This is by far my favorite sailing channel. You guys have quite a life at your age and wish you nothing but the best in the future! You're a lucky man Billy. Sierra always seems so happy and goofy and ready for anything. Be safe and looking forward to your next adventure!
For sandy clams, make a cold water bath with cornmeal in it, and let them soak in it for 1-2 hours. They'll eat the cornmeal and pass out the sand. works for steamers up in Maine / Boston area. Then, steam them till they open. I usually dunk them in the broth (in a mug), then warm melted butter, and next stop is my mouth. :)
Indeed very nice. Also with spagetti. After cleaning and unsanding🤪, garlic, pepper, and cocosmilk, put the shells in and let steam for a while, till they are all open. Put the cooked spagetti over and mix well. Bon appetite
Please ask the viewers to subscribe and like! Remind everyone that it costs them nothing but helps your channel get more exposure, allowing it to reach more people. I love your channel. You two are amazing and always smiling. GODSPEED!
Clams need a day in seawater to flush out the sand. The first one had a neck, which makes it a clam, probably a cockle. They are delicious without the sand!
We call those butter clams. You keep them in a bucket for a day or two and they will pure the sand and mud. Then a day in the bucket with corn meal. Steam them and serve with drawn butter with a good bit of garlic. Yum.
I love getting the notification mid day of a new video. Get the rest of the days into station to watching the episodes adventure unfold. Really fun stuff thanks for sharing.😊
Maybe a mini-blower(looks like a regular lawn blower) would blow those bugs off the boat a lot faster... just throwing it out there. Keep having fun! 🫡
Secret Recipe from a Greek Restaurant owner. I’m from Key West born and raised. I cherish my wonderful childhood growing up on that island. One of my dad’s relatives was the first child born on the Island so cool. Back to the recipe. This guy from Greece move to Key West in the early 90’s a
At 5:04, with the sails in front of the sun, this is the tattoo Jordan (Project Atticus) has on his left forearm. It is just a round circle with the outline of a mainsail. Ya know, it is okay if you two get a tattoo - you've probably earned a Swallow or two by now. :¬) Webhead USA
In our Exuma travels under, we found what the natives call "Buttery lucine" which resembles a clam. Other finds were Prickly cockle whose shell was scallop like. We found the season for harvesting these were in the Cruising Guide. Believing the months of February through May but don't tie us to the dates. Otherwise, if you allow this shelled object to rest in cornmeal until the sand is filtered out, *(approximately 24hrs) the sand may be flushed? Sorry about Jack, I'm sure he is in a good home since you both donated towards the abundant Homeless dog population in the Bahamas. Excellent episode, this channel is best for content and cinematography/editing we have found on Utube Sailing.
Hey guys. Did you not learn to purge clams, cockles, etc of sand using corn meal or another similar ground meal when you were cruising up here in the PacNW? All you have to do is put the shellfish in a pail of seawater with the meal and give them a day or two, changing the water every six to eight hours so the O2 in the water is replenished. The shellfish get largely if not totally sand free within two days, three at the most. Been doing it all my life, and it really works. My theory is that, by eating the meal, they also put on weight, sort of like corn finishing a beef that has fed solely on grass. We don't even consider eating clams and cockles without giving them a day or two in the pail to clean out the sand.
You can use cold fresh water with cornmeal to purge the sand from your shellfish. Usually I let them go overnight. They'll pass the sand w/ the cornmeal.
So about the bugs... why is it that no sailing channels mention using Thermacell bug repellent? Here in Muskoka, Ontario we get hoards of mosquitoes in the spring and summer. I can get 200 come into my cruiser in minutes at dusk but the Thermacell will kill every on in 10 minutes. Some times I will just drop a pad onto a tin plate on the stove to activate it. Magic a d safe. Love your channel.
For the clams, fry garlic and cilantro in olive oil then add the clams until they are open. That's the Portuguese style. And of course, leave them in a saltwater bucket/basin for several hours to get rid of the sand.
I have been following you Billy for many years and I'm very happy about your success in living your life as a 'boatman". I don't know if you're aware of the recent news story about an American couple missing in the Caribbean after fugitives allegedly stole their yacht. My question to you is.........what sort of security measures do you use to protect yourself from harm? Thanks again for all the hard work you put into your videos, I enjoy them immensely.
I clean my shell fish by soaking them in fresh water overnight with a fist full of porridge oats, they eat the oats and and self clean. when cooking I add a drop of white wine and cream and serve with french bread and beer. I sometimes even share ... but only sometimes!! ... I hope ye found Jack and ye can report that Jetty and he are still friends keeping in touch by K9 webcams. Learning to work without relying instruments is a great idea for those occasions that you described, I turn off our electricity supply occasionally to remind us just how good we have it in life and give the kids the sense of what it was like to live back in the dark ages when I was a kid, that and when I need some peace from their music! 😉 Great video and wonderful story telling... Stay Safe & Fair Winds!! ☘
Eleuthera is my favorite with her blush pink sand and turquoise water, cotton candy colors at their best. Don't miss Lighthouse Point. IMHO, it's a must experience. Jack and Jettie 💔 Fantastic music in the background. Perfectly matched... and not too loud. Mattias Tell 🫶 Thanks for sharing.
Conception Island seems to be the place for sharks. Jack on SV Zatara just posted a video. It’d be cool for you & Billy to meet up with the Whitakers. Jetty’s like “hey bud, what are doing, don’t feed me to the sharks”. 😍
Just sitting here watching this episode thinking about the choices you have made to live your life. Watching Sierra cleaning off all the dead bugs. Some people, living the life, might think this is such an inconvenience and hassle. Then, flashing back to all the backbreaking tedium and hard work you guys put in with Mountain Myst also knowing that your daily lives require you to produce this high quality content to share for the internet monster. Have been along for the ride since Neverland. Good thing too since I haven't gotten out there as much as I would like lately. Love the new boat, your improvements and learning about the features that make your sailing more enjoyable and safer. Thanks
Happy Valentine’s Day! I know exactly what you mean about aquamarine clear water. My young kids are about to find out this spring break. Finally cruising to the Bahamas from WPB. Love your strumming guitar music very cool. Safe journey and god bless.
They do make Lighted lewers. They blink or flash to Attract the squid. And they have like rows of spikes on them to help in hooking 🪝the squid. Thank you so much for a Great video 📹 this week. Question? So what are ya'lls plans? Does going though the Panama canal to the pacific. To maybe exploring the Pollution Islands of the pacific. Just wanted ask. Ok until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! Aloha and cheers 🍻
I would love to talk with you two about life on the water. We traveled as a family of 5 for 10 years via RV. The kids are grown, and starting their own chapters in life. We are selling our ranch in NY, and heading south. We have been doing a lot of research, and really like the lagoon 380. It's coming together, and only a matter of time before we start our latest chapter. Thank you, & Safe travels.
Do you have or required to have a Captain's license to operate your boat in the waters you visit? You two are a great couple, you remind me of my wife and I fifty seven years ago.
Do yall like your Highfield dingy or do you wish you had got a different one? im asking because I want to buy one but I've never been on one and yall have so any info would be very much appreciated thank you 😊

I like them too. I also enjoy watching SV Delos.
Gee, you think they film the bad times or the bad moments makes the editing cut? Which is fine but don't think bad times don't happen.

That was super cool that that small pod of dolphins checked you guys out swam around in the vicinity.
You need a leaf blower to get ride of the bugs. Great video 2x👍
Ha ha. Had the same thought
Clams need a day in seawater to flush out the sand. The first one had a neck, which makes it a clam, probably a cockle. They are delicious without the sand!
Love you kids! Sorry you got a mouthful of sand, Sierra. Safe travels ❤
I love watching you guys preparing your meals . Especially different fish .
You can tell Jetty really loves her mommy! ❤
You guys are such adventuresome eaters. Much respect. Just love you guys so much. Happy Valentine’s Day. Sending love from LIZ in California💜😎🤟🏻🐬⛵️

Your dog reminds me a lot of "Roxy," on board "Sweet Ruca" now sailing up the west coast of South America and Patagonia.
Best sailing channel!!! Someday I’ll meet you two….
Rock Sound is where we saw the most dogs ever!
Always enjoy your videos 👍👍. Sorry you didn’t find Jack 😕
Wonderful video, I like how the two of you communicate. You are a great couple. Love the the diving .
Glad you showed us a daylight view of the narrow passage you came through at night. 🌬⛵🌿🍃

I think those are clams and cockles. Scallops usefully have wings in the shell near the hinge, the ridges are deeper, and are flatter.
Like it when you show where you are going on Navionics!
You can use cold fresh water with cornmeal to purge the sand from your shellfish. Usually I let them go overnight. They'll pass the sand w/ the cornmeal.
White clam meat is usually a tan creamy color with a firm texture and mild fresh taste .
The shark appeared to moving next to your sailing machine at impressive speed. (Shark-power). 😊 The clear water is stunning to view through.

Happy sailing hello Jetty girl be safe
There is one sure thing you two eat vary well from the Ocean, Enjoyed the Video, Thanks for sharing
Lite flourocarbon leader and use smaller butterfly jigs. Use 2 on the same line. Tie a dropper loop!
You gotta leave the cockles in saltwater bath for an hr and they will purge the sand before you cook them. Great episode ❤
The last time I caught squid in Pensacola near FT Pickens I had a lantern and a bait net.
Use small squid jigs, too big will scare them off. Just use the prawn type one, and try different colors 👍
Thank you for knocking on "wood" via your head. I do that ALL the time
Love your posts so real and fun
thats a cockel we eat them all the time in uk its best to put them alive in corn flour over night it gets ride of the sand
love every upload! so cool the friends you found when diving this time.
AWESOME Video Edit...!!! 👍😎
We ate cockles on Antigua when I was younger. Purge them in pepper water to get the sand out.
Happy Valentine’s Day! I know exactly what you mean about aquamarine clear water. My young kids are about to find out this spring break. Finally cruising to the Bahamas from WPB. Love your strumming guitar music very cool. Safe journey and god bless.

I remember that dog.
Maybe you guys should build a aluminum catamaran also. The Tula 49
Please Google how to shuck scallops to freeze and save enough to make pasta with!
Your squid lures were interesting. Have you ever tried jigging Sabiki rigs for squid? I have hooked small ones on Sabikis before in Tampa Bay.
Yep...that's a cockle.
they are clams, you have to purge them to get the sand out
Do you have or required to have a Captain's license to operate your boat in the waters you visit? You two are a great couple, you remind me of my wife and I fifty seven years ago.
What you caught there are were eating would fall under muscles and probably not shellfish.
Would be pulling out a leaf blower on thoes bugs...😅

We need to get you back to New England and teach you to say "scollup". You say it like an O not an A. Fun video!
Anybody know what movie they were about to watch that was a true story?
Have to let them purge for a day and the sand will be gone.
