Crying at the Discoteque" is a song by Swedish band Alcazar from their debut studio album, Casino (2000). The track samples Sheila and B. Devotion's 1979 hit "Spacer".[2] Alexander Bard produced the song and can be heard in the middle of this song (he is also featured in the music video). Released in April 2000, "Crying at the Discoteque" became Alcazar's first international hit single the following year, reaching number one in Hungary and the top 10 in Flanders, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Switzerland
The Instrumental is a sample of "Spacer" by Sheila B. Devotion that was produced by Nile Rodgers. You recently reacted to it. They reference a few 80's songs in the lyrics "You Spin Me Around, I stand at the Borderline...." etc.
I remember my mom loved this alot when it came out around 2001/2002. It''s boppable.
Original Song...Sheila and B Devotion from France....80"s
If it wasn't for Sheila & B. Devotion's Spacer, this song wouldn't have any kind of hook. I remember when you reacted to that too! That sample powers this song all the way through. But I do love Sophie Ellis Bextor's cover of the Alcatraz version that she made during the pandemic, and she sings it in the video in multiple different UK venues with no people in them - as in, she's showing the lockdown. It always makes me a bit emotional.
Spacer by Sheila B Devotion is the original song.
🤣wow I reacted to that song too
It's the instrumental of Spacer that they sampled and based the whole song around.
Not early like yesterday, i had nightmares.
the finest commercial house music :)
Alcazar released many great "disco/dance" songs and albums. Sad that they decided to split up.
More swedish disco (very gay!) - Army Of Lovers, always over the top:
