Not a chance on the Pro, as it's this gen with bells and whistles. Great kit, but not for me. I've gone for Pico 4, with only slightly less bells and whistles, but better FOV and res than the Pro, for less than a quarter of the price. We won't see a true next gen standalone until they're using the XR2 Gen2. The Quest 3 is a year away, most likely and there may be other headsets nipping at its heels by then. Until then, I'll play my Steam, Rift games and watch media on the far more comfortable Pico 4, with its better display.
I think these are some very understandable reasons not to upgrade. For me the Pico 4 is perfect as I'm upgrading from a Rift S and want something with superior comfort. I couldn't bring myself to buy a Quest 2 since it didn't feel like a substantial enough upgrade, but the Pico 4's pancake lenses and new controllers had me on board for a new purchase.
I'm in the same boat, upgrading from a Rift S :) Happy to know I'm not the only one! We can experience the wireless VR and with Virtual Desktop PCVR should be good too! Looks like mines coming Thursday! I would have bought the G2 but the price in the UK is £600+ which is just insulting tbh... be cool to see this new lens tech and wider FOV.
@@Nevercash Funny, the G2 went on sale where I am, and I was considering buying it, but my hair makes it hard to get the sweet spot of fresnel lenses and I frequently step on my cord, so the Pico 4 will hopefully last longer for me, not to mention its highly appealing comfort factor. I am importing the headset so hopefully I will get mine before the end of the month!
I got my Rift S about six months before the Quest 2 dropped, and I remember being so frustrated that I could have had a significantly better headset had I waited a little longer. I never got the Quest 2, because I had a fully servicable setup then, and later because of all Facebook's dodgy practices. My dream headset would be the Pimax 12K Oled, but I expect that will also necessitate the purchase of a new high-end gaming PC to properly run it, and Pimax has a bit of a reputation around launching new products. The Pico 4 is very much on my radar right now for my next headset when it comes to the US.
@@dakforest5344 yeah I bought my rift S at the start of the pandemic so I paid a lot more than it was worth! Looking forward to trying out the Pico 4 it should be coming today!
I have to correct you on something... you say that the resolution increase is only slighty in pico 4. Actually The resolution increase is MORE than 50% from quest 2 to pico 4. Quest 2 uses one panel so it loses a lot of pixels because of that due to low panel utilization. Just to see how much they lose because of having only one panel you can watch the meta connect when they say that the quest pro has 37% more pixels. Quest pro uses 2 panels so much better panel utilization than quest 2. So put that 37% and add the rest from 1800x1920 to 2160x2160 and you have a CONSIDERABLY higher resolution than quest 2.
@@RushReality Yet another advantage that pico 4 has is because of the pancake lenses they basically don't need to use extra resolution for the distortions of the lenses like quest 2 does. So they can instead use that resolution to make the image overall sharper or just use the performance room that it's left to make the games better graphically. Because of it, the 2 GB extra of ram and SUPPOSEDLY the better xr2 ( it's not as underclocked as quest 2 xr2 it seems) the devs can make better games on pico 4 than quest 2, especially those that are exclusives.
@@ancaro8771 Not sure if the Pico 4 will be getting any exclusives, but... even though it's not as underclocked as the XR2 for the Quest 2, the resolution is significantly higher so that would already require more processing power. I do think it's a bit of a shame the company didn't go the extra mile to also get an improved XR2 chip and a display that's capable of better contrast. Oh well, maybe in a Pico 4 Neo (not the Pro at least) or a Pico 5.
@@thenonexistinghero the panel resolution does not matter. It's the rendered resolution that matter. quest 2 games rendered resolution is lower than the panel resolution.
Opinions. I think you're doing down the Pico 4 a little. It's cheaper than the Quest 2, has better resolution, it's way lighter than the Quest 2, has pancake lenses and it is a much better fit straight out of the box. And remember this is less than a year since the Pico 3 came out. Pico are saying they've already sold out. Good for them. If they can get the American Market open they will definitely put Meta on the back foot. Game developers will start porting their product to the Pico 2 (exclusives excluded) and I say good luck to them. Obviously, as you say, if you've already got a Quest 2 it might not be worth it, but I'm coming from a Quest 1 and can't wait to get my hands on it.
Yes, I agree. Pico is doing a good job of making "Zukkaburgs" Quest products look worse in operations, and Zukkaburg won't have a monopoly of wireless VR anymore. And yes I am misspelling Zukkaburg on purpose wrong.
I think you might regret ignoring the Pico 4. Come on man, amazing quality pancake lenses...now! It's a massive difference. I don't care about standalone much but the option is there too.
It would have been an instant buy for me and i bet many others if they had added just one very inexpensive thing to the Pico4 ... a display port connection like they already had on the Pico 3 link. A massive missed opportunity by Pico to tie in all the simming community who want uncompressed video.
I ordered the Quest Pro like "just shut up and take my money!" And I'd do the same with Pico 4 if the darn thing was available in the US. The Quest 2 is just not doing it for me anymore. Blurry & uncomfortable. I'd have paid anything for even a marginal upgrade.
Pico 4 has a massively different form factor than the quest 2. Out of the box anyways, I have had to mod my quest2 to get just right but have a ton of accessories along the way in the quest to get it right.
Yeah I don’t think there was much needed. It’s too close of an experience to that that of the quest 2 to warrant paying out a second time. I don’t feel they are trying to get existing users to purchase more people who are are thinking of buying into VR but don’t yet have a stand-alone headset.
They were pretty clear that it's not a gaming device. It's meant to be an AR device. The 1-2 hours is probably just referring to AR applications that would make heavy use of the cameras. With passthrough off, it probably has a similar battery life to the Quest 2.
Quest 2 software is amazing. But if they added a smart rifle stock mod, lighter headset, smaller form factor, easier to maintain sweet spot, improved the compression through AirLink, swappable battery docks, I wouldve gotten one for maybe $500. Currently, running Virtual Desktop, I dont need heavy computing power as the real heavy lifting is done by my PC. Improved visuals, comfort, form factor, weight. That's what I need. I currently modded mine with Deluxe Audio Strap, headphone amp, bobovr cooling face mask system a d 10,000 mah battery. Things that make the headset heavier. Although, I can still game for hours with this setup because of the balanced weighting, Id still opt for a headset that's much lighter than my current headset while still offering the same lag free wireless experience (Virtual Desktop, ASUS RT-AX55 on 65mhz channel), superior audio, battery life, face mask cooling and easier sweet spot managent
Solid video, I felt exactly the same way after the Connect event. Like you, I also have a Quest 2 and a Reverb G2. But I've spent the past week obsessing over it and I really believe the new features, mixed reality, eye and face tracking, the new self tracking controllers, the form factor, even the charging dock that will require me to create a space on the dressing table for my new device rather than throw it on the floor like my jeans when I get into bed will make this headset immeasureably more exciting and thrilling to use than anything I've owned before. I've recently been reading Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harrari where he predicts the future of humanity, and its interesting how every time new technology comes along, ordinary folks don't recognise its value at all. Even in the short history of Oculus/Meta they have been proven correct multiple times introducing new features that the community railed against saying they were crap, inside out tracking for example, one of the most fundamental VR features now. When they announced they were making a standalone headset nobody in the community wanted. We were all screaming for a Rift Pro and crappy standalone with mobile graphics would be a race to the bottom and the death of VR. Of course, we now nearly all have Quests, and like them so much that now Meta do offer a Pro headset everyone is like, this sucks we want Quest 3 not this overpriced garbage. There's also a tendancy for us to only appreciate what we already know. So when people thing better headsets they think higher resolutions, higher refresh rates, better FOV etc. It's very hard for us to imagine entirel new experinces, like for example inside out tracking, standalone VR, wireless PCVR, etc. Now the new tech coming with this headset is even harder to conceptualise, mixed reality pass through, eye tracking, facial recognition and emotion mimicking, the new open form factor etc. When calculating the price people are just looking at the resolution, the FOV, whether it has a displayport and not putting any value on the new features, because they cannot really imagine what they will be used for. But just think, Meta have been at the forefront of VR for the past six years. They are routinely working with tech that is maybe a decade away from what we as consumers will experience. They are like Captain Kirk in his command chair in the Star Ship Enterprise, and they have scanned a distant planet that is giving off abundunt life signals so sets a course for warp speed, whilst we as consumers are basically refilling the soup machine down in the store room, without even a window to look out of, and we're saying that Kirk needs to change course, that he doesn't know what he's doing. I fully believe Meta know what how good this tech will be, and how revolutionary. The fact that one of their biggest rivals, Microsoft, who have their own Hololens and WMR platform are throwing in their hat with them and bring Windows 11, Office 365, Xbox gamepass and cloudgaming pretty much suggests they expect Meta to be a player in the enterprise industry and that this development is going to be big. So I've gone from disinterested, to a zealous advocate over the past several days. Cognitive dissonance is a powerful emotion!
I was going to do that but the price in the UK is a rip off compared to everywhere else in the world. $350 in the US and $800 in the UK.... it's not worth that for a 2020 headset.
Deckard isn't coming out for quite a while though, considering that they recently seemed to be looking for the type of person you'd need in the early stages of VR development. You can bet on it taking a good 18-24 months at the very least. Besides that, I'm assuming the PS VR2 will be made to work with the PC shortly after release because... it has OLED displays capable of HDR. So pretty much highly wanted features in VR that no one else right now offers and likely won't for a while for a reasonable price. I'd be surprised if the PC VR community doesn't embrace this since nothing else would be able to provide an equal experience (I don't count the extremely expensive Varjo XR3 that also requires an expensive yearly fee).
Tried a quest pro briefly at best buy. the ar mode without the sides was my first good ar experience, broke my brain a bit. Anyway buying a used index.
Knew about the Pico 4 coming and i still got a used Q2 for bout $300, with a strap, cover and case. 64 gb version since i'm gonna play PCVR. Y'all think this was a good move? The pico 4 would've set me back about $500, maybe more with import charges. This will be my first VR headset so I don't have anything to compare to.
How about pancake lenses? Edge to edge clear vision with no need to find sweet spot is tempting for me. Not to mention Pico has better resolution and slight bigger field of view than even Q pro. I'm Q2 user since the beginning but I might consider switching to PICO 4 while waiting for Q3. Maybe it's only a matter of 1 year but who knows. Many things might happen and force delay or even cancellation of Q3 especially with looming nuclear war on Ukraine or possible China USA confrontation.
Clayton Morris from Redacted reported that the Biden administration launched an economic attack that all Americans working in China will lose their US citizenship if they do not quit their jobs over there. Every American executive and engineer working in China's semiconductor manufacturing industry resigned paralyzing Chinese manufacturing overnight about 2 days ago. China is really going to take over Taiwan now in which they produce the largest quantity of chips in the world. So do you think this will affect the VR headset companies since a lot of the parts for these headsets come from Asia ?
You make some great points, I'm certainly with you on the Quest Pro! I own a Q2, but I'm giving the Pico a try - I play PCVR almost exclusively, and have recently started watching TV/Films in VR - which is great but the heavy weight of the Q2 makes it a less than ideal experience. My only real concern with Pico is the battery life - I love my Quest Elite Battery, so I'm hoping third parties can come up with some good ways to extend battery life, I'm sure they will.
@@domjan2973 Aha, that seems like a good short term solution! I think it could benefit from the dock being better moulded to the shape of the Pico, but it's a tried and tested method nonetheless.
I am still on Rift S and honestly I am still not sure if I should get anything else right now. Hope to hear good things about Pico 4 and flight simulators.
Problem with Meta is they're pushing so very hard for mass MR adoption, when the tech is still very, very far from that happening. They're way too early and will spend probably the next decade disappointing people every year with empty promises to keep their investors happy....trying to please everyone and end up pleasing no one
better resolution doesn't matter at all at the moment.. Q2 doesn't use its existing full resolution most of the time as there is no enough processing power ... , If you bump up the resolution to max the Q2 really struggles ,for real upgrade we need better FOV, processing power, eye confort/ease of use...
This video saved me from buying the Pico4, i didn't knew it was from TikTok owners. I will never buy a VR set for hundreds of euros and allow one of those companies to additionally map my house and sell that data to others.
Been waiting for ages to jump to a new device, I am on the Oculus Rift and the Pico 4 at 400 euro seems like a good step out without ripping my wallet in half
The argument against buying the Pico 4 is pretty bad. Sure, if you have a Quest 2, you do have most of the functionality, but: > Comfortable out of the box (for most people) with excellent weight distribution. In fact, it's pretty much the most comfortable VR headset you can currently buy. > Better IPD range. Quest 2 simply doesn't cut it for me. > Far better sweet spot thanks to the pancake lenses. > Resolution is much better. The Quest 2 has a single display that is lower resolution than each of the 2 Pico 4 displays. And going by what I read from others who used it, the extra clarity is pretty damn noticable and not 'slight'. The software is a bit worse and of course Pico doesn't have as many games on the store, but if you mainly want wireless PC VR... the Pico 4 is the best headset out there bar none. And well, it'll probably be a while before there's a better alternative for wireless PC VR out there. If you care about the overal VR experience and intend to mainly use it for PC VR, then I'd say the Pico 4 might be worth considering for an upgrade even if you do own a Quest 2, depending on how much importance you place on comfort, IPD range, etc. Heck, even selling your current Quest 2 would cover most of the cost for a Pico 4 (but I would only recommend doing so if you haven't bought anything significant from the Oculus store). If there's anything my HP Reverb G2 has taught me is that... an IPD of 68 isn't enough for me and that I'm more than willing to make some sacrifices in image quality to get rid of the f***ing cable.
I am also ready for a new VR headset but everything you mentioned in this Video is dead on what I already thought about the Quest Pro and Pico 4. I almost pulled the trigger on the Varjo Aero more then once but the 3 things that really bothered me about that was no headphones, microphone and the price was a little off for me to understand. For now I will continue to use my Pimax 8K X, Quest 2, PSVR and even still a bit of the Oculus go. I owned a lot of VR headsets, recently Index but sold it, and HP reverb G2 sold it because didn't like the strap and software. I am still really looking forward on Pimax Crystal and Pimax 12K but knowing Pimax that still might be a long while and still might miss the November release date that I have heard about.
Very interesting. I haven’t discounted the pimax crystal or 12k but previous experiences have made me insure whether they could be my main device. I’m hoping they will have worked hard to on the software and can really impress. The PSVR 2 will be fairly must have for me but I’m thinking of it as a slightly different class of device. Do you find your using the 8K X the most or the Quest?
@@RushReality I barely touch my Quest. Pimax 8K X is my daily driver, used between 6 to 12 hours a day everyday. Runs well with a 3080TI and I 9 9900K. I Also am looking forward to the PSVR2 and will be a 1st day purchase.

"Next Gen price for something that isn't quite next-gen" basically sums up the take of most people. I ordered anyway because I am tired of quest 2, and I think with a few firmware/software updates, it will get closer to what you expect. But ya I agree with most of what you said in this video.
A lot of money was spent on researching AR and all the new tracking systems. But in the end, they came up with a product that isn't much more powerful than Quest 2, with a limited number of new applications. The high cost of the new device is because of all the irrelevant research that couldn't even find good applications on this personal device. I don't think businesses will spend money on this 723g heavy headset.
I’d actually recommend the Quest 2 over Pico 4 in 2022. You can actually snatch a new one or a barely used one for lower than its original price, and even lower than Pico 4 prices, which is supposed to be lower than the Quest 2. Moreover, with the Pico 4 having just recently come out, it will probably be hard to find good prices that isn’t marked up by some amount if you can’t order from Pico themselves and have to buy from a third-party vendor. The software also isn’t as mature as the Quest 2, which you may think don’t matter since the hardware is decked out, but what’s the point of buying a better headset if you can’t even use it the way you want in software? The hardware is there to make the software work. Exclusive games aside, it lacks the giant library of the Quest 2 and the UI isn’t as mature. Pico 4 could be an S+ tier headset in like a year or two but as an early adopter, you are missing a lot right out of the gate and may need to wait for a long time until your purchase pays off. However, by then, you’re probably already jumping on the next best consumer headset. Better yet, the peripherals, the Quest 2 has been out for so long and people have created so many products to up your experience with it, some of which might not be compatible with the brandnew Pico 4, which has had little time to mature. Actually, I just snatched a full Quest 2 setup with Bobovr F2, M2 Plus, Battery Pack, Prescription Lenses & Blue Light Blocking, Storage Case all for the price of less than a SINGLE Pico 4. Specs isn’t everything, and the price of the Pico 4 is a subtle message to consumers to put up with the generally worse experience, despite the higher specs until the software and peripherals can be sufficiently developed to up the experience. I’d say, use the money you’re gonna use for the Pico 4 and get the Quest 2 and peripherals, use it for 2 years or more, then upgrade to the Quest 3.
Valid points. Same as myself for the most part. Good video! Thumbs up If it was $1500 I'd consider it. I do like the color passthrough and I'd be able to live with the controller battery life with frequent charging. Headset battery life is a bit of an issue however
If I were advising anyone else I'd tell them to just wait a year as not only does the Q3 seem like it'll have all the important stuff the pro has (eye and face tracking are missing but probably won't see much support due to not being in any mainline headsets, exclusive to pro ones for now) but with the additon of a whole new generation of chip and gpu so we can expect a new generation of games. All that PLUS HTC and Valve are up to something and I'd like to see what... But me? I bought the pro because I don't have the patience to wait a year and I had the money :P Carmack said the battery is larger than the Q2's and will probably last longer than the Q2's if you're not using the pro features (aka eye and face tracking). The controllers last up to 8 hours which is a full work day before you just stick them on the dock to charge for 2 hours :3
"Zukaburg" is only interested in the Social aspects of VR, he could care less about all the gamers. That is why all the Quest headsets are tied to META. He wants you to play in his stupid Metaverse. I have better things to do than wander around talking to Avatars I don't know and why they are there.
He doesnt invest heavily with game company like he used to be such as Asgarth, medal of honor, lone echo, stormland. Most Quest games are ported version of pc vr games
TL;DW: The Quest Pro has a stupidly high price and no battery life and Connect was a flop for gaming. The Pico 4, while a great headset, is not a generation above the Quest 2, so people who already own a Quest 2 and aren't swimming in money really don't need the upgrade.
I am still with my old good HTC Vive, the first one. I just didn't think a Quest would give me a better performance. Do you think Pico 4 is a great upgrade now? Is it the time to shelve my Vive?
@@daffyhere Eh, now, you're not gonna get the same level of quality with it on PCVR, there's gonna be some compression, but tbh being wireless, lighter and newer is worth
That is not my excuse, I could still get it from the UK Amazon if I really wanted the PICO 4. The Pico headsets are out of stock right now anyway. I just want to wait some more months to see where wireless is going and if the software and hardware improve more. I have 2 tethered VR headsets I can tie directly to my GPU, so I have plenty of time to decide what the next VR will be for me and the cost.
you can buy it from amazon europe with no issue. you are too accustomed tohaving it stupidly way too easy. just make 2 click outside of your comfort zone...
It's not available on the US Amazon, but I'm getting my Pico 4 imported from the German Amazon, and it's already arriving in 4 days, and I ordered the headset 2 days ago. Costed basically the same as a Quest 2.
Totally agree on your opinion of the Quest Pro but you are underestimating how much better experience the Pico 4 provides Honestly using the Pico 4 compared to Quest 2 or Index for PC VR is world's apart due to the higher resolution and pancake lenses, I've tried the Quest Pro but it's massively overrated and overpriced, I honestly prefer the Pico 4 for PC gaming If you have a Quest 2 and mainly play PC VR then selling it to upgrade to a Pico 4 is a no brainer, but if you have a large stand alone library then maybe wait until the community figures out how to side load Quest titles on the Pico 4 pretty sure this won't take too long 😉 Selling a Quest 2 to buy a Pico 4 is well worth it as it provides a massive visual update for a fairly small investment Have to admit that Pico 4 facial interface is not perfect to but it's ok, and third party ones are already in development
The Quest Pro seems more like a public dev-kit to produce software for the Quest 3. I get my Pico 4 today, but don't and will never own a Meta-headset, so it's my first wireless HMD. I hope it's better than my Vive Cosmos at least😛
Unrelated but do you need top-tier internet for wireless pcvr streaming? I wanna get the pico 4 but my wifi is just alright and im worried there might be a lot of latency.
everyone recomends wifi 6 router. It could work on a good wifi 5 router , but you need ethernet cable conected to pc, router close to vr set, to limit all the interference that could temper your bandwith. There is a good reddit disscusion about it. look it up
Basically, your download/upload speed doesn't matter as everything is done within your local network. What matters is a good router, no interference (no other devices on the network), and being close to the router.
I don't like the pico 4 controllers and don't like the quest pro since most hardware is spent for mixed reality like bro I just want a darn vr to play some games
The only thing "pro" in the Quest Pro is the price. It seems they trying to go the Apple way: for fanboys who need to show off how much they can spend on a device regardless the lack of substantial improvement. The Pico 4 looks more down to earth in terms of what it offers for the buck. A no brainer if you don't already own a headset.
I didn't place an order for the same reason, as based on some summaries on TH-cam. The Pico 4 appeals, but the main draw is the pancake lenses, in the interests of being rid of those infernal god rays. I thought the Meta Pro was going to have vastly superia resolution to the Quest 2, but reportedly not. Quite a let down.
I'm very disappointed with the Quest Pro too. There is no excuse for them to launch such an expensive headset with a resolution worse than Pico 4 which is 4 times cheaper. Going for business use and skipping gamers and casuals can't end well. I'm not a gamer guy, just like to chill on my couch, browse internet and watch movies or TH-cam or take it with me when I travel. I would've still paid the high price for this one if Meta did improve on the resolution and FOV but right now I'm just gonna wait for either Pico 4 Pro, PSVR 2 or the new lightweight headset which Vive is teasing.
I hate youtuber who reviews other youtubers reviews. If you had done a bit of research, the Quest Pro's battery lasts longer than the Quest 2, it's all about not having face/eyes tracking enabled. If you want to play VR games, the image is clearer and the blacks really approach OLED. The controllers, according to buz, last 5-8 hours, if you do AR then it's 5h otherwise it's 6-8 hours. There will also be battery packs that will attach to the headset and extend the autonomy.
i don't understand why it would be so difficult to sell your quest 2 and buy the pico 4 which is cheaper and WAY better. pancake lenses and more resolution is already enought. but it also has the color passwthourgh and also so much freaking lighter. do what you want, but it's clearly a big upgrade. quest 3 is a year from being released. i won't wait them.
the pico is also a downgrade when you look at the game store too it just does not match the content on the oculus store, aslo the uk only launch is kinda bs too
Pretty ridiculous that having done what was necessary to gain the greater market share they then spurn that community? Reportedly have invested a great deal in VR. Reportedly gotten good returns from their game store. Reportedly they are still well in the red though. Seems even more ridiculous to spurn the source of the success you have? Love the look of the Pico4, the light weight small form factor, the pancake lenses, the balance of the device. Not having a headphone jack seems so stupid and dropping support for display port compatibility not much better. It's great that they built in a better audio solution but it's still not premium. Wireless streaming is great too, but it doesn't have the same quality as display port driven graphics from a good PC. If it had dual or quad channel 6E wireless that might be a big enough improvement to balance discarding display port but it's just single band wireless6. Reportedly the pancake lenses improve the viewing experience a great deal though? I won't get one. Doubt I'll get another headset until something comes out that's a good deal better and still reasonably priced, at least somewhat reasonble. Might be waiting for a while I guess?
This is unusual, but I pretty much agree with everything you see. Quest Pro - Too expensive, end of story. Pico 4 - Interesting headset with some nice upgrades, and if I didn't already have a Quest 2 it would be something to consider (if it were offered in the US, which it's not). But the bottom line is it's got the same processor as the Quest 2, so I don't think it's worth upgrading. As for mixed reality, yeah, the last thing I want is Zombies coming around the corner in my actual house. I swear people are going to start becoming unhinged when that becomes commonplace. I might actually get a Reverb G2 for sims, you can get those pretty cheap on Ebay now. Liked and subscribed.
The quest pro has longer battery life then the q 2, obviously if you have all the face tracking shit on, it will last shorter. Don't understand why everyone is so confused about this. The controllers actually last 5-8. (ب_ب) Stop spreading misleading information.
It's worth it for not having the awful lenses that the Quest 2 has alone, not to mention the comfort and not having a red face and a headache. Hell, even the Pico 4 blows the Quest 2 out of the water. On top of that it is full of hidden features the public doesn't know about yet but they will "unlock" and pass off as updates for simple minded TH-camrs (it has 144, if you know how to unlock their os which is the simplest os to decode. You mills and zooms have no clue how to work technology).
Is the Quest Pro or the Pico 4 exciting enough to convince you to order?

Fair shout, thanks for clarifying!
It would have been an instant buy for me and i bet many others if they had added just one very inexpensive
thing to the Pico4 ... a display port connection like they already had on the Pico 3 link.
A massive missed opportunity by Pico to tie in all the simming community who want uncompressed video.
I laughed out loud when they said the battery life. Who the hell is this even for?
I’d say dead in the water.
I have heard a lot of people saying the facial interface for pico 4 is bad. Light leakage and uncomfortable, so you might have to buy a mod anyways.
Many quest 2 users will wait for next gen models. But basically we need the varjo aero specs at 500-700$
The Pico 4 Pro seems compelling
for the pico 4 you said a whole lot of nothing...
Yeah I don’t think there was much needed. It’s too close of an experience to that that of the quest 2 to warrant paying out a second time. I don’t feel they are trying to get existing users to purchase more people who are are thinking of buying into VR but don’t yet have a stand-alone headset.
You basically nailed how I felt about the release.
They were pretty clear that it's not a gaming device. It's meant to be an AR device. The 1-2 hours is probably just referring to AR applications that would make heavy use of the cameras. With passthrough off, it probably has a similar battery life to the Quest 2.
I totally agree with you! Great video take care.
I fully agree on all points. I just ordered a Reverb G2v2, for the time until the Index 2 / Deckard comes out - i hope that it will not disappoint. :)
@@marpex-market Exactly 68
Just wondering can you do party chat between pico and quest 2, that would be a deal breaker for me?
I think the same about this new hmds ... not a gen 2/3 at all. Cheers !
Mine arrived today. Can't wait any longer to get into VR so had to be the Pico4 😀

1-2 hours for the pro is unforgiveable. Especially since its aimed at businesses and productivity, most people dont work for only one hour.
ordered pico 4, hoping its an improvement to my rift S
I am still on Rift S and honestly I am still not sure if I should get anything else right now. Hope to hear good things about Pico 4 and flight simulators.
Problem with Meta is they're pushing so very hard for mass MR adoption, when the tech is still very, very far from that happening. They're way too early and will spend probably the next decade disappointing people every year with empty promises to keep their investors happy....trying to please everyone and end up pleasing no one
I 100% agree with everything you said. I'm still waiting. I'm trying to get a 4090 right now.
better resolution doesn't matter at all at the moment..
I guess it's wait until Quest 3 for something new? Spring? In the wings could be a Valve Deckard?
For me biggest upgrades and most important is comfort! So I ordered pico 4 and quest pro
Been waiting for ages to jump to a new device, I am on the Oculus Rift and the Pico 4 at 400 euro seems like a good step out without ripping my wallet in half
The argument against buying the Pico 4 is pretty bad. Sure, if you have a Quest 2, you do have most of the functionality, but:
> Comfortable out of the box (for most people) with excellent weight distribution.

Surely you will review the Pimax Crystal? that seems like the next big thing.. especially if they fix their software
Good video! Thumbs up
If it was $1500 I'd consider it. I do like the color passthrough and I'd be able to live with the controller battery life with frequent charging. Headset battery life is a bit of an issue however
Thanks a lot!
But me? I bought the pro because I don't have the patience to wait a year and I had the money :P
Carmack said the battery is larger than the Q2's and will probably last longer than the Q2's if you're not using the pro features (aka eye and face tracking).
The controllers last up to 8 hours which is a full work day before you just stick them on the dock to charge for 2 hours :3
The pico 4 pro ofc i wanted eye tracking too
"Zukaburg" is only interested in the Social aspects of VR, he could care less about all the gamers.
I’m with you on your feelings
Awesome! Maybe I’m talking a bit of sense then.
I am still with my old good HTC Vive, the first one. I just didn't think a Quest would give me a better performance. Do you think Pico 4 is a great upgrade now? Is it the time to shelve my Vive?
Yeah, honestly. Wireless, baseless PCVR with pancake lenses for only bout $400-500, i'd say it's worth.
@@akuoumaru7562 What about the performance difference? I am not really into mobile processors so I can't tell if it's better or worse than Vive.

My reason to buy a quest 2 this week vs a pico 4.
It's not available in my country.
Totally agree on your opinion of the Quest Pro but you are underestimating how much better experience the Pico 4 provides
Honestly using the Pico 4 compared to Quest 2 or Index for PC VR is world's apart due to the higher resolution and pancake lenses, I've tried the Quest Pro but it's massively overrated and overpriced, I honestly prefer the Pico 4 for PC gaming
If you have a Quest 2 and mainly play PC VR then selling it to upgrade to a Pico 4 is a no brainer, but if you have a large stand alone library then maybe wait until the community figures out how to side load Quest titles on the Pico 4 pretty sure this won't take too long 😉
Selling a Quest 2 to buy a Pico 4 is well worth it as it provides a massive visual update for a fairly small investment
Have to admit that Pico 4 facial interface is not perfect to but it's ok, and third party ones are already in development
The Quest Pro seems more like a public dev-kit to produce software for the Quest 3. I get my Pico 4 today, but don't and will never own a Meta-headset, so it's my first wireless HMD. I hope it's better than my Vive Cosmos at least😛
How can got make opinions without having either set? Seems non sequitur, but JMO.
Pico 4 pro. Ultimate headset for little waiting
And lose your library of bought Quest games????? Why?
You lose your entire Quest library, and is Virtual Desktop even working on Pico yet?
im waiting for quest 3 to change
Why? Quest2 is enough for most people. I played Q2 every day for a week when I bought it, and then it’s been sitting for 6 months haven’t touched-it.
Im using it on vr porn more than games(not joking)
the pico is also a downgrade when you look at the game store too it just does not match the content on the oculus store, aslo the uk only launch is kinda bs too
Pretty ridiculous that having done what was necessary to gain the greater market share they then spurn that community?
Saving money for Decard...
Well put - 100% ageee
Already playin on the Pico 4. Sold my Q2. Pico 4 is a very nice cheap headset.
nice review
All very valid points. Don't think I'll be getting rid of my Q2 just yet. Thanks for the video.
This guys is hard to please lol
Trolz...
To me, the Quest 2 is still much more solid. I'm hoping to get one for Christmas 🤞🏻
