Cool to see B1M collaborating with Unreal, the concept is beautiful and worth exploring in your browser with the link in the description, it can be a little laggy but is still really cool to explore if you have the time.
Amazing video. My engineer father took me to see Expo 67 and Safdie's Habitat 67 when I was 14 years old. I look forward to integrating these concepts with transport-integrated infrastructure to simulate and build Habitat for Prosperity as a vital part of a new Prosperity Economy and Infrastructure. Thank you to Epic, B1M, Neoscape, and Moshe Safdie.
The land where this would have been built in Montreal is called Cité du Havre, and it still sits empty, right next to Habitat 67. Meaning this could still be built, exactly where it was envisionned. We just need the right people and the will to do it. Wow! Bring it on!
Wow! That was way ahead of its time and I’m at a loss for why there aren’t more places like this around the world. I’d certainly live there, if I could afford it.
I would love to live there. Image the view from your house, while the community is bustling with life. Everything, so accessible, enjoyable and still realistic (as in not too snobby)
Just absolutely breathtaking. Even as a kid (I was a kid in the 70's), looking around and seeing how buildings are built, Habitat 67 clearly stood out. Always fascinated me. Thanks for this insane amount of work, so we can dive into this wonderful vision.
Just finished having a look at this myself. Really just a stunning achievement. Looking forward to walking around and doing some photography with it. Very optimized as well, ran great without issue here. Sure hope to see more architecture come to life like this. Let's you really know what's technically possible with our home computers now.
Seems a very valuable project, amazing work! It would be great to see a detailed fly through of the building to point out its various features and the reasoning behind them. I'd love to see more of Safdie's reaction too
I really hope this gets implemented in some game, with explorable buildings. After all that work, and the value it would offer to a game, it seems inevitable.
WOW! This is the future of Metaverse. Thanks to all of person involved in the process to create such an experience. Would love to view this in VR. Who is next... Louis Kahn, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando and all of the Master Architects....
I'm usually not a fan of Brutalist architecture, much of it is purposefully ugly and authoritarian, but habitat 67 really does have a beauty all of its own. The solarpunk feeling is simply wonderful.
3:00 honestly 4.000 photos for such a big archviz project sounds like a rather small amount. I would have expected 10 times of that. Wonder how many people were involved in this and how many hours went into the whole process. Is there any insight into this?
I guess I am someone not drawn into video games or 3D rendering. While it all looks marvelous, nothing I saw said “home.” I totally agree that current zoning and the car-centric model has proven its fallacy. I have been looking forwards to a different concept where people might not need to drive. So far the little village of Hobbiton on the LOTR seems homey to me and while there are horse-drawn carts, most of the hobbits walk. The interior of Bilbo’s house at Bag End is certainly livable. I have been in Japan and stayed for a time in tallish concrete apartment structures called Danchi. These certainly work and even feel safe during the worst of typhoons. However as mentioned, each apartment had little garden space and not much in the way of outdoor living. I hope this habitat 67 lives up to all the hype presented. We desperately need something and we need more affordable housing for sure. Modular structures as presented have the potential to reduce costs. I can’t help but wonder how all the plumbing is funneled trough such a “Lego Block” network. I also wonder if thermal efficiency was taken into consideration. Would Habitat 67 work in snow country? Would it work in the tropics?
Well, the current Habitat 67 is built in Montreal, where there is heavy snowfall every winter and has been inhabitated for over 50 years, so I'd say it works in a snow country
@@ginonline5and from what I've read, along with what was said on the other video about this place, families have lived there for decades with waiting lists. It has been said that it gets cold though, but technology has improved quite a bit since it was built so I have no doubt it would be even better done today. Possibly with even more crazy designs since there are newer, stronger and lighter concrete formulations that even absorb CO2 (if that's a concern if yours).
I really love the idea - but I would improve it. Instead of all visible concrete I would brake it up by painting segments white and black and add some bright colour splotches. For the first part it is vital not to follow the physical lines (an error often done on appartment blocks) but to break them - like dazzle camo in WWI. A few bright splotches of colour like signal orange, lime green or light blue would lighten the blockyness and give it an individual touch. Most people prefer concrete/white/black appartments - some prefer the bright painted ones. I would vary the window sizes more. Today, windows can be build a lot bigger than in the late 60ies. But I would throw small ones in the mix, too.
Great job, beautiful images, excellent video production. Unreal Engine is a fantastic software. I am using more and of this software in my Archviz projects. For me the limitation is the amount and cost of video memory it needs even using new RTX video boards. Congratulations Loved it.👏👏👏
very cool... but soooooo ill adapted to the local climate :) ok for the Mediterranean but not the st-laurence river in winter... soooo much exterior envelope....
It is very interesting and I like architectual concepts a lot. Nevertheless I would like to emphazise that humans need nature. We will not live healthy lives in a concrete environment.
we are already living in a concrete environment... Safdie's design actually gives each home a terraced garden, which is more access to nature than many ppl have now =9
TBH the "cutscenes" look *less* real than those clips where a designer just pans around in the environment. must be the "filmlike" smooth camera motion and the "color grading" that ruins the realism.
@@chuckmckinnon2379these views look much better than many aerial views of sprawling cities and suburbs I've seen. It's certainly better looking than the endless parking lots and streets this design was intended to alleviate the need for. It's not the first to use concrete facade either. That being said, new facade could be overlayed on the concrete in a many-varied manner for aesthetics. This could potentially be done to also improve insulation from heat/cold/sound/wind/water. It would increase the cost but it is normal to have a cladding layer on many multistory buildings which exists beyond the load-bearing part of the building. Depending on climate, maybe dyed stuccos or paints. Maybe, brick, pvc panels, stones, wood, etc. And how about some vine-covered trellises on every fourth wall? Different on each building so it doesn't look like one big mountain of concrete.
Amazing Video! I would like to be able to have floor plans and elevations of units and would like to make my own study models for research. If anyone can share it with me, it would be appreciated!!
On that scale it looks much less practical than the existing Habitat. The real one feels practical, it instills the sense of community without destroying individuality. Like you could practically point at your unit from the distance and recognize it. This "original idea" is nothing like it, I feel. It's overbearing, It looks like your usual skyscrapers just leaning on each other. It does nothing to use space more rationally, while casting even bigger shadow to a space underneath with no apparent benefit to each unit, except maybe that small terrace? I understand the appeal of the actually realized building, but this really feels like those megaprojects built just to look cool with no practicality.
average red pilled american response, there’s a whole diverse planet to see why shouldn’t a spectacle like this exist it doesn’t mean it’s main built purpose is to be a “slum”
Fantastic to work with you on this guys 🙌

This has a very Solarpunk feel to it. I hope this style of architecture gets built more in the near future
Solarpunk?

Really interesting to see it in a 3D environment, thanks for the vid!
