How does this guy make money? No ads? Free materials? Are you seriously just teaching everyone flawless bass technique for free out of the goodness of your heart? Like thanks my man!! Thank you so so much!!
I really think the nuance and finesse of well placed ghost notes is something that elevates drummers and bassists in particular. Once you start to internalize the percussive element of playing bass you really start performing a part instead just playing the right notes.
Thank you. This was an excellent insight. Learning to internalize the percussive aspect of bass playing....I’ll get to work wrapping my mind around around that.
Reading your explanation of the importance of internalizing ghost notes and performing a part not just playing the right notes really helped me to put this all into perspective - in addition to Mark's excellent video.
For the first time in my life...I FINALLY get the whole ‘less is more’ concept. Thank you for showing the three different styles, I see that tasteful application of the ghost notes, increases my listening interest, and overall enjoyment of the bass lines.
Whenever I watch one of your videos and a question pops up about what you're explaining, remarkably you answer that question in your next breath. You are very thorough in your teaching.
Great rift and another great lesson Mark. I am almost at the end of the 25 Slap Groove Challenge and maaaan that's a hard lesson :D looking forward for your next lessons! Cheers!
Hello Mr. Smith I was hopping you can help me learn A Bassline I have been trying to find for many years and the song is HARD SUN by Eddie Vedder Thank You Mark if you can I would be unimaginably grateful.
Thank you for this. Please zoom in on your hands. I keep getting harmonics because I'm either touching the string too lightly playing completely different notes because I pressing down too much... I'm guessing there ghost note is somewhere in between
Touching the string lightly enough to produce a harmonic is right -- but you need more than one finger touching it, preferably all four. Then you won't get any harmonics.
I wouldn't call it home position, because home is always on the same fret. I would call it parking spot, or park position just like we did when we had to park our harddisk

Nice lesson Mark. Dec '63 is a great riff to practice this on. And I loved the idea incorporating ghost notes with scales as practice.

Wooooohooooo...

Slap it, kill the note by choking the string and you'll get a ghost note from your axe. Man, playing bass sounds pretty violent.

What the hell was that 2 minute BS I had to go through just to get to the segment?
Right. And just how much did that segment cost you?
comments like this are totally pointless, Mark gives these lessons free of charge and every Friday, what else do you want??
What the hell?
Dry your eyes George, take your negativity elsewhere.
