the two stand out a bit more. With Cooper playing there’s some difference but not a lot, IMHO.
Wow, my 2 main interests in this video (1) you both holding the guitars side by side for a size visual comparison and (2) switching back and fourth between both guitars during Coopers playing. Honestly in this video I felt there is minimal difference. I'm a huge Taylor fan and have always thought the GS-Mini stood alone against all other competition, so the thought of the all solid GT got me super excited, however Taylor was able to make the GS-Mini layered sides/back sound as good as many all solid guitars. I commented on your first video thinking the GT may compete too much with the GS-Mini, but honestly I dont think so based on this video. I'll need to test one in person to confirm. I don’t hear the GT sounding “better” than the GS mini? Just different. As a big fella the GT would suit me better, but I’m not hearing a better sound?
I can hear very little difference. But given this is an all solid, tone will get better for sure. However, if the price is much higher, then I would still go Gs mini.

In my opinion Koa Plus > GT. I just got back from trying these at the store. The Koa Plus sounds incredible: the bass tone is full and warm, warmer than the GT, The Koa plus sounds like a full sized guitar to me, but it does seem to lack overtones and sustain compared to the GT or a full size (was hard to discern as well over the faint air/humidifier noise), although I would actually prefer this since my maple 614e has tons of overtones and sometimes I want them to shut up lol - just depends on the song/style. I could also feel the K+ resonate against my body. The K+ defied expectations, while the GT sounded like what you'd expect from a slightly smaller than full sized guitar. Another difference (although this could change with action / string choice) was the GT was slightly slinkier (easier to bend) than the mini because by defualt the string tension is less. But the K+ I played also felt like the action was a little too high. One thing I liked better about the GT was that it was easier to find the sweet spot in tone/volume when resting my wrist on the strings for a semi palm muted sound when flat picking. On the K+ I found it easy to have too much palm resting on the strings and dampening the sound too much, but maybe with practice this would be overcome; on the positive side, since the K+ is more punchy and has less sustain anyways, even if I erred on less palm I could still get a percussive sound that didn't bleed. To my ears the K+ definitely sounds better than the other mini varients. I don't know the specs as to what's different, but its night and day difference to me - the bass tone on the K+ is amazing. I don't mean that it's overpowering - the EQ across strings was just right. Harder to say for the GT since I found it's bass to be brighter. I didn't try the GT plugged in. The K+ plugged in sounded fine, nothing to write home about - the higher the volume the more of that metalic zing there is with basically all amped acoustics. Not sure how it compared to the regular minis plugged in.
Definitely a good move by Taylor, the GT sounds great and seems to fill a niche in the market; the two guitars are different enough that the new model won't affect sales of the GS Mini or make it obsolete by any means. Listening to the two side by side, it's amazing how full the GS Mini still sounds considering its size. As always, thanks for a great presentation and comparison. Cooper's sublime playing makes me suspect he's actually Jesus, trying to go incognito by disguising himself as John Krasinski...! :)
Using basic fingering and chord patterns would be better in a demo. How does the sustain and overtones in a G, C, D ring out? Fancy finger work not needed.
I’ve finally decided to make the step back into guitar playing after 10 years away from it. I went into the local GC yesterday to test out the 000 Martin body style with the intent of purchasing the Martin 000-13e soon. In between guitars (compared dreadnaught to 000 primarily), I picked up this Taylor GT and absolutely loved how it felt and played. I’m torn between the Martin 000-13e and Taylor GT and would appreciate any comparative input for these two pieces!
I couldn't read the guitar because I was chilling the music. Seriously, it took a time to me to realize he was changing the guitars. I don't know why he have more than one guitar, once he can do anything sound great! Nice video!
The way you guys described the feel of the GT and compared its tone with the GS Mini makes me want to sell my GS Mini and get a GT. The GT makes the GS Mini sound boxy in comparison. Oh, and Cooper's monstrous playing is always a pleasure to listen to.
I would have liked hear some strumming. Will have to revisit video with headphones, the Mini actually had more punch to me. I don't travel, need a pandemic rocking' recording singer-songwriter guitar- does rthe GT come as a lefty and how does it compare to a Martin or Gibson in that price range. Yes, I like a big, even, butbassy as well as bright sound.
That GT is awesome ! Since they are in the same price range how about a GT V.S. American Dream comparison . I was saving up for an American Dream but now i don't know, would love to hear them side by side .
WOW! Cooper Greenberg can make any guitar sound amazing. If I thought that buying either guitar would make me play like Cooper Greenberg, I would buy both. Fantastic video of two fantastic guitars that has only created a bigger dilemma.
A GT with a cedar or koa top would be superb. I seriously consider buying a GT with spruce / urban ash right off the bat. It feels like it’s just big enough to be seen as a guitar that’s not only made for travelling and for younger people. Also, as in this comparison I felt like the GT had a bit more depth in tone. When it comes to money, though...the Gs mini will probably always be the best bang for the buck when it comes to Taylor guitars. Great video, guys! Maybe comparison played by Chris would help to differentiate the guitars more from one another.
Whenever the GT koa comes out I’m selling my GS mini koa plus and getting a GT. That just sounds too good to pass up. Looks, playability, tone, and portability.
I originally bought a GS mini about a month ago for a travel guitar because I don't want to travel with my 54 year old Martin. I brought it home and after a day or two decided that I could not live with a guitar that had a somewhat anemic bass (my opinion only - don't want to offend anyone). I brought it back to Guitar Center and compared it to the GTe Urban Ash, which I liked much better. I paid the difference for the upgrade. BTW the gig bag for the GT is a huge improvement as well. Been playing the GT, unelectrified, daily for about a month now and am very happy with the sound and playability.
To repeat on other comments, when you can play like Cooper then any guitar sounds wonderful, absolutely superb playing ... the GS mini is a great little guitar but given the choice I'd go for the GT, solid woods will improve with time and that little extra size will give a better acoustic sound ... but both guitars are fantastic plugged in, so then it comes down to how comfortable it feels for each individual player. This was a proper informative review, this is how reviews are supposed to be done - well done guys!
I love it and I haven't even had a chance to touch one. I just bought a GS-mini e-Koa because I want a really good travel guitar. The laminated back and sides should fill the bill for durability with less susceptibility to moisture and temperature, and I've wanted the Koa for several years now. The new GT sounds like it should be really cool. I'll have to play one some time.
I wish in demos young guitarist would not so much Flex their licks but show more sustain and let the strings be heard for the average guitar player who would be buying these lower model ones. If I would want to hear speed, lets have Al Dimeola demonstrate his lighting licks. Have a little more James taylor or Dan Fogelberg play and more travis pick on these badboys. There was a smoother glide over the Mini on the guitarmans licks.
I'm a Taylor GS Mini player. I just love my guitar. It's my number one guitar, for live purposes, practicing, lessons. A real work horse. The new GT might be a game changer. It would be great to see a sunburst version with the option of a good magnetic pickup. Something like the popular M1 maybe... but a little less flashy
I’m curious as to how the GT compares to a Martin 00-15. I own a GS Mini and love it, but I would like to have something a little bigger (and US made).
More punch from the mini and somewhat smoother tone from the GT. To my ear it sounds like 13s on the mini and 11s on the GT, am I right? You forgot to mention intonation. What does the C bracing add to it? Intonation on the mini is not too impressive.
Hmmm. ? I can't really tell the difference sound wise ? Maybe my PC speakers aren't good enough? Or my ear isn't that well trained. Think I'll keep my GS MIni KOA for now.
Don't worry, that's completely normal. TH-cam compresses sound like crazy, something like 20 kbps for sound only. The differences will be minor even between a 1960 Martin dreadnought and a small parlor if recorded the same way.
New to playing guitar & I'll take one of each!. As someone new to the guitar & not knowing much about the different aspects of them I could really notice the grander sound from the GT.
Also. In my opinion. Full body grand concert twelve frets are the best thing going for small bodied guitars. If you absolutly need 14 frets. The gc 7 has the slotted headstock. 14 frets but is the same scale length as the 12 fret. If that matters to you. They don’t make them anymore. But man they are amazing
First of all sweet playing! I just want to say that GS mini has fuller punchier tone. Im not sure if it's because it has medium strings. The GT is more rounded & trebly. Im now inclined to try the GT. Thanks for the comparison video.
I think his familiarity with the GS mini has him hitting it a little harder. The volume the GT is supposed to have doesn't shine like I thought it would.
The GT sounds beautiful and I like the light strings, looks like it’s easy to play. I definitely would love to get one probably more so than a mini. I do not own the GS mini and was going to get one but now I am more interested in the GT. I also don’t want be be to comfy with a shorter scale since I am still learning and I like the idea of the “in the middle” 24 + inch scale length. My suggestion would be a GT in sunburst and possibly a cut away but I know that could take away from the sound, can’t have everything… 😆 Thank you for the great reviews!
I'm seriously interested. I've been hoping Taylor would come out with something more analogous to the AD series but in something closer to a Grand Concert body size. The GT might be just the ticket. I also love the fact that they're using a nontraditional wood for the back and sides, apparently to great effect. I'd be interested to know whether this body style would work well in maple, too.
Honestly, I prefer the tone of the GS mini, fuller, more bass. Could it be the strings, or the Urban ash? Not that the GT sounds bad, but for the price and the tone, The mini wins this one. Of course, when a mahogany or cedar top becomes available, and maybe a cutaway I'll have to revisit and compare. Right now the upgrade for me would still be a grand concert 512 or 322
Maybe those medium strings. Need some lights to sound as full... plus I'm a lefty which further complicates the issue. Right now, fave guitar is J45, am considering Martin CEO 7, up to D28, then this caught my eye.
I see several negative comments referencing Cooper's playing style not being the best for demonstrating a guitar's qualities . I felt that initialy but then just sat back and thoroughly enjoyed his very unique style . I'll be watching this again .
Last remark lol: After tax that gt comes out to $1600+ with a soft shell case. I can’t imagine (again imo) spending that much for people to confuse it for a gs mini anytime I pull it out haha.
I have a GS mini The head stock looks kind of cheap but really the ONLY negative of the GS mini in my mind is the 1-11/16 hut width can be a little cramped. Though he doesn't seem to mind.
@@ethanveneracion Can't speak for the other user, but as someone with slender hands who's always had a hard time barring chords, the GS Mini's nut width is fantastic (and one of the main reasons that made me go for that model). Of course it all depends on what you are looking for specifically, but both in terms of playability and sound, the GS Mini is probably the best bang for your buck!
I think it’s a glorified gs mini at $1499. It’s nice sounding for sure and very comfortable but for just a little bigger scale (but by not much) I think it isn’t worth that $1499. Especially when they are saving $$ by using trees (common trees) found throughout CA that are already going to get cutdown anyways. I say this guitar priced at $1299 would of been better imo.
I was going to buy a GS Mini Koa but opted for the Martin 000 12 E Koa model. I love it but I also love the GS Mini. I think Cooper is an amazing talent the same as you are Chris !
i’ll wait for lutz/cocobolo builder edition GT 12 fret custom - silent satin with beveled edges and fingerboard and armrest. would be completely amazing and i’d buy it in a heart beat
Cooper has mastery over a number of key guitar techniques that if he chose to he could play a box guitar and make it sound like the star of the show. The winner is actually Cooper in this comparison as he can make any beat guitar sound great as he able to project his ability through anything with strings and a soundboard making it sound excellent. They say that its 2./3 the guitar player and 1/3 the guitar at his level.
This new Taylor GT seems closer to the Martin Junior series. Both solid woods. About the same scale length, but way different price. How about a comparison?
Bought a guitar from Alamo a few months ago. One of you sales reps said the Taylor rep said the GS mini has a larger sound hole than their other guitars. If so, does that also apply to the new Grand Theater? Kudos on presentation and playing. Thanks.
Contrary to much opinion here , I thought Coopers playing was spot on to showcase the differences, they aren't small. Dynamically the GT just hangs with whatever you throw at at, the Mini flattens or compresses out, lacking subtlety . Depth, clarity and fullness of tone are all dramatically improved, to my ears. The GT sounds warm and well balanced. I started buying Taylors back in the 80's ( more than a few over the years) and have been hoping for something just like this as I prefer smaller body guitars, 00 size being my all time favorite.
There is no question the guitar playing was phenomenal. But the problem is it doesn’t really showcase the guitar for the average player. You need to make the demo more accessible by doing some simple fingerpicking and strumming techniques. Also, the assertion that the GS-mini is not a “serious” guitar is absurd, I’ve been playing and recording for over 40 years and I can tell you it sounds just fine in the studio in the right hands. Honestly, I certainly didn’t hear enough of a difference between the two (likely because of the style of the demo) to justify the additional cost and make me want to add one to my collection. Better luck next time guys.
The GT is more focused, the GS Mini is more lively. Tonally, the GS Mini is a bit brighter, the GT a bit fuller. I think it comes down to which sound and feel anyone prefers. Parlor guitars are great to just have hanging around.
Hey Team cracking review. When you meet the Taylor Team hit them up about creating a Spotify play list by their fans playing their favorite taylor guitar and acoustic tunes that make there guitars sing and hear them in action I could listen to you 2 all day long .I think this would inspire owners to get better

Next video should be comparation of BIG BABY vs GT 👍🏻👍🏻
Cooper’s playing is terrific, but I would have much rather heard an A/B of some “normal” songs with a lot less going on to hear the differences in these 2 guitars. The staccato finger style and super quick changes made the focus be in the playing and not the guitar.
Although I love my GS Mini koa at times I feel like I wish it had a bit more room higher up on the neck. Is there a significant difference between these two as far as that goes?
GT bass would be amazing! I have a laminated 25” bass from another builder. The extra scale length gives it just a little more dynamic range and a more solid feel under the fingers than the GS Mini bass. Would love to have an American-made, all solid equivalent under the Taylor brand.
Taylor seems to make a great instrument at every price point. It's especially impressive that they can have such a sound and quality even in their least expensive models.
If volume was the priority with the invention of the new bracing wouldn't it make sense to offer a GT guitar with a cedar top? As far as I know, cedar tops are said to be a bit louder and mellower than spruce. Judging from the 2 videos the GT you showed seems to be a bit more on the brighter side of the spectrum, so cedar/mahogany might give this guitar a very different sound.
Hey, I've been meaning to buy a new guitar and I really like the GT's body size because it's small enough that it's comfy but big enough that I has some depth and loudness Do you know any other 7/8 steel string guitars with good quality that would be under $600? I can only find classical ones. Thanks!
My bank account likes the GS Mini and I loved it when I was looking for a small bodied guitar but it was over my price range at the time (hated the sound of the Baby Taylor and ended up with a Little Martin). Now I’m looking for a step up. This video was helpful and makes me lean toward the GT but then again, for the price should I just go with an American Dream? I also have a 1980 Yamaha dreadnought that I love the sound of but the neck lacks the playability of Taylor and Martin.
JUST FOR RHE RECORD, anybody that plays a Taylor GS Mini knows just HOW INCREDIBLE it sounds. I wonder why Taylor sold a jillion of them??? Maybe because they are phenomenal. Baby Taylor, GS mini, Big Baby Taylor, Academy Series and now a GT?? It sounds like they’re getting a little carried away.
I don’t know, I don’t hear that much difference between the two guitars with him playing. He is so good that he can make any guitar sound great.
Well I think he’s saying it’s less about sound between the two guitars and more about spacing you have for your fingers

And I think it's better this way imo, makes the video more interesting
Oh, and Cooper's monstrous playing is always a pleasure to listen to.
the guitar music played which is too intensive to distinguish these two guitars
I would have liked hear some strumming. Will have to revisit video with headphones, the Mini actually had more punch to me. I don't travel, need a pandemic rocking' recording singer-songwriter guitar- does rthe GT come as a lefty and how does it compare to a Martin or Gibson in that price range. Yes, I like a big, even, butbassy as well as bright sound.
Yes too mastabatory, not showcasing the guitar, but his skills...
Imagine solid Koa Taylor GT… a dream!
That GT is awesome ! Since they are in the same price range how about a GT V.S. American Dream comparison . I was saving up for an American Dream but now i don't know, would love to hear them side by side .
Bert you read my mind or even against the Martin Dread Jr10
@bertsanford9156 did you ever get an American dream I'm thinking of getting the 22
WOW! Cooper Greenberg can make any guitar sound amazing. If I thought that buying either guitar would make me play like Cooper Greenberg, I would buy both. Fantastic video of two fantastic guitars that has only created a bigger dilemma.
That's probably the best playing I've heard/seen Cooper do in any video. Dude can jam that's for sure!
Thanks for watching! We appreciate the feedback!
Whenever the GT koa comes out I’m selling my GS mini koa plus and getting a GT. That just sounds too good to pass up. Looks, playability, tone, and portability.
@@ogs1mpson609 it is out!
It’s out but is costs almost $5000
@@blankearth5840 overpriced for sure!
Great playing Coop!!!
A Rosewood back and sides GT would literally be the love of my life 😍
I love it and I haven't even had a chance to touch one.
GT vs American Dream series please!
Great video as always.
I am considering buying the Koa mini plus. But understand that it is not suitable for serious studio work.🤨
how would a gs mini sound with light strings like the gt?
like shit...it takes 13s mediums
Hi, is that GS Mini the Rosewood or Sapele? Thanks.
Yessss this is the video I’ve been waiting for!!!!!
Hmmm.
GS mini cost to sound is superb
There is a distinct improvement in playing accuracy and probably mic-ing etc. at 13:57 to 14:07. That is bs in advertising.
I think a cedar/koa GT would be amazing.
I think his familiarity with the GS mini has him hitting it a little harder. The volume the GT is supposed to have doesn't shine like I thought it would.
The GT sounds beautiful and I like the light strings, looks like it’s easy to play. I definitely would love to get one probably
more so than a mini.
Is there a left handed version of this or will there be soon?
I see several negative comments referencing Cooper's playing style not being the best
for demonstrating a guitar's qualities . I felt that initialy but then just sat back and
thoroughly enjoyed his very unique style . I'll be watching this again .
I want a sunburst! Also, please bring on mahogany. Give it that Taylor gloss finish as well.
Can we get a video with a few cowboy G chords please and thank you.
Last remark lol:
After tax that gt comes out to $1600+ with a soft shell case. I can’t imagine (again imo) spending that much for people to confuse it for a gs mini anytime I pull it out haha.
How are the frets? Between the 2,and are they dinky Small, stainless ?
I want the gt but I feel like the Gs mini is great for the price!
I have a GS mini The head stock looks kind of cheap but really the ONLY negative of the GS mini in my mind is the 1-11/16 hut width can be a little cramped. Though he doesn't seem to mind.
Carlos DAngerio do you have big hands or is it just really cramped?
@@ethanveneracion Can't speak for the other user, but as someone with slender hands who's always had a hard time barring chords, the GS Mini's nut width is fantastic (and one of the main reasons that made me go for that model). Of course it all depends on what you are looking for specifically, but both in terms of playability and sound, the GS Mini is probably the best bang for your buck!
bystrouska thanks!
❤Cooper… additional jazz thing is highly appreciated!
i’ll wait for lutz/cocobolo builder edition GT 12 fret custom - silent satin with beveled edges and fingerboard and armrest. would be completely amazing and i’d buy it in a heart beat
Ok so where do I find a tab of what cooper was playing!!!!
This new Taylor GT seems closer to the Martin Junior series. Both solid woods. About the same scale length, but way different price. How about a comparison?
Will pass this on!
Im a very small person and had a lot of neck surgeries and am interesred in the mini
Would love to hear GT Urban Ash vs the GT Blacktop. Ash vs Walnut?
The GT is more focused, the GS Mini is more lively. Tonally, the GS Mini is a bit brighter, the GT a bit fuller. I think it comes down to which sound and feel anyone prefers. Parlor guitars are great to just have hanging around.
This dudes guitar playing blew my mind
I’m sticking with my Gsmini-Koa. Thanks.
Hey Team cracking review.
When you meet the Taylor Team hit them up about creating a Spotify play list by their fans playing their favorite taylor guitar and acoustic tunes that make there guitars sing and hear them in action
I could listen to you 2 all day long .I think this would inspire owners to get better
Next video should be comparation of
BIG BABY vs GT 👍🏻👍🏻
Cooper’s playing is terrific, but I would have much rather heard an A/B of some “normal” songs with a lot less going on to hear the differences in these 2 guitars. The staccato finger style and super quick changes made the focus be in the playing and not the guitar.
Agree 100%. Just strum some chords like 99% of us will be doing with either!!!
@@1518joefil1 exactly
My fingers little bit short, which one should I buy?
Does the gt have noticeably more fret room than the gs mini? I always find the mini to be a bit cramped for my fingers.
I would be interested in GT 5 series (511). Cedar top and Mahogany body. Thanks
To me, the GS Mini seems more punchy and trebel-y. The GT has a more full sound. Denser, if you will. Both sound freakin’ amazing!
I would like to see the GT in Ovangkol with torriefied sitka spruce top.
GS mini is my winner. I can hear more details in the sound it produce. Its alive! It shouts!
Although I love my GS Mini koa at times I feel like I wish it had a bit more room higher up on the neck. Is there a significant difference between these two as far as that goes?
They are both 20 frets but the GT is bigger in the neck (:
Anyone know if the intonation is better than the GS Mini. I love both my minis because they are comfortable for me to play but intonation is an issue.
Hey, I've been meaning to buy a new guitar and I really like the GT's body size because it's small enough that it's comfy but big enough that I has some depth and loudness
Do you know any other 7/8 steel string guitars with good quality that would be under $600? I can only find classical ones.
Thanks!
My bank account likes the GS Mini and I loved it when I was looking for a small bodied guitar but it was over my price range at the time (hated the sound of the Baby Taylor and ended up with a Little Martin). Now I’m looking for a step up. This video was helpful and makes me lean toward the GT but then again, for the price should I just go with an American Dream?
I also have a 1980 Yamaha dreadnought that I love the sound of but the neck lacks the playability of Taylor and Martin.
Ok, I 'd decided the new GS Mini-E Koa Plus was to be my next guitar... are you now saying it's the GT?
It all up to you lol (:
JUST FOR RHE RECORD, anybody that plays a Taylor GS Mini knows just HOW INCREDIBLE it sounds. I wonder why Taylor sold a jillion of them??? Maybe because they are phenomenal. Baby Taylor, GS mini, Big Baby Taylor, Academy Series and now a GT?? It sounds like they’re getting a little carried away.
Would love to see what Taylor can come up with using some Walnut, Cocobolo or Purpleheart. Or any sort of out there combination.
I have the Mini...interested in a GT for sure!
