    Hey everyone, welcome back to my channel! In this video we go over step-by-step instructions on how to remove and modify the fat suit padding for The Mandalorian by Hot Toys in order to improve his articulation and posing abilities. Although the "Beskar Deluxe" figure is featured, this modification process also works for the original Durasteel Mandalorian!

    What I like about these videos is they show how durable Hot Toys really are. We tend to handle them with kid gloves, but they can actually be pushed pretty hard without having to worry.

      Thanks so much for watching and sharing your positive feedback! I wholeheartedly agree -- there's a common misconception that Hot Toys are made out of paper and will crumble if you pose them or breathe on them too hard, and I really enjoy showcasing that these incredible posable works of art are anything but fragile. Granted they do each have safety risks and areas of concern, but they're definitely more durable than people give credit so I'm really glad you share the same sentiment 😊

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed the Phicen M33 body swap is probably best mod for the figure -- keeps him looking fit while improving his posability plenty. The only downside is the extra $70-100 USD. I personally couldn't justify that since Beskar Mando Deluxe was already over $300, but I respect those who do it, cause it looks damn good! 🤩

      Thanks so much! I really appreciate your compliments and support ☺️🙏
      For Loki, I wrapped black twist-ties around the handles of the daggers then attached them to his wrist pegs. I tend to use black twist ties for my causal wire work since they're subtle and blend-in with most figure bodies/clothing as they're not so reflective compared to usual silver wire. Hope that helps!

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! They're just black twist-ties that come with various electronics that wrap the power cables in their packaging, and I use them in particular because they blend in better than the traditional silver wire.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I’m fairly certain it voids warranty. Usually any kind of alteration / unauthorized modifications like this do void the warranties of products, so I’d only recommend doing this if you do not want to void your warranty. I’m guessing that this mod will also affect the re-sale value.

    New sub here, quick question: is there anyway to modify
    spider-man’s suits the same way you modified this mando figure?? I’m new to the Hot Toys game and recently-ish, and I have the HT’s AoU Hulkbuster and PS4’s Iron Spider figure. I know limited posing is kinda the cost of doing business for spider-man figures, but if there is a way to modify the spider-man figures to allow for more posing, I’d be down to try it

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ayy welcome to the channel and thanks so much for your support! Congrats on your AoU Hulkbuster and Iron Spider 🤩
      There is indeed a way to modify Spidey figures but it's no where near as easy as this video. Mando's costume is mostly loose fabric that's held together with Velcro, meanwhile Spidey figures are sewn /stitched together (the seams are under the armpits and along the sides of the body), so removing and reattaching his suit requires a bit of skill in that department. Additionally once the Spidey suit is removed, the main method to improving his figure's articulation is by shaving off chunks of plastic around the groin so his legs can go higher. Although this would allow the figure to pose better, the other concern is the durability of his suit -- each Spidey figure can be made of different materials, most of which are susceptible to paint damage or permanent creases. It's for these reasons that most collectors don't really pose their Spidey figures aggressively in order to keep the figure in good condition.
      Hope that info helps!

    is it bad that I got the chrome mando, and within an hour of opening it, I had this video up, the figure ripped open, and cutting the fat suit? This video just made it so easy to follow for a first time Modder. Thank you for the videos!

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha that’s not a bad thing at all! Some purist collectors might argue that you’ve “ruined a perfectly good figure” but personally I’ve always been of the mindset that we paid for them with our own hard-earned money so we have every right to do whatever we want with it.
      At the end of the day as long as you’re able to enjoy your figure (stock or modified) then that’s all that matters. I’m really glad you found this video helpful for your first modification - and now you can always go back in to add/remove as much padding as you like 🙌
      Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback! Happy posing! 😁

    Hey bud I love the channel just started and subed. I have a question how durable are hot toys? I kinda like to pose and play with my stuff if I spend this much money 😜

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ayy thanks so much for watching / subbing / commenting with your positive feedback 😊 And welcome to the world of Hot Toys!
      In terms of “how durable are they”, it really varies on multiple factors. Not only do the materials differ for each character (plastic, diecast metal, soft fabrics, pleather etc) but climate and posing also impact the overall longevity. Hot and humid climates do the most harm since the materials begin to crack & flake a lot faster so keeping them in a controlled environment with low humidity is ideal.
      Posing in itself is one of the biggest dilemmas in the Hot Toys community. Indeed these are very expensive which is why many collectors prefer to keep their Hot Toys in safer “museum” style poses - to increase the longevity and maintain potential resale value. However there are plenty of passionate posers like me who prefer adding a little dynamism to the figures. It definitely comes at the cost of losing resale value since dynamic poses tend to stretch & pull the fabrics more thus causing creases, winkles, even damage sometimes… but ultimately it all comes down to personal preference. If you plan to resell the figures at the highest possible value in the future, then probably best to not pose them very much… but if you like to pose & play with your stuff, then I’d say pose to your heart’s content 😉
      If you’re on Facebook then check out the group “Sixth Scale Posers” - I think I have a link in the description box but it’s a group of fellow passionate posers that often showcase their work and are also very welcoming to new collectors like yourself. I hope this info helps, and perhaps I’ll see ya over in the Facebook group 😁

    I did it with season 2 chrome mando and it's exactly the same step by step I was so iffy about doing it also this is only my second figure but then just said screw it and the end result is so much better btw I used hot glue to keep the pads in place instead of tape cuz I felt like I'd hear the crinkling of the tape as I posed him😂😂 so as someone who did it for the first time ever on only my second owned figure I would say take your time and try it out if you get to a point where you feel like you'll break something just put it back together no harm no foul but definitely watch this video if your going to do it

    Do you have the death maul figure from the phantom menace? He’s mostly very pose-able but like mando, he struggles to lift his arms and legs up. The fat suit on him is such a pain in the ass especially when his clothes are really baggy + loose anyway so the tight fat suit shouldn’t be needed.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do own Darth Maul from Phantom Menace but mine is the Sideshow version which didn't come with a fat suit. I suppose you could try removing the fat suit from your Darth Maul figure if it hinders his movement.

    I notice that your Deadpool is posed in some weird way. Are you not scared that his costume will get damaged from posing it for long time?

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's actually already damaged, hence the long term dynamic pose.
      For context, Deadpool 1.0 was among the first five figures in my collection back when it released a few years ago. He was brand new and even though I kept him in safe poses as a new collector, the suit began falling apart on its own (knee pads & various straps unglued, the black pleather parts flaked etc). From this, I learned that these figures really don't last very long even if you're careful so I pose them more aggressively now in order to enjoy them while I can 😁

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely! I'm happy to share right here, no video necessary 😅 For Iron Spider, I've got him suspended mid-air using a metal bar that's wedged between the frame of the detolf (I featured it in my video for Miles Morales when Peter Parker is stuck to the ceiling holding Miles by his belt). As for Loki, I just used black twist-tie wires to prop up his knives -- if you rewatch that part of the video and look closely, you can see black twist-ties around the handles of the knives that then connect to his wrist pegs. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching/commenting!

    Great video! I'm a little bit hesitant to destroy the fat man suit though. Just wondering, what is it that's hindering the articulation, is it the fat man suit itself or is it the size that pulls on the fabric during articulation? If it's the suit itself, I'm just wondering if anyone has tried replacing the body with a muscular body from World Box or any of the other 1/6 manufacturers that have more articulation and that are of a bigger size to eliminate some of the bagginess?

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching & commenting! Totally understandable not wanting to destroy the fat suit, especially if ya ever plan to resell the figure. Fortunately pieces of paper towel or tissue can work too.
      In terms of what's causing the restriction in articulation, for me it was the fat suit itself. Upon experimenting with my OG Mando last year, I tried cutting the fat suit at the joints while leaving it all attached to see if I could improve articulation while keeping his bulk but unfortunately the long sleeve was still feeling really tight due to the padding around his body (hence why I didn't bother to include it here).
      I have seen some collectors replace the whole body with Phicen M33 -- makes him very posable while looking very natural as well. The only downside is that figure body can cost around $80-100 USD which I wasn't willing to spend. More power to those who do though 🤑😁

      Haha yeah it’s definitely not for everyone but I’m glad you still enjoyed the process. Thanks for watching!

    Great video! I kept the whole fat suit but just made some oval incisions at the joints. That freed up his ROM.

      Thanks! And nice! I tried that approach on my durasteel Mando by just slicing the padded joints while leaving all the padding still attached inside. Although his range of motion did improve, the upper chest padding still made his shirt a bit too tight for my personal liking. He definitely looked a lot healthier and fuller when the padding was still intact though 😅
      I'm glad that works out for ya! Thanks for watching & commenting 😁

    How is this ok to do without damaging the figure?
    This is waaaaay too risky.
    Also do you need to modify the pads in order the pose him in the walking pose?

      Ahh yeah I mention in the video that modding isn't really required nor meant for everyone. Indeed it can be quite risky if you're unfamiliar with the process so my goal for the video was to help apprehensive collectors become more familiar, confident, and comfortable with it -- as always, do what works best for you 😉
      And no, you don't need to modify him to do the waking pose. It does help tremendously, but not required.

      Yeah as mentioned in the video it was a half-assed mod job... just wanted to get the main points across for the modification process. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks so much! I'm really glad you're still able to enjoy the video despite not even owning Mando... I guess I'm doing something right 😅 Congrats on your Yondu figure! Wow what a grail piece. I did feature Yondu in a couple poses for my video for Nebula so be sure to check that out!
