To All you people bitching about the transmission is this car...its a press vehicle, they get what they are sent, most of the time auto journalists don't get a choice in the type of transmissions they get. The point of this video is to give you an idea of how the car sounds on the open road. If you want a manual buy a manual, if you want an auto, buy the auto. Also, you are no less a car enthusiast if you like automatics! That's why they make both.
You are absolutely correct ! It all comes down to choice and personal preference. An automatic is a better option if you live in a city like New York where even the highways are like ' Parking Lots '
+Danny Williams I definitely agree man. I live in NY and traffic in just an auto can be frustrating, can't imagine what standard would be like on the Cross Bronx Expressway 👎
Owned a Grand National for years. Never heard anyone bitch about it being an automatic. The transmission does not make the car nor the person driving it. Muscle is muscle.
Why are people complaining if its auto or manual, muscle cars used to be automatic back in their time the Muscle Car Era, the purpose is to enjoy the horsepower of those amazing engines.
People always find something to complain about, if it isn’t about the engine (V6 or V8), then it’s about how the exhaust sounds, if it’s not about that, then it’s about if you have an automatic or straight drive.. it never ends..
this has to be one of the best challenger videos. simply because you have no idiot standing there telling you every nuance of the car that ppl who click this video already know. seriously nothing more aggrivating than listening to some guy read the stat page off to the camera. just drive the damn car and shut up right? very very well done. ty for posting.
I have a 2012 Challenger R/T Plus with a six speed manual. most bad ass American muscle I've ever driven out of the 5.0 mustang and SS Camaro in my opinion.
The 392 was introduced back in 2011. It has a 6.4 Liter instead of the 6.1 on the previous SRT8. In Terms of HP and torque, the 392 has 470 hp, 470 Ib-ft. While the previous had 425 hp. The 6.1 Liter has stopped since 2010. That's everything I know, but go read about it. Internet is full of informations.
Manual comes in the R/T and SRT packages... I never understood why people buy these "newer" muscle cars these with V6's let alone automatic transmissions..defeats the purpose of the car. You might as well get a Chevy Impala or Hybrid.. ijs
I mean technically the price shouldn't be a factor because you can still get a V8 stripped down with cloth seats, no sunroof, no NAV, etc. for under 32K, and For 30K you can get an V6 Chevy Impala LT around the same price new. Soo I think people just buy these newer muscle cars just to save they have one and don't know what they're getting themselves into.
***** Go back to the books: $+34K Camaro V8 (1SS) is over $4,000 more than a $30K V8-equipped Challenger (RT). What modern American coupes are you comparing this V8s too? Even the SRT at $40K may be a better deal overall than the $38K 2SS. Though it probably gets down to preferences then, the price/performance/features is fairly matched among competitors at that level.
ionengine well for one thing im not talking about the Camaro, and im not comparing it to any of the modern American coupes. People were saying the reason why they get the V6 Challenger is to save money and I was saying, people can still get an affordable Challenger still with a V8 Hemi stripped down in the low 30K range. I don't know much about the Camaro nor much of a fan of them.
looking forward to trade in the base model challenger..sxt version.. cant wait to get it ..but need to knw the details on the engine spare parts costs..cant find them anywhere
i know this video is old and all but man i still want one real bad and once i get my drivers license and my beater gets beaten too much, this might just be my 2nd car, only 5 more years until i can get a car.. cant wait
I was skeptical of that red interior until I saw it in person.....it's sick and razor sharp. As far as the auto vs manual who cares? If we talking about straight line performance the auto always wins. Even Porsche went to an auto with the GT3.....man I hope I'm driving an srt 8 this year.
Your forgetting that Dodge is also using steel where as many others are using aluminum. Dodge has also stuck to iron block engines in their mid ranged sports cars where as everyone else is on aluminum alloy, finally the average Dodge are now looking into Buick ride comfort, etc. And Dodge seems more than willing to keep it that way.
That about as fast to 60 as the old 70 Cuda I had. Bought an original paint orange 70' Cuda w/hockey stick stripe in 85 for $500. It had the original 383 in it that had spun a main bearing and the torque-flite trans was wasted too. The previous owner changed the gears to a 4.10 posi-trac. I then bought 67' Imperial that had a good stock 440 and AT in it for $325. I put the 440 in the Cuda and it worked great. Zero to 60 times were sub 5-seconds with street slicks. With Goodyear p235 60 15's installed zero to 60 was no better 7+seconds because of the horrendous wheel spin. You could literally spin the tires til they popped. Don't think I even had $1500 in it.
MrCapeCanaveral Cocksmith Smithy Actually lots of reviews and videos show that Automatics on these challengers are more successful and faster than Manuals.
Not a waste at all, you're right it's a cruiser and it knows it. Need more of them actually. I'm a chevy guy so i love camaros. However, how many sports/Gt's/etc actually see their full potential on the streets?
The seats in it weight a ton (heated & cooled). I know what you mean though, however... The new Caddy CTS only weighs 3600lbs and has everything and THEN some that a 4400lb 5-series or E-class has. ATS only weighs 3300 compared to 4000lb C-class etc.
I have a 2012 srt with a 6 spd. Good driving car with plenty of power and handles very good concerning the car's weight. The challenger beats the hell out of the mustang which had to many mechanical issues and problems in general. The other big problem is ford does not stand behind the product and dodge gets right to any issue I have ever had. Would I buy another challenger, the answer is yes. It is a great car.
It's going to be literally 3 weeks of staying up 24 hours a day watching car reviews next fall lol. Trading in the Lancer. Looking at Boss 302, Gt500, Vette Z06, Challenger srt8, ZL1, camaro SS, Evolution X GSR (shitty weather for RWD) , Audi TT RS
BloodstainedSinner He's right I have a RT 2014 and it takes little to nothing to match if not surpass the SRT model. Basically SRT is for looks and a name but RT is always good in my books
+BloodBatteredWings So what's the little to nothing? That's like saying it takes little to nothing to make an sxt just as fast if not faster then the rt. Basically it's not a competition from within the Mopar family my friend. They're all very nice cars respectively in their own category. It's another vision for various types of American muscle cars. One love bruh.
Hey guys from Windingroadmagazine! could you guys drive maybe a 540i e39 please? because i love that car and i have never seen a vid on it! I would love to watch one from you guys! thanks
That interior was just "OK" in 2008, but its pretty dated now in 2013. Good news is the car is getting a MAJOR refresh in 1 year. 8-speed, all new interior, less weight, more power, updated styling etc.
You're like one of the few people i nthe world that think this. When you go on Mustang and Camaro forums and they still praise Chally looks, you know you have a good looking car. Similarly, go on Chally forums, and they praise Mustang speed, as a comparison.
That's why I have spent over $130k on the cars in my garage. To leave them there uninsured with no gas in the tank. That makes sense. You really know me!
The Mustang doesn't cruise well because of its suspension. Every bump makes you feel like you're going to spin out, and even riding in a little rain is scary. That's what I miss most about my Mustang, actually - that's what made it FUN. Challenger for a smooth drive that -feels- as powerful as a Camaro SS (even if it's technically slower) in a car that looks awesome, Mustang for a pure fun, fast drive.
Me and buddy test drove this exact car and it was pretty slow seeing as it weighs 4200lbs. This car is huge tank and needs at least 600+ hp to do anything cause the 470hp thats in it feels like 250hp.
Cars with newer and more advanced technology will cost more to fix. If you want to say that's a negative then that's your problem, the rest of us appreciate them leading the way for new technology in cars. There are technologies in Mercedes from the early 2000s that still aren't in most American cars. Yes, they are expensive, for a reason. Fine materials cost more, technological development costs more, and making cars in Germany costs more. Some are willing to pay more for all of that, like me
The auto allows relaxed shifts. This isn't a track car, hell it's barely a sports car. Its a GT car with a wiff of sportyness to make the casual car buyer feel he owns the streets. The manual helps to give you a more sportscar like control but that's not what this car is about. Its like a diluted C63 Amg. Its not a bad car if you don't want to have to track or race it.
Because expensive cars are expensive to fix? I know a lot of people who have kept their old Mercedes for hundreds of thousands of miles. They do it because they have a genuine passion for outstanding cars and they will pay to maintain them.
ANY car can cruise provided the suspension is complient enough. The Every current Cadillac model can cruise with a ride much more compilent the the Challenger and when push comes to shove, can actually Challenge something as well. It's for that reason that Dodge is going to drop it real soon to make way for a car they never truly made.
for cruise and outlook, challenger vs camaro which is better, personally i wanna both lol, and yet only could afford one, wish you guys give me your ideas ! thx.
I am so with Jian Angelo Agustin im gearing for the pony car club in 2k14 and out of tons of reviews the challenger (my own personal pref) catches my eye better. its the closest in looks to its older version and the freaking space like yes this is essentially a muscle car who needs space just tear up the roads but with the dodge challenger it kills two birds for me its a sporty aggressive muscle car and has the room for my friends who will beg to ride out the night in the city 2012-dodge challenger-srt8
The base curb weight for the S350 is 4474lbs. Not a hard number to find. Obviously it gets heavier with bigger engines. The S class has an excuse to be heavy being a luxury sedan, this piece of bloated metal does not. And every reviewer who has ever driven it has commented that its way overweight.
MirageOfDesert it might be a software update u can get from a dealer. i had a 2012 srt8 and I had the options so I'm not sure why yours does not -sorry :(

Finally someone who doesn't just want to talk shit about the other side nice
So true man so true!!
+Danny Williams I definitely agree man. I live in NY and traffic in just an auto can be frustrating, can't imagine what standard would be like on the Cross Bronx Expressway 👎
Automatics are for girls.
Thanks so much for being a POV channel, especially when there's no talking involved.
the sound of the motor is just like music to my ears I love challengers and chargers
wish i had the money to buy a 6.4L charger or buy a police model edition and give it a 6.4 under the hood
Owned a Grand National for years. Never heard anyone bitch about it being an automatic. The transmission does not make the car nor the person driving it. Muscle is muscle.
Yes, it does. Stop lying to yourself
+Armand Likrama lol, good one!
Stock exhaust sounds terrible. Cut out the resonators though and you have a symphony of horsepower. Speaking from experience.
The show begins at 2:52 ;-)
love that sound :)
Why are people complaining if its auto or manual, muscle cars used to be automatic back in their time the Muscle Car Era, the purpose is to enjoy the horsepower of those amazing engines.
that not true at all ?
Harry Harkins it's very true
People always find something to complain about, if it isn’t about the engine (V6 or V8), then it’s about how the exhaust sounds, if it’s not about that, then it’s about if you have an automatic or straight drive.. it never ends..
Finally a good shoot from the driver's point of view like it should be. dude, you did a lot better then pro car reviewers- good job! - and a sick car
I liked your video, it was just a "test drive". No conversation, just a "test drive".
they only made them in automatic transmissions until 2013 i believe. but it has a tiptronic shifter so you can manually manipulate the gears :)
I don't know if you made this video because of my comment, but I wanna thank you anyway! You're awesome!
this has to be one of the best challenger videos. simply because you have no idiot standing there telling you every nuance of the car that ppl who click this video already know. seriously nothing more aggrivating than listening to some guy read the stat page off to the camera. just drive the damn car and shut up right? very very well done. ty for posting.
I have a 2012 Challenger R/T Plus with a six speed manual. most bad ass American muscle I've ever driven out of the 5.0 mustang and SS Camaro in my opinion.
The go pro camera has terrible stock mic, try install a dedicated microphone inside the car so we can hear the car sound clear
The 392 was introduced back in 2011. It has a 6.4 Liter instead of the 6.1 on the previous SRT8. In Terms of HP and torque, the 392 has 470 hp, 470 Ib-ft.

Aweeesome i actually asked for this video yesterday, thank you so much for this rivew,i love this channel

Best Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 video I watched so far. Only one thing missing if it was black outside and inside my fav. Great video.
i know this video is old and all but man i still want one real bad and once i get my drivers license and my beater gets beaten too much, this might just be my 2nd car, only 5 more years until i can get a car.. cant wait
I love this video because I love challenger and nobody talks
How mature of you. Bravo.
good ride height from the factory. Negative camber and not a lot of fender gap stock... That is a great thing.
I was skeptical of that red interior until I saw it in person.....it's sick and razor sharp. As far as the auto vs manual who cares? If we talking about straight line performance the auto always wins. Even Porsche went to an auto with the GT3.....man I hope I'm driving an srt 8 this year.
Awesome interior!
Will be buying this once I finish my studies :)
Some people like the auto... They came in autos back in the day too... I have mine in auto with no regrets
why would you speed up during cornering but slow down on the highway?
A chick is driving that is how they drive haha
Wu Richard to test the handling
That's the last car I would be driving fast around corners 😂
Beautiful car and great vid, this car is rather quiet unless you get on the gas
Your forgetting that Dodge is also using steel where as many others are using aluminum. Dodge has also stuck to iron block engines in their mid ranged sports cars where as everyone else is on aluminum alloy, finally the average Dodge are now looking into Buick ride comfort, etc. And Dodge seems more than willing to keep it that way.
Driving an dodge and chill what do you think?
Hey, I'm wondering what camera and lenses you use? it looks amazing. This is my dream car right here. Great vid.
I'd go with manual all day. There's nothing like being able to control the power delivery by yourself.
My dream car!
This would look better all black with the red racing stripes but the white looks good too.
Price?
Great videos ! best channel !

man that's nice! but are you talking about the HEMI CUDA? cuz it's a dream car for me:P
Love my Challenger! Couldn't imagine suffering with an automatic tho.
I can't imagine driving a manual. So to each his own.
MrCapeCanaveral Cocksmith Smithy Actually lots of reviews and videos show that Automatics on these challengers are more successful and faster than Manuals.
uzeeej
I could care less about faster, I like shifting it.
Not sure what you mean by "successful" as an automatic is more prone to failure.
@deetherookie the 13 has a different dash, wheels, manual transmission, biffer infotainment screen, different steering wheel.
Not a waste at all, you're right it's a cruiser and it knows it. Need more of them actually. I'm a chevy guy so i love camaros. However, how many sports/Gt's/etc actually see their full potential on the streets?

I know most of these roads all too well.... My 04 cobra loved the on ramp around 8 minutes 30 seconds
Really love your videos, can you do a review on ferrari 458 italia
Could you guys play music through the system so we can test the sound of the speakers as well. Great Stuff!
Nice videos, I appreciate them. May I ask what camera you use?
Nice. Surprising how much of the interior is shared with the 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Here 8 years later, went to test drive a 2013 Jeep Liberty, can’t unsee it now
That's a nice car. Sounds awesome in stock form too, which is pretty unusual these days.
I have a 2012 srt with a 6 spd. Good driving car with plenty of power and handles very good concerning the car's weight. do a pov test drive of the new 2014 jeep grand cherokee srt8
Beautiful car and great video.
@sti04702 yes, the srt8 actually comes standard with manual transmission. You can buy an automatic for 1000 or so more $
It's going to be literally 3 weeks of staying up 24 hours a day watching car reviews next fall lol. Trading in the Lancer. Looking at Boss 302, Gt500, Vette Z06, Challenger srt8, ZL1, camaro SS, Evolution X GSR (shitty weather for RWD) , Audi TT RS
dude camaros are sweet but they have the worst visibility,so many blind spots
Tim Sierra thats what i hear on all the reviews and from anyone who drove one. the blind spots for some reason they did that terribly.
Yea I was crazy about getting a camaro but then I realized that its hard to see through the front and back
BloodstainedSinner He's right I have a RT 2014 and it takes little to nothing to match if not surpass the SRT model. Basically SRT is for looks and a name but RT is always good in my books

Is it just me or does the clock of the car say "kill"?
Whats the difference between the SRT8-392 and the standard challenger srt8?
Amazing quality! sub'ed

nope they come manual as well....you just have to order it tho....not alot of dealers carry manual :(
6:43 co on odpierdala ?
this auto looks like it shifts really fast, is it dual clutch? 5:13
Muscle cars are big and comfortable. Automatics make the driving experience comfortable.
I thought that the dodge challenger srt8 came with the manual transmission only?

the best modern muscle car.
Really hear the road through the tires
@doncarson I hear you loud and clear. I've had my share of problems from Chrysler and yet im drawn to this car.

No manual/stick shift? :(
Test Audi A3 Plis!
These things are waaayyy too common down where I live, TX. You'll see about 2-3 everyday on your commute.
I was really hoping for a 6 spd on this one.
Both transmissions have their pros and cons
that the video quality?!
for cruise and outlook, challenger vs camaro which is better, personally i wanna both lol, and yet only could afford one, wish you guys give me your ideas ! thx.
I am so with Jian Angelo Agustin im gearing for the pony car club in 2k14 and out of tons of reviews the challenger (my own personal pref) catches my eye better. its the closest in looks to its older version and the freaking space like yes this is essentially a muscle car who needs space just tear up the roads but with the dodge challenger it kills two birds for me its a sporty aggressive muscle car and has the room for my friends who will beg to ride out the night in the city 2012-dodge challenger-srt8
my dream car

its just perspective, depends on what you wanna do with your car.
Powerful John Cooper.
I didn't realize the 2013 SRT came with an auto option! Give me a 6speed any day!
Asphalt 8 Airborne:
Renamed As SRT 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 It Was Added In The Great Wall Update As a Mid Class C Car
It has paddle shifters and Autostick ..
Why is this thing not Manuel?
God I love this car !
Nice car,respect from Russia
I wouldn't consider freeways, byways and interstates "winding roads." Other than that, good video.
Makes Me Value My Sxt Plus.
@BR-P-2001 // they are nice cars
Paddles clutch bro its taking over the world =( a mucle car will never be the same with a Stick Shift
The ATS weighs 3340-3450lbs and the C-Class weighs 3450-3580lbs. The CTS weighs 3800lbs and the E-Class weighs 4000lbs. Nice try though.
How can I accesses performance futures on my challenger srt8 2013 menue, I can't find it
you nav it through the steering wheel, use the up down arrows i believe on the left side of the wheel until you see performance options
+GameCaptain what if I don't have that options, how can I added ?
MirageOfDesert is yours an SRT8? or an R/T?
+GameCaptain Challenger SRT8 2013
MirageOfDesert it might be a software update u can get from a dealer. i had a 2012 srt8 and I had the options so I'm not sure why yours does not -sorry :(
