    Thank you for yet another insightful video demonstrating how to navigate the positions resulting from the hippo! The opening is easy to set up, but requires skill in the middle-game and that's helping me to become a better player.

      You got it! Thanks for tuning it. And couldn't agree more on your comments concerning the Hippo being a middlegame focused system!

    Nd7 setting up the rook sac mate of the king on h8 was very nice.

    In real life, hippos are runored to kill more people each year than lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos combined.
    Probably because of how harmless they look.
    I have a feeling that more and more people will start to respect the Hippo and consider it a legitimate opening in a few years.
    And it's all thanks to players like you, Solomon! 🦛💪🏿

      Thank you for that! Ya I hope to help put the Hippo on the map. It truly is a great opening and it doesn't give the respect it's due.

    Never get bored of your Hippo videos. Just like how we will always watch a clip of Mark playing the Morra

    Most ALL of modern chess players are zombies who follow the script. Howell and Giri couldn't even recognize Ding's Colle in the WC. Concerning his use of the London, Howell said during the setup, "Surely not the London!" Giri blurted out, "Everybody hates the London." Disrespect an opening and pay the price.
    Thanks, Solomon for ALL your good work in promoting our beloved Hippo!

      You got it! Do you like playing the Hippopotamus Defense?

  • @darrylkassle361

    There was a voice that said maybe you have gone too far with the hippo to the point you can't turn back so therefore you defend it to the death. However if you had not proven it's worth personally I would say that would be the case. However you have personally shown it to be a viable option. Like a hippo in the wild don't allow anyone to step near you and rush them at every opportunity

    • @TheChessGiant

      That's very fair! It's one thing to talk about an opening or product (or anything) but it's another to use it. I really do believe the Hippopotamus Defense is strong, and it's got me CM and NM titles so far. Thanks for the kind words and I'm excited to continue sharing my Hippo journey with y'all!

    Good video. The Butcher has a YT video "DEMOLISHING The Hippo in Just a Few Moves!!"
    I do not believe the Hippo can be easily demolished, and I would like to know what Hippo moves are missing from his video. That would an interesting video for you to make.

    Thank you Solomon for analysis. I am Caro-Kann and Pirc player and in chess club or tournament your opponent asked what does he play and the Hippo will be a good alternatives to these players.

      You're very welcome brotha! And ya, the Hippo is a great way to get a solid middlegame positoin, take your opponent out of their comfort zone, get the advantage in preparation & comfortability, and just play some chess!!

    • @edsanjenis9416
      @edsanjenis9416 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheChessGiant Exactly, these players should be comfortable with their repertoire and not ask what does he play? It is easy to look online, your favorite defensive, or what you play as white and look at games to prepare against you; I would like some sidelines against these opponents so we play chess and not what they prepared against me.

    MAN, I SO LOVE HAVING LEARNED THIS OPENING FROM YOU, BUDDY. IT'S NOW MY FAVORED ONE TO USE AT MY CHESS CLUB! YOU'VE TAUGHT IT SO WELL IN YOUR COURSE I BOUGHT. MAN, SUCH MAJOR, OUTSTANDING INSIGHTS IN THAT COURSE! VERY RECENTLY, YOU UPLOADED A VERY BASIC BEGINNERS LIMITED INTRO ON THE E4 OPENING AS WHITE.
    Please, sometime in the future, would you kindly share some of your talents on that opening! I always avoid it and know you could easily change all that for me Big S. I'm such a Major Fan Pal. I Thank You so very much, You're #1 in results of my improvements against good friends at my Chess Club here along the Coast in Coos Bay. With your Course, that that has such outstanding instruction skills & insights, I was unable to win against specific members that I could never beat! I'm ever improving with your consistent outstanding style. I'd be so Grateful. Thanks much Pal & As Always, wishing rich Blessings your way from Oregon. ... Mike.

    f4 instead of Nf3 is more challenging against the hippo
    And Nh2 giving up central control and allowing black to grab the initiative by c5 is dubious.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True that! I'll post a video in which I faced f4 and hopefully you can get some good ideas from that! But ya, e4 and d4 with both knights out isn't too hard for black to play against. The three pawn or four pawn center offers more of a challenge. That said, we're good if we know what we are doing. Here is the game I played against a guy who went with the aggressive f4 idea! th-cam.com/video/DKLZmuhObKE/w-d-xo.html

    Your are going thru moves extremely fast here. Your long time audience is probably having a very difficult time keeping up. I have seen this from very advanced players so it looks like you have moved up the ladder. Congratulations.
