    More Crystal Bridges! ❤
As stylized as this is, I feel so sorry for the figure on the stretcher... I love Lawrence's ability to do that with his bright colors and the signaling he does with body language.
I know first-hand the issues associated with healthcare in the black community. My own Jamaican relatives aren't interested in seeing doctors unless their arms are actually falling off, and even then they'll grumble about it. I'm grateful for the increased education and availability of resources.

Whenever I see a Jacob Lawrence posting, I compelled to add something to his legacy. When I was an art student at the University of Washington in the Seventies, I had a cranky art teacher who insisted that he knew what was art and what was not. I was not convinced. While discussing this with the Dean of the Art School, a man stuck his head through the door and said, "I'll take him on", meaning he agreed to tutor me one-on-one for that quarter. Mr. Lawrence was the most generous, encouraging, inspiring professor of my entire college experience. He was a great artist AND a great teacher.

There's so much to look at here. In the bottom right corner it appears to be man holding what looks like the old coffin style. He has an old-time thief look. To the left of him, the back of the man or woman's coat (or robe) has part of a figure standing on something like a pedestal. It's harder to see on my laptop. The perspective _is_ odd; it looks like they're going downstairs but the position of the people doesn't make sense, or maybe they're going upwards. Excellent painting. Thank you.

Thank you so much for discussing the Harlem Renaissance. I took 3 art history classes in college and they never discussed the Harlem Renaissance.

Is this an oil painting? It has a weird texture.
Also, watching this (never seen before a Lawrence painting), could this style been an influence on the opening scene on the movie Detroit, by K. Bigelow? It looks alike

On first appearance to me I thought I was looking at some type of flowing Islamic/African style robes and clothing draped on a number of the individuals.

There's something so sublime about this. It's like a fever dream.
