Yup, and we're FAR away from the narcissists of LA (social media people, actors, athletes). Still have TONS of that California beauty with way less sociopaths, less population, less pollution and way more normal/blue-collar people. I prefer the mountains, hills, forests, lakes, rivers, caves to the beach anyways (we also have beaches but the water is colder than SoCal). I like visiting SoCal (tons of friends/family down there) but much rather LIVE in NorCal.
Agreed. SF Bay Area and Central Coast are really not exactly Northern California. I suspect the producers of this consider everything north of Fresno to be in play.
@@RonJohnsen-zw3xt I've lived here for over 30 years and I can't tell you how many times I have said that same thing. I explain it to people like this... If you open Google maps and make a screenshot of the map of the western US and draw a strait line across the northern and southern borders of California so that the bottom one goes out across the ocean, and the top one follows the state line towards the Wyoming border, then draw another line from San Diego to the northern boarder, making sure it's strait and passes through San Francisco. Then highlight the vertical line and copy it. Paste it into a new image and turn on the grid and count the squares north and south of San Francisco. In my image editor, Paint Shop Pro 5, there are approximately 16 squares to the north and 17 to the south. In other words, San Francisco is just slightly farther north than what half way would be, but it's too close to say without exact measurements... So in my opinion, San Francisco is definitely Central California.
@@Bigfoot-px9gj oh my God you’ve been here for a whole 30 years you must know everything about this place. It doesn’t matter what you think. San Francisco always been considered part of Northern California. Glad you got out paint shop pro to solve things. Transplants in northern Cal are the worst.

My husband and I drove up the coast for our honeymoon and one of our stops was point Reyes. I feel like I went through at least 5 different landscapes just from San Francisco alone. I’ll never forget it. I’m from southern California and this makes me want to move further north.
Lifelong Californian here. Capitola and San Juan Bautista are not in Northern California. You can replace them with Placerville, CA and Trinidad, CA. I agree with the rest of the choices, though. Also, please look up the Spanish and Native American pronunciations for these towns. You are making a mess of the names, thanks.
If you only divide CA into NorCal and socal, then NorCal starts after SLO. If you believe the central coast is a thing, then NorCal starts in Sonoma county. And of course if you go inland these distinctions really don’t apply at all.
I live near Bodega Bay in Sonoma County. Lovely little town with great restaurants. Worth a visit. Sit in one of the restaurants at a window table before dusk with a glass of wine and watch the water birds come to the bay for the night. It's like watching planes land but much more sublime.
Grew up on Pacific Grove , Ca, on the Monterey Bay and a picture of PG coastline was shown while the video was featuring. Carmel by the Sea. Tots Ly enjoyed seeing it though.
Let's see, in the movie it is all claimed to be in Bodega Bay (except for the SF scenes). Then, the Tides is in Bodega Bay, the shots of the town are Bodega Bay, the house is Bodega Bay, the farm where the farmer is killed is Valley Ford, some filming in studios in LA and other places. The school house is in Bodega. Saying it was filmed in Bodega Bay is as accurate, if not more accurate, than saying it was filmed in Bodega.
The Birds was filmed in both Bodega Bay and Bodega the town inland out of the fog. Heavily edited to make them look like one place. Church and school are inland. Long street and Tides (bar) on the Bay. Just enjoy the show and don’t worry about it.

I have been to every one of these towns except for Nevada City. My favorites are Murphy, Pt Reyes Station and Bodega Bay. But Calistoga, Healdsburg and St. Helena are beautiful.
You've got to check out Nevada City! It is quite unique. I stayed at an old haunted hotel that had a bar at street level. In the bar, there's a huge portrait of a woman wearing a skirt that is made out of coins. The rooms in the hotel are all different, and have a bed and breakfast vibe. It's not fancy, but everything is very antique. It was an experience. The town is super cute and charming. I plan on going back in the winter. I heard they have a Polar Express train ride that is remarkable.
I've been to all of these and there is not a disappointment among them. I would add Mariposa, Jackson, Paso Robles, and Cambria to the list but there are so many many more. Enough for a follow up video. But please, as others have noted get the pronunciation correct. It really helps.
Love Dunsmuir. Don't forget Hedge Creek Falls just off the northern most exit. A quick 5 minute walk down to the falls that you can walk behind. I stop there every time I go up to Oregon.
Strange selection. It’s supposed to be Northern California but almost all of them are in a small band from Monterey Bay to Bodega Bay then across the state to Nevada. Sure they throw in Dunsmuir and Ferndale but that is omitting a huge section of the far northern part of the state.
