I use many metrics including price per flowing boe, but I also use price per flowing divided by operating netback to address the issue that you raised. To your larger point, you have to think and not rely too heavily on any one metric.

I use technicals to trade, the fundamentals kinda bore me and I work in oil and gas! When seven gen first went public I was working on their leases and I wish I had of bought some. Everyone was talking about who was going to buy cause we all had good knowledge of what they were producing

Great video and simply broke it down. Do you / could you go further and split out the product splits, divided by spot price at all or is it just top line figures? As can imagine condensate might be different price to dry gas but also different to location price of AECO compared to JKM pricing?

Good basic points about adjusting for debt and breaking down what constitute the boe's, and warning about comparing apples to oranges. While you did touch upon it, I would also caution against using price per flowing barrel as anything but an extremely quick and dirty metric. Ultimately what matters is cash flow per share and net present value. Aside from their quantity, the quality of cash flows is very important: their duration (reserve life) and resiliency (margin). And again, PER SHARE. A lot of these E&Ps are incapable of improving production and cash flows per share over time. Many issuers deplete reserves and dilute to acquire new acreage, at a long term loss to the shareholder when remembering to adjust for shares outstanding.

thanks, learning lots about the specifics of oil and gas investing! While you can't compare MEG and BIR, as it's oil vs gas, what do you do to monitor the relative value between the two sectors to decide where to invest more money?
