    Just had to swap both bulbs on my 06 325xi, this video was a lifesaver. I have a half-inch drop with 18s and there is barely room to squeeze a hand through with the wheel still on. After watching a few times, doing this by feel was much less daunting, hardest part was disconnecting the actual bulb. THANK YOU for making the time all those years ago to explain everything so thoroughly and methodically. Definitely saved me a few hours of frustration.

      That’s awesome. Thanks for the comment! All these years later, I still have the car and love it. I recently rebuilt the entire suspension… installed M3 control arms, sway bar links, new struts and shocks, and replaced the rotors while I was in there. I also had to replace a window regulator in on the back passenger side. 145k miles

    Looked at maybe 10 tuts on this with dudes taking off the wheel the inside wheel arch the whole nine 🙄 this is by far the best one no bs no having to listen to non related foolishness just straight to the point and excellent camera work, I’m an android user myself but kudos to iPhone on this one. I got to rate this vid a 15 out of 10 🤣🤣🤣 I got the whole thing on first watch, I won’t even need a repeat, think I’ll skip the grease tho lol

      Don't Skip the Grease Bro!!
      I had a BITCH of a time getting the wiring plug OFF the old bulb, I had to pull so hard I thought I would break it. And I work out bro :-)
      Finally had to remove the metal retaining clip to take the bulb out and THEN used a screwdriver to wedge the plug off the bulb...
      I have a tiny tube of dielectric grease, you can be sure I dabbed a tiny amount on each bulb plug contact on the new bulb before re-installing. I'll pat myself on the back 5 yrs from now when I am doing this again...

    Thanks for the instructions! Worked great on a 2011 328i. Your video was so detailed that I was able to change my bulb quickly and almost entirely by feel. Three items of note that may have been mentioned elsewhere: 1.) Open the hood to let some light into the engine bay and it becomes easier to see what you are doing and 2.) To release the spring that locks the plastic access cover, push straight UP on the spring with a fair amount of force and 3.) To release the spring that holds the low beam bulb, push and hold FORWARD and then slide to the RIGHT (on driver's side anyway) and it then opens easily.

    This little tutorial gave me exactly the knowledge I needed to walk into this task. I saw several videos telling me to remove the wheel first. Yes, that would make it easier if changing tires, but in real life practice, NOT. It's sloppy wet snow around here but even so, in a unheated garage at -5c, I got it done in less than 15 minutes. Is there nothing about BMW that is not completely opposed to what you know about cars?
    Anyhow, this saved me significant time and was totally spot on. BTW, for people exploring DIY, my car is a 321i which seems to be basically an E90 for all intends and purposes; probably the biggest this for me to find videos is by realizing this.
    Thank you again; consider yourself subscribed to!

    I second Rotek Garcia. I have seen other videos run for less than 5 minutes for the same job, They were OK. But Kris has done a marvelous job focusing on the tabs and clips so well and explaining on how to push the clips and tabs. All with one hand. Bravo. I just got a quote from the dealer for $190 for 2 low beam bulbs. Hope to do it myself. Thanks a bunch Kris. Keep your videos coming

    Very clear instruction. Thank you! It also worked for my 2008 BMW 328i. If it's difficult unplug the socket, using a long nose plier grabbing and pulling the socket may help. I didn't have problem unplugging the high beam but had to use a plier to unplug the low beam socket. Just be careful not to pull too hard to damage the spring that holds the bulb.

    Finally I got the bulbs replaced in 1 Hr. took my sweet time. Just a few observations from my personal experience.
    1) I have a 2010 328i. The process was easy to replace the driver side bulb since you are using your right hand for the job. Also felt that the access to the opening was 1 inch off (compared to Kris's 325i) based on how Kris was able to access the clips and shine the light
    2) The passenger side replacement was relatively hard since you are now working with your left hand. Also it was clear to me that the ease of access to the clips and bulbs was NOT the same as the driver side. I pretty much removed the clips blind with just the feel with my left hand - not too bad. When trying to put the 2 metal clips back, I was literally looking at the ceiling while my left hand did the job. Thanks to Kris's excellent close up shots, I was able to visualize and feel the clips.
    NOTE: I have 16" inch which means small tires means more room in the wheel well area. For folks with 17 or 18 " rims it might be a tiny bit tighter space to work with.
    All in all, I spent $35 for a pair of bulbs and 1 Hr of labor time. Well worth it. Thanks Kris

    I think BMW is against practicality, never had to ask help before or watch tutorials to change a bulb until this E70, the only difference is that the access to the bulb is from the top and 0 visibility, such a headache!
    Thanks so much Kris! I learned something today indeed :)

    This is an excellent video. It allowed me to successfully change the bulb on my 2011 328i X-Drive, left headlamp. I was surprised to note that the door/hatch is pretty much above the tire, so that turning the wheel as far as it can go helps somewhat but the whole space is still very small--I could barely get one hand in to do the various steps. The hardest part for me was removing the wire clamp which holds the bulb in place. I had to use needle-nose pliers to make that work. I could never have done it without this very helpful video.

    This was excellent and very helpful in getting it done. Doing the work with one hand while videoing with the other ... not easy! One suggestion to make it perfect - when you say "move it over with your thumb" for example, specify the direction of movement (e.g. left, right, up, down). The space was so limited that your hand blocked the movement of your thumb. Thanks again!

    Kris, wonderfully clear. If you ever create a video on, instead, replacing the headlight lens assembly, I.e., dropping the bumper, I'd be soooo interested to see it. I'm embarking on this job and can only find sketchy foreign guys (some words I can't understand) who skip steps and such. I'm scared to embark on the repair with the quality and quantity of videos I have seen so far. These bulb lens boxes go after awhile. Mine did at 108k miles. Thanks.

    • @theXchange

      Kris Reese kris, I did locate a 16 year old in mass talented with cars... after watching his video yesterday I did the big repair... I got it done successfully. I went ahead and not only replaced be faulty lens assembly on the drivers side but the 2 fog lights. All very reasonable oem parts at autohausaz. I had a fried socket in the lens assembly. I did break one of the lens washer caps... stupid because one other video suggested removing them and there was no need. I saved 1100 on this repair alone.

    Doing wrong? It does not want become detached at all.
    Would appreciate any help or tips guys.

      It may be corroded. You can try spraying a little WD40 and let it sit for a little, then try wiggling it loose.

    Great video! Thanks! I do have a question (perhaps you have the answer): If you stop the video on 2:44, how do you call that black headlight connector holding the 3 cables that you just unplugged? Mine just burnt out so I need to replace it. Thanks again Kris!

      You’re more likely to have Xenon’s. Base model 335’s all came with those as standard if I recall correctly.

    Where can I access my high beams? I want to change those as well but I can't find a video on that. Great video btw!

    • @theXchange
      @theXchange  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sounds like I should do a video on the high beam :) I’ll see if I can get that done before I take mine in for repair. My oil pan gasket needs replacement and that’s a very involved job. Costs $1100 or so 😬

    • @alejandrocuevas2575
      @alejandrocuevas2575 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would appreciate it if you could! Man that sucks. I've heard its pretty difficult to change the oil pan gasket yourself. Hope it goes well tho!

    • @theXchange
      @theXchange  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Yea, it’s a really involved job, and therefore expensive. I’ve decided to go ahead and have it done though. I’ve been rolling around with it leaking for years. It’s just time. I also need to replace my suspension system. I can upgrade to the M3 system and pay $1400 for all the parts and put them in myself, but winter is upon us, so I’m just doing the back with OEM parts for $212. Saving a ton by doing it myself. Dealer wants more than 1 grand to do just the backs. A specialize BMW repair shop in my area quoted $650. Anyway, my car is in the shop now getting the oil pan gasket replaced + brake fluid flush. I’ll see about doing a vid when I get it back, though I really need to work on the rear shocks. Back one blew completely and knocks like crazy. It’s leaking all over the place!
