Hey Kelly. The sprayer does that. I find when I do a heavier amount of salts like fertilizer, the sprayer takes a bit longer to pass all the heavy mix through the micro hole it has. You were using a lighter dosage of 1/2 tsp to a gallon portions. It may have been that the pass-through was smoother so it ran out faster. I wouldn’t worry about it being too much. The sprayer mixes it well. The flowers are looking amazing. Your Dendrobiums are awesome. Love the purple and white dendrobium. Isn’t it weird how iPhones cameras have something against Dendrobiums. lol😂 Sevin is the best! I spray it all the time. I love the incubator your hubby built. Everything is looking really great. “The proof is in the pudding”! The cranberry and yellowish outlined Dendrobium is spectacular. I’m so happy you are filled with blooms again. Going through that bun eating bandit, everything seems back to normal. Your brown splash and yellow splash are the stars✨

I was thinking of doing a test just to see if the amount of fertilizer it dispenses it accurate. And yes I’ve been enjoying all of the blooms I’ve been getting ever since I got my incubators. But I recently had a bout with thrips so im currently dealing with that. Other than that things are going well. My splash orchids looked amazing this time around, can’t wait to see yours when it blooms! 😍
Hello Kelly , is better the 20 galón and is working ok you just have to go faster 😊the Orchids will be ok I notes the other sprayer do not give enough because is to slow and we don’t give enough. The peach dendrobium are amazing ❤fun story went I began watching the channel you mentioned the Home Depot have a 7:99 orchid and of course I go to my Home Depot ask for the 7:99 special 😂😂and then I realized not in Miami is only in Hawaii 😂😂😂beautiful garden again ❤❤
Aloha Yadira! That peach dendrobium is really popular here because it’s not very common. It is such a pretty color 😍 That’s a funny story 😂 Too bad all of the Home Depot Stores don’t have them. The location close to where I live just got in a shipment of them recently but they sold out fast! I used to be one of those people who would buy a lot but now I have too many orchids and not enough space 😂 Mahalo for watching and for sharing that story with me, it made me laugh 😂
Love your Dens, they are gorgeous. At 28:10 I think that’s “Fasciation”. You can google it. You are correct, that sprayer uses a lot of fertilizer but it’s the mixed concentration that matters, no matter the volume of fluid. I’m now using a battery operated Field King sprayer and it’s far more economical than using a hose attachment.

Hi Kelly. Back in my earlier orchid growing days I had 4 fairly large shade houses and I did use the same type of sprayer as yours. It took a bit of getting used to and I went through a lot of fertiliser in the process. I know that the water pressure of your hose has something to do with how quickly you use the mix in your cannister. It was a long time ago and I can't remember all the details. In the end, best to read the instructions and don't worry, a lot of us do it, go in blind and hope for the best. I don't think I was much help but just know that you're not alone. Good luck with it and thank you for sharing your beautiful blooms.

I was going to do a test just to confirm that it dispenses the correct amount of fertilizer per gallon, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Hii from Miami! Beautiful blooms! 😅I purchased that sprayer and had some difficulty too, mine wasn’t dispensing the solution at the bottom at all. My hubby ended up returning it.

I still am in that time frame of being able to return it so it’ll be going back if I find that it’s not doing what it should. Did you find another sprayer that works better?

22:43 I use the same butterfly cages with my new cattleyas in an enclosed, eastern facing porch here in Connecticut! 😁 Three of my new cattleyas are from Akatsuka including the Rustic Spots 'H&R' which is already pushing out a bunch of new roots.

@@orchidsinparadise2438 Right now it's 87% humidity in Connecticut, especially when there's rain. The weather has been in the 80s for a couple of days, then there's a 90° heatwave for a couple of days. I like how drought tolerant cattleyas are but they need a lot of light. When I want more cattleyas, I'm definitely ordering from Akatsuka again. I got to go to the Big Island for the first time in 2019, but orchid growing wasn't my hobby then. I also got to go to Maui and Kauai last year.
It’s been hot and humid here as well. Akatsuka has a lot of beautiful orchids so I’m excited to see what they’ll have for sale at the show. Maybe next time you visit the islands it’ll be during the next Hilo orchid show 🤙🏽
Probably has to do with the pressure on the one hose versus the other. And as a tip, it matters how much you turn the outside water hose on as well. Maybe a nozzle that allows for more adjustment of how quick the water comes out. You didn’t do anything wrong/ you just plugged the hose straight in. So I would attack a nozzle that you can regulate the amount coming out of the tip. Or just barely turn on your water on the hose shut on/off valve: but the output of the spraying in what regulates the water output: however: you can half your fertilizer solution if you have to but that’s not exactly what you want either I don’t think
I do not believe you did anything wrong. It semed to me that the flow was all the way open, meaning a lot of product straight to the ground. I used a finer spray, which means a slower flow, and do not try to get lots of plants in one wave of the nozzle. i water plan tby plant and only mass spray for plants that are mounted. It saves a lot of fertilizer and while I support a lot of food for an epiphytic plants, wasting fertilizer by overspraying means I can afford fewer plants. Beautiful show. Thank you.
hey kelly, I am a firm believer in fertilizing orchids well. I fertilize my orchids the same strength as any other hydroponically grown plant. As you probably know you fertilize soil grown plants with a fairly strong concentration and hydroponically grown plants require half that amount as a general rule of thumb. Your solution is quite a heavy dose just so you are aware. Now that is not a bad thing as such - just for you to be aware of cause you said it's a fairly weak solution. Like if you watch many other youtubers, there's one I won't mention by name but he has 18k subsbcribers - he recommends to feed at a concentration that is 10x weaker than what you used 😮 Yes far too weak but try telling him that. Sometimes it's pointless trying to help others online - online people never like to listen and go into a rant on why they are correct lol. I'm sure you have experienced this as we all have. Anyway like said you used a fairly strong solution which is not a bad thing. The best growers use a stronger solution rather than a weaker solution. As you probably know weakly fertilized plants grow weak and get susceptible to fungal infections far more. But the solution you used is one that would greatly benefit from a good rain shower between each fertilizing. If you used more because you went through it so fast then you might want to hose the plants down with plain water - just to be safe till you've figured out how to use it best. I'm suspecting the one hose might have a higher pressure than the other hose and so much more came out. Use it on a lower setting and only water the pots, not all over the leaves. Best not overdo it. Like said I am a firm believer in fertilzing strongly but you were using the maximum dose - which is fine for an outdoor grower but if the plants received too much then the roots can get fertilizer burns. I know it's a complicated subject which many never fully understand and thus most of the time just go far far far far far too low - just to be safe. In this case I would also advise you go the safe route and give em a blast of plain water. I can't believe I'm recommending that but well it is true that you can do damage fast using too much whereas it can take years to weaken plants using too little. Just my recommendation till you know what you did was safe to do.

I’ve been growing for about 5 years now but I still consider myself new and I welcome all the advice I can get. I've seen people claiming to have been growing orchids for 50 years and do worse (and give out advice you'd think they've never grown them before). I like to follow Nelson and his advice to ignore all the misinformation on online forums. It's what you learn in the time you have been growing that is important, not how long you have been growing for. But full disclosure I am a newbie myself. Learning something new all the time as I go along. All the best.

He even admitted to me in private that he read the scientific advice, disagreed with it and decided to lie to his viewers that his recommendations are what has been found to be scientifically right just because he couldn't accept what the scientists had found out. I fertilize 5x stronger on every single feed and I can guarantee you that orchids grow much stronger. But carry on following his advice and I can guarantee you will discover your orchids will sufffer within about 4 years time. Follow how Ingram orchids, Kelly on this channel or Nelson and Melissa loves orchids do it and you would be doing it right. You can also check out Cheery Orchids - she also uses the right amount. But its your orchids at the end of the day. If you like pests, wrinkly leaves and bulvs, small growths, less flowers to look after then you are on the right track.

I use the same sprayer and always have to refill the bottle 4 even 5 times to fertilize my orchids
